This set is sold pending funds.

Folks, I keep cleaning out the cupboards and discovering more and more neat stuff. This is an A.R.M.S. 71 front and rear sight set that I bought back in 2010 and stuffed into a drawer and never used. As you can see this set comes in the original box, with the original little ziplock bags they were in. Never mounted on a rifle. They've only been taken out of the package to drool over.http://www.armsmounts.com/default.asp?mode=71l $75.00 shipped via Priority mail with tracking. I accept USPS money order or PayPal plus fees. 1st "I'll take 'em" gets 'em, followed up with a timely PM. And thanks for looking!

Thanks for all the kind words folks. Hope to have some more work done on it in a couple of weeks and have it looking a bit more Cuban.

Another welcome from Georgia. If Randall or Marvin are too busy you might want to contact John Thomas at Retro Arms Works. He's very reasonable and his turnaround is excellent. He's the one that turned down the barrel on my current project. Took it from .750 to .625 and mounted the A2 FSB.

Well folks, it just might be zipper rippin' time. Here's some photos to whet Rsquared's appetite! Folks, the handguards were included when I bought the upper receiver and are the original Armalite pieces that were included on the AR-10Bs. I had them and the A1 pistol grip refinished by John Thomas of Retro Arms works in his "mottled brown" finish. I refinished the type D M16A1 stock using Krylon Fusion plastic paint in "Expresso". John Thomas also mounted the FSB which is an M16A2 unit and reprofiled the barrel thinner forward of the FSB. The flash hider is an exact replica of the flash hider used on the Cuban AR-10s that were ordered by Bautista and intercepted by Castro's forces. This was made using the factory drawings provided by AR10.nl and only differ from the specs by using 5/8x24 threads common to modern AR-10s/LR308s. I figure my next step is to see about getting the "fence" on the right side of the lower milled off, as well as the little protrusion around the magazine catch on the left side. Then I'll have to see about making a larger version of the 2-piece front pivot pin like what was used on the SP1. Guys, this is a work in progress so any and all recommendations are welcome. Thanks for looking. P.S. For those that are interested you can reach John Thomas at jntmjt1@yahoo.com. His prices are very reasonable and he's got very quick turn-around. Plus, he's got a jig for AR-10s/LR308s now so he can do that type of work now!

LMAO!!! I like it here on these forums! Ya'll are nuts, my kinda nuts! <thumbsup>

I'll try to be gentle with Rsquared! ^-^ I too have "had a thing" about the early AR-10s. This is just my humble tribute to what I believe should have been our next battle rifle after the M1 Garand, had not politics and other BS intervened. I think that had saner, more logical minds been on the weapons boards the FAL and the AR-10 would've been slugging it out. Don't get me wrong, I like the M-14/M1A but think the AR-10 and FAl would've been better choices. And I'll post photos ASAP! <thumbsup> P.S. This will probably become an "on-going project" so I'm looking at getting the "fence" on the right side of the lower receiver milled off, as well as the protrusion around the opening of the mag release on the left side. The stock that you'll see initially might get replaced by a version with the sling swivel bolted to the left side similar to what was seen on the Dutch and Portuguese AR-10s.

Here's the flash hider I had made. It is an exact duplicate, using the Dutch Artillerie Inrichtingen drawings, with the exception of the internal threads. They've been done in 5/8x24 instead of the 13x1 LH.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've been able to learn how to do quite a bit on the AR platform and actually branched out into modifying Saigas to the conventional pistol grip AK format. The only reason I farmed out these two barrels is that I've never done a FSB install and I wanted these done perfectly. So I might try my hand at a FSB install on my next build, hopefully a Hydra-Matic M16A1 clone. Since we are talking about the two barrels and the FSB installs, I've got some news for you guys. John Thomas at Retro Arms will be doing those FSBs for me as well as refinishing some handguards and a pistol grip in the "mottled brown". I hope to have everything back and at least the AR-10/Cuban clone done by the first week of Dec - and photos posted. ;)

The last part of your statement applies to me! I sometimes have an uncanny ability to screw up the least complicated thing! LOL!

Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, I've only heard of one instance (at AR15.com BTW) where someone wasn't happy with ADCO's work but ADCO took it back and made things right and quickly! Looks like I found the recommendation that I was looking for. Thanks folks, especially 98Z5V! <thumbsup>

Neither barrel has been drilled for the taper pin "grooves" but both FSBs have already been drilled from previous installations. Just sent an e-mail to ADCO with questions. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

You're absolutely correct. However, I've been working on these two builds since the middle of 2013 and am trying to work with what I've got. It took forever to get the barrels I needed so now I'm trying to get the FSBs mounted. The A2 FSB is going on the 20" barrel on an older AR-10B with the carry handle charging handle. The "F" marked FSB is going onto the 18" barrel (and yes it's a rifle length gas system) which will use a flat-top SI Defense receiver set. I didn't think the F marked FSB would be that big a hindrance on the flat-top rifle. If necessary I could always shorten the front sight post. I thought the carry-handle AR-10 rig would be more critical and should get the A2 FSB. I just need to find someone that can mount these and do the job properly.
-
Folks, I need two front sight bases installed and need some good guidance/recommendations. The first barrel is a 20" Rainier AR-10 format barrel that will get a standard A2 FSB, the other is an 18" Black Hole Weaponry DPMS format unit that will get an "F" marked FSB. Both barrels and both FSB's are .750". Thanks in advance folks! <thumbsup>

Not really sitting on it. My work takes me on the road a lot, far more than when I was active duty. I did a month at Ft. Stewart, GA in April , then 3 months at Cranbury, NJ, then 5 weeks in 29 Palms, CA. Got back home the 15th of October and was able to order the parts I needed to complete these projects. Just have to get a small bit of machining done and then I can get down to assembling! I hope to have some photos for you guys by mid-Nov! <thumbsup>

Quick update folks, Had to go with a Rainier Arms 20" barrel which arrived Monday, the 27th. Have to ship that off to get the visible portion of the barrel forward of the FSB re-profiled down to .625", going to have a standard FSB mounted. That will probably be a temporary measure until I can snag a real Dutch FSB or one of the retro reproduction units that someone over at another forum had made awhile back. Getting the handguards (original AR-10B round units) and pistol grip redone in the brown "mottled" finish. Have an exact copy of the "Cuban" flash hider getting parked. Hopefully will have everything assembled and photographs posted by the end of November.

Robocop1051, I just finished taking a dremel to the backside of my safety selector. Also, I was a bit annoyed with the rear take-down pin. I didn't like having to use a punch or something else to get the pin started when opening the receiver halves so I replaced the DPMS length take-down pin with an Armalite take-down pin. Problem solved. The Armalite pin has about 1/16" exposed on the left side, just enough for me to get it started with my fingertip. On the rest of the stuff, here's the status: Just got in my barrel - BHW 18" polygonal rifling, rifle length gas system, lightweight profile. Sending it off to get an "F" FSB mounted, then complete the build and post photos. Have an SI Ni-B BCG on the way.

308, sorry wasn't paying attention when I posted the thread.

Disregard Folks - got one on the way. Mods, please delete this post. Folks, I'm trying to finish up a build on an SI Defense receiver set and just need the ejection port cover rod. LMK what you've got. Thanks.

That looks excellent! <thumbsup>

That is awesome! I agree with Toolndie7, she makes it look easy! <thumbsup>

Almost the final chapter. Sent back the other receiver set and the two 20rd HK magazines. That apparently was someone else's order that got sent to me by mistake. Got an e-mail from Robert yesterday, that they received that receiver, but they're sending the two 20rd HK magazines back to me, along with the forward assist. Turns out that John had intentionally sent those mags to me in the first place as a thank you. ^-^ So, it all turned out good. <thumbsup> Now to start gathering the rest of the parts for this build!
-
Okay, here's the correct set that I got back today: They're sending me another forward assist unit.
-
Well, the next step is to open up this package that I just got from SI Defense! Ooh, ooh, ooh! Got my first lower receiver back, with a correct HK format upper. This set fits so tight it's awesome! Talked to Robert and John. Looks like I accidentally got someone else's order. So, they'll be e-mailing me a shipping label and they'll get the other set back. Now I can really start gathering parts for this build! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Looks like things are looking up! I'll post more photos in a few minutes. <thumbsup>

Well gang, I got the receiver set back a couple of days ago. Got the correct upper this time, here's a few photos: Plus they were nice enough to send me a couple of 20rd HK magazines to boot. Well, I've got some minor issues to iron out with John at SI so I'll leave things there.
