  1. Reading off my repair ticket: Replaced barrel minor cut/ polish chamber measure head space- ok test fired- ok slight cratering of primers is normal. The heads of the cases are so screwed up they won't fit into the case holder in the press.
  2. It does this to all ammo. Yes the ejector pins move in. I am going to try an adjustable gas block, and hoping that will help...
  3. The picture doesn't show too well the 2 extractor marks, but the heads of the brass are so bad that I cannot even get them in the holder to reload the brass. I am going to try an adjustable gas block, and see if that helps. I have never had primers and extractor marks ruin brass before. These were FGMM 168gr. straight out of the box.
  4. The reason I asked who made the barrels for DPMS was because my gun was in for warranty repair and they said it needed a new barrel because of head spacing problems. I called DPMS and they said it was a minimum wait of 6 months for a barrel, but warranty got priority. DPMS does not repair their own guns either. Ahlmans in MN is their repair facility. My gun was there for 2 months and I just got it back today. It craters the primers and leaves 2 ejector marks on the head of the brass to where they are not reloadable. After 2 months at the repair facility, this is a pic from today.
  5. They are not reloadable. I have an adjustable gas block on order. Someone told me to try that. On another forum the guy sent his back to DPMS for warranty work and they replaced the bolt with one with a smaller firing pin hole. I have a dpms ar15 and it does great. I wanted to love this rifle also, but not so far. These were FGMM rounds out of the box.
  6. I am looking for someone in Virginia that is knowledgeable to look at my DPMS G2. I have sent it back for warranty repair and got it back today and it is still cratering the primers. It has a new barrel installed and headspace checked. They say it is ok and that slight cratering is normal. Any help please? Thanks
  7. Can anyone tell me who supplies DPMS with the 16" barrel for the G2 recon .308. How many people have a G2 Recon that have had to send it in for problems? Thanks
  8. Awesome group there FaRKle! I have a G2 Recon I bought last February. From day 1 it has had the primer cratering and the 2 extractor marks (bad). I noticed you mentioned that. Not trying to change the subject, but has there been any mention of fixing these problems? I have worked with this gun on and off and it shoots a good group at 100yds, but to show no pressure I have to back down the loads. Thanks for advice in advance.
  9. FaRKle! where can you get the tapered firing pin?
  10. Bones, glad to hear your gun is doing good. Mine has the same primer problem. I agree, I think the hole is too large around the firing pin.
  11. Hi pokey. I have one of the G2 Recons. I love the weight and feel. It isin't much larger than the AR15. It doesn't like military ammo. It does like SMK 168 and 175. It started out shooting 4" groups with military surplus. Shot a box of Federal gold match 168 and less than 2" group at 100yds 20 shots. Loaded up some hand loads of 168's and 175's and did several .5 to .7 groups at 100yds. The bad: it doesn't like upper loads by the hodgdon manual. Lower loads around 2300fps were good. Upper loads showed pressure on the primers and the case bases. Have shot 100 to 150 rounds thru it with no misfires. I love the gun. Hope this helps.
  12. Let me try this again. If I load a little above medium loads, the primers crater. A little more and the cases at the headstamp start to deform. I just download it at like 2300fps and the cases look good, and the gun liked them too.
  13. The gun doesn't like above average loads. Load it a little above a medium load and the primers crater, and even a little hotter and the head of the cases start to show pressure. I just download it at like 2300fps and cases look good.
  14. Thanks Wash. I will see if I can find some.
  15. Thanks for the info survivalshop
