  1. Oops, my bad. Completely forgot. I'm at work at the moment and will put a pic up ASAP when I get home. Thanks for the reminder.
  2. I have my unfired (except by factory for function test) basic ACR in FDE up for sale. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=263796658. Please click the link for all details, and feel free to ask any q's you may have. What I have it listed for is my rock bottom price....which is hundreds of dollars less than others are asking for. If someone is serious about buying it but would need a week or two to get necessary funds, I'd be willing to hold it for him/her and take down off other sites it's listed. Thanks for looking. As a bonus, if anyone here buys it I'll cover shipping.
  3. No problemo. Sign up for their e-mail alerts that way you can get the heads up like I do :). But I shall keep posting any sales/deals that I find or am sent.
  4. I understand what yer saying PF, and I tend to agree. It'd just be nice if not only SIG, but other makers, would at least give a rough timeframe as to a release date, even if a rough rough date.
  5. At www.aimsurplus.com to be exact. Prvi Partizan 175gr HP match ammo starting at $11.95/box ($1 cheaper than the 168gr match!): http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=AP308FMJ175 Prvi Partizan 165gr PSP BT for $9.95/bx! http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=AP308PSP165&name=Prvi+Partizan+PPU+.308+PSP+BT+165grn+20rd+Box&groupid=26 Both are brass cased and reloadable. My uncle had very good results with the 175gr match out of his bull barrel (one of the "tactical" model) Remmy 700 and I've had very impressive results with Prvi's 75gr match ammo out of my 1/9 twist LW DPMS.
  6. Apologies if this has already been posted ;D http://www.onlylongrange.com/badnews.asp
  7. I was interested in the 716 myself when they first released it at SHOT Show 2010, when it was first designed to take Armalite type mags. Became much more interested when they redesigned it to take PMags/DPMS/SR-25 mags, but them taking so long to get it to market is a bit irksome. I totally understand them wanting to make sure everything is good to go with it before release, but c'mon SIG throw the buying public a bone! Unfortunately I've been reading/hearing some QC issues with some of their other products of late and think I'll pass on it for the moment....unless they've gotten their *stuff* back in order :D.
  8. There are indeed. I looked into CMMG's lower (which requires a small bit of milling on the upper), but I didn't want to mess with getting an upper milled, however slight, plus it wouldn't hold bolt open after last shot (no different than ptr-91). True about the surplus magazines, especially the aluminum ones I got...never did try any steel mags. Definitely a luck of the draw, but I usually lucked out and only had to toss one or two out of a buy of 50. It's just really nice paying $2 for a 20 round magazine ;D. I almost went for RRA LAR-308, but I've decided to stick with the DPMS/SR-25 platform of rifles due to more parts inter-changability. Plus, being able to get PMags for them didn't hurt either, lol.
  9. Definitely true no two rifles are alike. I got my DPMS ap4 (I think that's the model, lw barrel) in 2007. I followed the manual and did the break in with 200 rounds of brass (Remmy UMC 55gr fmj). After that it's been a majority of steel, mostly wolf with some brown bear thrown in......not a single issue. IMO regarding the voiding of the warranty if you use steel cased in their rifles: if they don't feel their rifle is able to stand up to steel cases, then maybe I should sell it for a rifle that can. Unless I'm mistaken extractor steel should be stronger than shell casing steel....and as mentioned before, if steel is crap then why is Hornady of all ammo companies now offering steel ammo? And "match" no less. The range I'm a member of has a small 3-gun shoot every month from about march through oct/nov, and I've run with wolf/BB every time without issue (granted, not a high round count because space limitations). I've also heard good things about silver bear, but again YMMV. Here's a good vid regarding the issue of steel ammo: http://youtu.be/P5ZB3UfG960
  10. I'm a bit of a bookworm myself, starting with all the gun magazines I subscribe to (Gun Tests, S.W.A.T. Magazine, Guns Magazine, Shooting Illustrated, American Hunter, Soldier of Fortune Magazine). For books I dig sci-fi/fantasy (Star Wars, Terry Goodkind, Terry Brooks) and American history/Constitution, military history (usually biographies/autobiographies like Lone Survivor and House to House), and political/current events. I'm slowly getting into reloading and hunt as much as possible (which isn't much)....was able to fill both my deer tags this year! Play the occasional video/computer game and watch most of the shooting shows on outdoor channel, sportsman channel and vs. channel.
  11. "And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever." --Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, Query 18, 1781 "Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, cause it's gonna be empty." -Clint Smith "It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favors." --George Washington, Thanksgiving Proclamation, 1789 "It is the duty of parents to maintain their children decently, and according to their circumstances; to protect them according to the dictates of prudence; and to educate them according to the suggestions of a judicious and zealous regard for their usefulness, their respectability and happiness." --James Wilson, Lectures on Law, 1791 "The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. If 'Thou shalt not covet' and 'Thou shalt not steal' were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free." --John Adams, 1787 "[D]emocracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; and have, in general, been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths." --James Madison, Federalist No. 10, 1787
  12. New member to the board from IL here. I'm a couple hours south of you guys; McLean Co. Been to the ASC a couple times for CMP clinics...how I got my first taste of the awesomeness that is the M-1 Garand and also where I shot an ar-15 for the first time. And I did get my very own M-1 from CMP not too long after :D.
  13. Hello one and all. DustinIL here. Not too difficult to tell where I'm from. FYI it's also same name I use on gunbroker. I'm trying to narrow down my choices for a .308 AR, which will be replacing a ptr-91 I sold, hence I need a replacement ;D. Nothing was wrong with the ptr-91, I just decided to get a .308 with same manual of arms as my ar-15. Plus ergos are a much better on AR. Only downside is prices of mags, but I guess you gotta give and take right? ;D I look forward to being schooled on the world of AR-10 style rifles and the ups and downs of each.
  14. Hello. Just signed up literally 5 mins ago. Found this place like many others did by searching for info on .308 ARs I'm looking into.
