  1. Anybody with an LAR-8 tried the Magpul PRS stock? Wonder if there will be any problems using it with that top buffer screw needing to breathe. I know I need to cut abotu 1/4" out of the bottom of the cheek peice but I would hate to get a bad cycle due to that top screw. Thanks for any assist!
  2. it's for an LAR-8. maybe i will just go get some kids glow in the dark paint and paint my sights, then if i need to shoot in the dark i can just shine a flashlight on them for a few seconds and fire away...<laughs> :cookoo:
  3. what to do though - yea maybe one would be the lesser of the two evils but nobody can convince me that there are very many up there in the congress, house or senate that have the interests of common man in mind - let alone the presidential administration...only time will tell. <dontknow> whoever makes prez next needs to make getting our jobs back from overseas a top priority though-without jobs the American people have no purchasing power - which is the life blood of the free enterprise system we operate in. No jobs = no money, thats less mortgages /home sales, car sales and it trickles out from there...we are hurting bad right now and 90% of our goods come from freakin China...
  4. yup - just need to find a way to get my hands on some of that paint and a kit- it is only dangerous if injested in quantity.
  5. Are tritium sights really worth it? And an even more interesting question - is it possible to order your own tritium bars for self installation? looked around and found this site - sent them a message - worth a shot just for shits and giggles... http://www.perkinelmer.com/products/consumables-accessories/default.xhtml
  6. I am in the USAF and I definitely don't think our situation is funny- just being silly with the emocons... Our country has been going downhill for 20 years now and it seems to be getting worse and worse regardless of if it was a D or R in charge. And over that 20 yrs some very stupid decisions have been made - we need some very serious fixings up top....and soon.
  7. I think we are in big troubel no matter who wins <lmao> I am moving someplace else as soon as I get our of the military <dontknow>...

    Hello

Hey all, Just seen the intro section - I guess skipped this area and went straight to posting Q's haha... Name is Chad- I hail from Kentucky originally but since joining the USAF I have been all over - spent 5 years overseas and back in Kansas now - temporarily anyways...hope to get back OCONUS soon! Despite my years of service I am still learning about weapons. Just got my hands on a new LAR-8 by Rock River Arms...working to mod it up a little now and hopefully get a chance to shoot it soon. I do a little hunting, deer, pigs, rabbits, quail, and squirrel (yes squirrel) I am from KY and they taste great so that makes it OK haha... I am a bit of a prepper too - realistically anyways - I don't count on any civil war or zombie apocolypse anytime soon but an old Marine buddy of mine once told me - better have and not need than need and not have - so I prepare! And yes i am still running for president in the 2020's! Your welcome!
  11. <thumbsup> just a few more reasons to vote for ME in the 2020's! 8)
  12. agree - illegal is illegal plain and simple but the vast majority are La Mexicana. Downside to deportation is the lack of workers in some states that will do the agricultural or otherwise dirty jobs that most Americans are not willing or skilled to do- thats why I say amnesty to a small number for work permits and ability to file legally. That does not include the ones with gang tatoos all over selling drugs to highschool kids... >:(
  13. well if my straight edge is accurate- the top of the gas block rail is about 1/8 lower than the top of the receiver rail. I used four different edges - glass desktop, door jamb, door edge and kitchen counter (turned the rifle upside down). Each one measured 1/8...primitave but seemingly accurate. Quesiton now is - does that 1/8 warrant the use of the Troy gas block sights...maybe i should just go shoot the thing and quit being weird eh?
  14. No I am not - but it seems to be - if there is a difference at all I don't know how to gauge it and it couldnt be more than 1/4 inch (which i know is a lot)....do I need to put it on a vice and then slap a level on a the rail or something?
  15. honestly I didn't even bother watching. Every 4 years we are spoon fed what we want to hear with little to none of the follow up action we need as a country. I don't care if they are Dem,Rep,Ind or Tea party anymore - we need serious people doing real things up there to improve our economy and protect our borders. The list of what we need goes on and on but here are some things I think we need turned around regardless of who takes office next... #1 we need our jobs back from China/india and reduced trade with China-without that the American people have no purchasing power which drives our free enterprise system - no money = no mortgage payments, car sales etc...we need our jobs back from overseas plain and simple! #2 we need to drastically improve our school systems to not just get back on par but far exceed educational standards of other countries - without this our future is bleak. #3 we need to control our borders immediately and deport illegal aliens from this country while offering temporary amnesty for filing legal status to a very small minority. Then send Mexico a bill for the deportations. #4 we need to stop or reduce our foreign monetary aid to countries that are hostile to America - specifically Pakistan who we have funneled more than 18billion in the past 15 years. #5 we need to cut funding for multigenerational welfare recipients and force stops to substance usage for all welfare recipients - including cigs, alchohol or any other drugs. We also need to put welfare on a vouchered system where individuals must support their claims for required costs. This would stop them from going out and buying $100 shoes with their checks. #6 we need to kill corporate tax loopholes #7 we need to kill or reduce jobless benefit claims to those making more than $250k per year #8 we really do need a gov funded healthcare system that mimics some of the other countries like Canada, England, Sweden, Finland etc...but along with national healthcare initiatives - to get our people healthy again...our own unhealthy people is our greatest health cost burden. #9 we need to cut funding for prison system amenities, like work out gyms, basketball courts or anything else that is not jumpsuits, bars and 4 walls. Food served should be extremely minimal for basic substinence. Additionaly prisoners should be put back on chain gangs and forced to do public works projects, clean streets etc. and pay them for their labor @ $5 per day. #10 We need to kill wasteful programs and step up green energy initiatives to reduce our dependancy on foreign oil. That's all it's about right now. Helps global warming (maybe), creates jobs(maybe), reduces fuel costs(maybe)- whatever! we need to cut our foreign oil/energy imports and become self sufficient! #11 We need to put congress on a different pay system - maybe something comparible to the military pay/benefits system and find a way to hold them accountable for their work hours, vacations and expenditures. At the same time we need to review the way they are accepted into office and introduce an education, requirements and skill testing, board that reviews each senate, house and congressional member before they can take office. because the rats up there now are milking/abusing their positions. #12 last but not least we need to stop the infringment of our 2nd amendment rights! Plain and simple! Yes - I will run for president! - your welcome!
  16. yep thats the one - what a beauty! <lmao>

