  1. Im building a Ar .308 DPMS style on a SI Defense matching set. I have the Recievers, BCG... looking to buy other parts. Wanted a RA barrel, might have to cough up for the Noveske. Is the buffer tube the same as an AR, just need a stronger spring and buffer? Thanks. Michael.
  2. ATAC-R Go big or go home.
  3. I have a NF 5-22X56 ZS/ High Speed Turret on my Remington 700 300 WM. If you are going to 1000, you will need a 20 MOA base...and probably/maybe a 40 MOA base for a 308. (depending on the optic). I shot the Win Mag to 1700 in Idaho at a Defensive Edge course with 70 MOA elevation and a 20 MOA base.
  4. I dont know what a "zukimon" is...but I hope I don't have it. :O) I know this project is gonna cost me a lot of $. I sold my bolt .308...and said, "oh . Ill just build an AR10/AR .308 like I did my GF's AR15. Lets see... Matched upper and lower in that cool milled aluminum...700.00, bad ass barrel at 350.00... wait...I only have 450.00 left. How can I buy that sweet free float handguard, Gisselle, Magpul stock with a LPK with that? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..
  5. And it aint good enough just to bring a heart....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That would be MUCH better than just gel....except the cleanup. I can appreciate the larger caliber vs smaller caliber. I always start with smaller handgun, and work my way up to the long rifles. One .308 blast and its all over for the gel...but a fine example of kinetic energy. Really sends home the lesson of mass and speed when you increase the mass of the bullet and speed up x3.
  6. Thanks DA... This site is awesome. Clears up a lot of the grey area about these rifles. Extremely helpful if you are going to build one vs. buy an entire rifle.
  7. I teach a ballistic injury class for a National Registry Paramedic course. The final Coup De Gras is to go out and shoot some gelatin with different rounds. I have gotten hi-tech and placed a couple pig hearts and femurs from the local butcher in it for the "oooh ahhhh" factor. I have been using a food grade beef gelatin and it works well. If you mix the gelatin thicker than the directions, it sets up more like the DOJ gelatin standard. But if you just want to see penetration and bullet expansion...it works great. Its a PITA, and you have to stir like mad, and if you introduce too much gelatin at once, it clumps. Otherwise...other than your house stinking...its easy. :)
  8. Just sold my .308 bolt gun, and am looking to build a nice AR in .308. Lord, what an endeavor. I can see this will be a project. Pretty frustrating when you get into the process of reading all the blogs and reviews of equipment. "yeah its great sub MOA" and then "Mine sucked, wouldn't even cycle a round". Ugh. Just wanted to say greetings, and I will be in here studying a lot for my parts for my project build. Michael.
