I purchased a RRA LAR 8 last summer. And I am very proud of it. I got it for hog hunting primarily and poking holes in paper. I probably have about 100 rounds through it. Shoots good and likes either 168 gr fed match stuff...or the 165 fed game getter even a little better. I secured 600rds of the 168 fed match. I don't thing it's a good hunting round for hogs. But thought it would provide good practice rounds and brass for reloading. ( then I read the disclaimer of warranty with reload use). So here is my concern. I have been told by a handful of people ...shop owners and law enforcement people that the .308 is not a good round for the ar style platform. That it tears itself apart from the recoil. I have heard from as little as 600 to 1000 rounds to expect things to start failing. I have been told that the barrel is just to much to be hanging off from an aluminum reciever . And that no matter who makes them that they just are not a long lived rifle. And that they need to be super cleaned and well maintained to last a little longer. The people who have told me this have lots of shooting experience. And it concerns me. That is why I am here seeking information. Thank you all in advance for your opinions. Drop

I have the thermold polymer mags..one works well the other needs a little work. Gonna wait this thing out before I try to get any more metal mags.

Well... I took the old girl down to Texas on a wild hog hunt. I used the 165 http. And Anchored one in its. Tracks at 30 yds. Yeah I know 30yds. She dropped right there. Hit the back the left front shoulder. Clear through both shoulders and took out both lungs..likes I said she dropped in her tracks... Big old sow...weighed 240lbs. Love that federal ammo <thumbsup>

Just got 3 boxes of 165 of the BTSP. specs and the tech at Sierra say they shoot very close to eachother. Taking it on a Hog Hunt in Texas in about 3 weeks. was concerned about expansion on the hollow points. Called Sierra and the tech told me they were never designed for hunting applications. Knew that but bought 600 anyway. Tech said they had reports of everything from fantastic to dismal failures with the HP hunting. I know shot placement is crucial and always has been in my book. So off to the range next weekend to finish dialing it in. Went to the country with it Thursday night to try out my new Varmint light.. VRL 1.... and a Leupold 4x12 firedot <thumbsup> <thumbsup> <thumbsup> I could make out the treeline at 200 yds... Would not hesitate to take a shot on a yote at 100 yds. I think even 150 would be acceptable ... hear some say 200 is doable. But not sure yet for myself. Thinking If I may ...go to the range during Christmas break at night ... and try some shots at 50...100... and maybe 200 yds...This would tell the tale Drop

Who can tell me what and where to get for magazines for my 308. I have a couple 20 rd polymer ones that seem to work good. I have a 5rd and a 3rd ordered that are both metal.That should cover most hunting laws. But I would like to get a couple 10rd mags. I just like the way they fit and the balance. No need at this time to add any unnecessary weight. By the time I get a light and other extras its getting a little chubby <dontknow> Thanks all Drop

<thumbsup> Well these seem to be the ticket... I shot 6 groups .. all 3/4 inch and a little under for a couple @ 100 yds. 1 group of 13/8 @ 200 yds. Got 11 boxes Sat.. and backordered 20 more for $20 a box on sale. sale ended the 28th but they honored the price ;D me be cheezin ;D

Got a hundred on hold 2.5 hours away till I can get to them and I have 400more on back order.... Sure do hope these work out. If not just have to sell them imguess <lmao>

Well it didn't like the American eagle or the Winchester 150grn ...both. So after being advised I took a chance on federal gold match 168gr smkbthp.... Hope this works. A few ppl say this is the industry standard for testing accuracy. Hope so. I have 5boxes on hold till I can go get them....and 10ordered mail order. Ahe American eagle was better than the Winchester...about 2inches at 100yds. The Winchester was closer to 3inches at 100yds. Gotta drive 5hrs round trip to go get 5boxes on sat...dial this thing in for a early jan hog hunt. Wish me luck. I am sure this ammo will shoot. Might even order a couple hundred more rounds... Drop

Ok Back from Alaska and setting up my predator Hp. What are you guys finding off the shelf for accuracy? I hav a handfull of assorted ammo. But I am sure there is one that stands above for most. And what kind of groups are you getting at 100---200---300---yds? got the scope( Leupold 3.5 X 10 VXIII) mounted up the other night . Have to boresite it yet . Gonna try to get it out to the range next weekend for a few rounds to settle it in. Thanks Drop