  18. ok here comes a newbie question- don't laugh too hard. :cookoo: I bought some troy sights - and one says it is for the gas block. However after mounting them it seems my front sight is way higher than my rear sight. Won't that throw off my sight angle?? Seems odd to me - I think i need to go back and buy the regular front sight - seems my receiver rail and gas block rail are the same height. (by the way I have an LAR-8 A4 20" standard flattop with the railed gas block) Any opinions or jabs here?
  19. @ Shepp "i was looking at breaks also, but they kinda ugly" Did you check out that link I posted in the original message? They makes some pretty nice/nice looking breaks but they are expensive. However, they also boast 50% recoil reduction...that combined with a buffer upgrade would possibly make my .308 like shooting a 5.56 or smaller...I am just worried about feed issues...
  20. "I'd look at adding weight to the recoil system, to manage recoil. Couple ways to go about that." You mean the hydro buffer tube or did you have something else in mind?
  21. Anybody know a good muzzlebrake/flash suppressor combo for the LAR-8? This one from Grizzly is nice - but has a not so nice price... http://shop.grizzlygunworks.com/product.sc;jsessionid=904FD8F60F99CF076735DFC0C1E3F2F6.qscstrfrnt05?productId=41&categoryId=1 Also, curious if anybody makes the hydraulic buffer tube for LAR-8 like the brownell AR-RESTOR (http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=22351/Product/AR-RESTOR-trade-) Finally would the combination of the two cause problems with firing/accuracy?
  22. yep, from what I have gathered the LAR-8 has about 3/8 more charging handle to pull back (I think). Not a show stopper for me really - I love that stock so I will just raise it to where I need and cut out a space for the handle.
  23. thanks! so glad I found this site- yall are helpful- much appreciated because I have tons of crazy questions....
  24. Is it safe to dremmel down the Magpul precision rifle stock in order to accomodate the LAR-8 charging handle? Anybody tried this with success? OR Is there an equivalent stock out there that fits the LAR-8...i really need to get rid of this Standard A4 stock. Thanks for the help!
  25. Ho, Brand new shooter here and decided on urchasing the LAR-8 .308 by Rock River Arms. Question though...when i went to clean it - it seemed liek the rifle had been shot many times before...it was very dirty and the spent brass deflector had noticable markings on it (after I oiled it). There was also a few very minor scratches in random areas and the firing pin had a very small area near the back that looked singed..even afer cleaning. So - the question is...is that normal? I figure it is from test firing maybe?
