  1. Thanks for all the advice on this. I got to see the folding A2 sight from A.R.M.S. and was very impressed. The quality is very good. I think I will go with that for the front sight.
  2. Greased the lugs. Saturated the bolt with oil. No improvement. Called ArmaLite, explained my problem to a tech., and was told that they would send out a new charging handle ASAP. Apparrantly they have some experience with this particular problem to diagnose it that quickly. I don't see how the handle could cause this, but I'm not the AR tech. Maybe someone here could enlighten me. I am very impressed with ArmaLite. How many companies can one call into anymore, get a real, knowledgeable person on the phone, and have parts shipped to fix the problem? I really like "Made in America"! Nice job ArmaLite.
  3. Got it. Looks great. Have now replaced all the green furniture with black Magpul stuff. I tried the oil. Actually dis-assembled the BCG and oiled everything. After reassembling everything, the charging handle pulled easily for the first few pulls, and then became tight again. So I am left to believe that this pass with some break in, Right? Would grease on the lugs help?
  4. BCG, I think that the rotating part of the bolt is what is tight, The handle is smooth when the bolt is locked open.
  5. Brand new AR-10 carbine with a curious problem. Starting with the bolt closed and in battery. The action cannot be opened by simply pulling the charging handle. I must bump the stock sharply first to unlock the bolt before the charging handle can retract the BCG. Is this normal in a brand new AR-10? Does this indicate a problem? Does something need adjustment? Will break-in eventually work this out? When firing live rounds, the gun cycles perfectly. What have others experienced?
  6. Looking for a OEM Colt slide stop for my '70 series 1911A1 in bright blue finish.
  7. Maybe so. I may have wrongly assumed that the detachable carry handle would be the same height as the carry handle on the A2, so would line-up with the A2 front site when properly mounted on the barrel. Prob. a good idea to check with the mfg. on this. I really like Robocops first suggestion (clamp-on). Looks right. So back to my first question, would the barrel be marred from the removed gas block?
  8. Hmmm.... Drilling holes in the bottom of the barrel doesn't sound like anything I want even a competent local gunsmith to do. IMHO that is a factory only job. Can anyone else verify if these holes are not already pre-placed when the barrels are made? I wonder if all the barrels are made the same so the company doesn't have to pick a specific sight for the barrel produced. An economy of scale thing.
  9. Just picked-up my new AR-10 A4CF with the rail gas block and flat-top reciever. I would like to replace the gas block with a A2 front sight. Is this difficult to do? Will the finish on the barrel show marks where the gas block was attached? I may want to change back later on if I decide to attach a scope, but for now I just want the iron sites and the gun to look like the infantry model. I plan on adding the detachable carry handle for my rear site, and preferr the look of the A2 front over the clamp-on A2 style.
  10. LaRue would be very nice, but I'd like to ease into this, not jump in over my head price wise. It seems to me that ArmaLite makes a very decent gun for the money.
  11. I'm not sure the barrel was measured correctly. I called ArmaLite today with the serial number, and they searched it for me. I found out the build specs. on this gun, which stated the gun left the factory with a 16in barrel and the tactical trigger, not the NM as the dealer had stated. I'm thinking that the dealer may not be that knowledgable about this gun. It comes NIB with all papers and accessories so I went back and picked it up. I hated to pass this one up as rare as these are to find. So how is the proper way to measure the barrel?
  12. Hi, new to the AR format. I have decided that I want a AR style .308 for hogs and tactical shooting. I have been researching brands and models and have decided that an Armalite A10A4 carbine will work for me. I even actually found one at a local shop NIB at a reasonable price. The problem is the gun has a 18 in. barrel, and is called a carbine, but I cannot find a 18" carbine on ArmaLites website. I assume that it has the mid-length gas system (Maybe all their carbines are set-up this way?). I believe the gun also has a national match trigger so if I went by ArmaLites other model designations this should be denoted as a 10A4CNF except for the barrel length. The store selling the gun doesn't seem to be able to give me any more on the model number than A10A4, so I cant tell any more about it. Any ideas from site members would be helpful, as well as input on Armalite in general.
