Hi All, This may have been hashed and re-hashed and I've missed it, but...... I've built an AR308 and a AR243 that shoot great. Wondering if anyone has done a larger caliber (similar to the .450 Bushmaster for the AR15 frame on the larger frame weapon)? Thanks, M

Hi All, just curious to get some input. i've built a 308 and 243 with SR Gold triggers, and am now building a couple 223's. will ultimately get the AR Gold for one or both, but in the mean time, am considering installing the standard AR10 trigger assembly (from Armalite or DPMS 308 lower parts kit). Armalite confirms that they use the same one in AR10 and M15. any reason for not doing this? thanks, mark

just an upadte: was able to shoot the .243 last weekend. resetting the gas block and enlarging the barrel gas port did the trick. a couple of adjustments on gas block and it ejected shells and locked open on empty. next step will be getting new scope. any recommendations for coyote hunting out to 300-400 yds?

glad to be of help, bowhunter :) I can tell you that right now, .243 ammo is MUCH easier to come by than .223/5.56 or .308. by searching around, i can still find good deals on various bullets for reloading (except .223). good luck on getting parts!

thanks for the suggestions. i ended up hand-turning the bit and was easy to tell when i broke thru. this weekend should tell whether these two things resolve my problems.

took gas block off last night. it appears that the hole in gas block did not match up exactly with barrel hole--have discoloration on both gas block and barrel next to gas port holes. am trying to post some pics. will try to center better and try again this weekend. also tried to find a #45 (.082") drill bit, but best could come up with was a 5/64 (.078125") and wouldn't you know it, the barrel gas port hole is smaller than that. seems like i will have to re-drill as well.

barrel is a Lothar Walther. after I get a #45, I can check size to see if under/over-sized. I'll also check the chamber. chamber didn't like remington as they stuck, whereas winchester manually ejected fine. don't have local place to shoot, but can check for bolt movement next weekend. Hi All, I appreciate all of the help throughout my AR308 build, which is now an awesome shooter. My 2nd build is very similar, but .243 caliber/20" SS LW heavy barrel. Using same gas block (JP low profile, adj) and rifle length gas tube, gun won't eject spent case. I've adjusted the gas up and down without any luck. Beginning to wonder if the gas port hole in barrel might be too small. Hoping someone knows what diameter should be, and any other ideas for me to check out. Thanks, Mark

hmmm, i thought a gas block was a gas block as long as diameter was correct. i've also seen a lot of Armalite SASS barrels talked about.

Hi All, Hoping someone can clear up a question I have about barrels. I've seen posts here that mention SASS barrels, while other posts just simply say barrels. Is there anything special about one designated as SASS? If so, do they require anything different than a regular barrel (ie gas block, gas tube)? Many thanks, Mark

okay. success. talked with a gunsmith who said there was too little (.0015) for him to mess with. suggested that I take some emery cloth and polish it down to what I needed. so, a little elbow grease one evening and ouila! slid in just like it was supposed to.

Hi all, Wanted to see if anyone has had the same experience and to get some suggestions. Got a .243 LW heavy barrel and during assembly find out that the last 2" (approx) of the barrel is too thick to allow the MA-TEN nut to slide down to engage the threads on the receiver. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I checked with American Trigger about the AR-Gold and they recommend NOT to treat hammer with Nib. Here's the response: Are you talking about doing this to the hammer, or that the hammer will come into contact with a treated bolt carrier? If you are messing with the hammer, it's S7 @ R58. You have to ask the coating folks if their process will compromise the heat treat. If it's just the bolt carrier, no problem.