Probably right on the craziness letting up. Election years seem to affect these things. I live in illinois...get the idea. I just got real lucky and ran into these deals... Probably never happen again. A year ago I never would have given an ar a second look. Just wasnt my cup of tea.... then I took a second look at the accuracy ppl were getting right out of the box. Nope no reloads.. less than 75 rounds through it. accuracy was outstanding. but like I said id jammed way to much. Plus the upper and lower fit was so loose you could hear it rattle when you shook it. It had a good 32nd of an inch slop in it... Not saying anything bad about the product.. I just wasnt happy with it after I got it. Drop

only kid is now 30.... But I got a grandaughter who is 8 and wants to go hunting this fall. I have been done buying guns a few times before.. But I have bought 7 in the last 10 months. And only got rid of 2. Running out of SAFE space. Funny thing is that I never had any need for "black rifles" until I started seeing the accuracy they are getting with them. My First one was the LR308. Accuracy was there right from the git go. Just couldnt bring myself to understand why I had to put 500+ rounds through it to assure it would function right everytime. and when you shook it it clunked and movet over a 16th of an inch. And again not gonna fix an 1000 dollar gun with a 4.99 accuwedge. shoulda been right from the git go. I just didnt know what to look for when I bought it. It is gone now. Since I got my first RRA I see no need to look elsewhere. My .556 varmint gun shoots 1" groups at 200 yds... not every time but often enough I can claim it will. so now I have an Elite operator in 556 and a Predator HP in 308.. and my kid has an Elite operator also... An Im gonna make him pay me back...lol <munch> <thumbsup> Up until this year I have been pretty old school in my firearms. Now I seem be more open minded. just called a local dealer.. he an Operator elite in 556 on the rack... I know this is a .308 board... Going to pick the 556 wed. My son wanted one really bad. Thought as hard as RRA's are to get right now and it is only going to get worse in my opinion... But Now I am done.. got to quit buying these dern things. :cookoo:

I bought a dpms lr308... not happy with it..jammed every 5 or less rounds just bought the wrong gun... Bought a RRA 556 24" varmint gun... found out all the things my dpms wasnt.tried to sell the dpms... for 6 months.. took it out of the shop went to another where they would take it in trade.. ordered the LAR .308 predator hp... said he had some on order already so probably 2 more months... then the rush came through. so went in to shop where the dpms was up for sale... THERE IN FRONT OF ME WAS A LAR .308 PREDATOR HP I was already thinking about buying a nea operator 2 elite. Beat feet over to my other dealer... he had the .556 operator elite in stock. Gave me the same allowance trade in. I took the 556 operator.. called the " other" dealer up .. told him I would be there in an hour to take the predator hp. Fell in it and came out smelling like a rose 2 Rock Rivers in 30 min. .... Convinc me this wasnt meant to be. got to take the 556 home then.. and get to pick up the .308 monday night. As far as rock and the wait.. I havent had to really wait 9 3 weeks for my varmint gun in march). But even if I had to I would. every dealer I have asked said RRA is the top of their customers request. I am tickeled pink with the quality and performance of my RRA's. Good luck to you guys. I have noticet that the fit on my LR308 isnt tight at the rear of the upperwhere it pins to the lower. You can actually move it up and down to the point where you can hear a little clunk..and some side motion. Never knew to look for this. Front pin is tight but the back one sure isnt. it hasnt had 100 rounds through it. is this common? Thanks Drop

Searched DPMS Panther LR 308 on Yahoo... seen this place and hovered for a few and then posted..the addiction was easy from there... lol LR308 already a new Timney scope base leupold scope and MagPul stock on order...luvin it so far ;D drop

Ive been to the range twice...first time she jammed a lot. but i only loaded a few in the mag at a time.old rem umc stuff. back again yesterday loaded up 10 of the same..perfect. then 10 american eagle..jam's..then ww 150gr power point...jamed... <dontknow> Drop

Went to the range today just to get it on paper... Called a local gun shop to ask how much for Boresighting..he said $20 bucks :o Took a 4ft square of cardboard with me instead. first shot was 18" low and 8" to the right..took another just to make sure..adjusted the scope up ant right...oopslol doot a shot and then readjusted 12" left...3 shots in 1.5"... Not to bad for some cheap 15 year old ammo.... moved out to 100 yds and shot 7 more...3" group take one out and it was closer to 2". However I did get several malfunctions. Jams if you will. I gave it a shot of clp before I went out. It is kicking the brass out so hard it is going behind me and hitting the reciever as it passes. Making a bress mark. Gonna tru some other ammo in a couple days. Also I didnt load the mag full just 5 one time and 7 another . not really concerned yet as this was Rem ..umc ammo from way back...So next plan is a little wetter oil and try some other ammo. I have American eagle, Winchester also. No recoil..and fun to shoot...will keep yall posted Drop
