My feelings on this weekend are very strong and prideful. Coming from a military family, (father, mother and ball brothers), the meaning of this day was never lost. It is no wonder that my father, a Colonel who saw duty in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, died on this weekend 24 years ago. A fitting rememberance for me, and I know my flags will be flying high and with the utmost respect to all who served and sacrificed to preserve our liberties. God bless you all! A quote from the 23rd President of the United States- Benjamin Harrison: "I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did."

As mentioned, most parts from Armalite....receiver says Armalite Inc, Rifle, 7.62mm, AR-10. Upper is Armalite as well as are all fire control parts, lower parts, BCG, etc...just a different barrel, handguard and stock. Just did not come from Armalite as a package. P2B

Probably a stupid question, but.... I have been reading these forums and other online sources and am starting to question whether I may call my rifle an AR10. I know the term is a proprietary Armalite designation. However how far must one deviate to lose the designation? In my case, I have an from Armalite an AR10B lower, LPK and FCG, gas block and tube, BCG, and mags. The stock is an ACE stock with Heavy Buffer and spring from Heavybuffers. Barrel and barrel extension is JP Rifles supermatch, with JP floating handguard. Scope is Vortex 6-24x50 and will be on a Larue mount. Since this is a combo not specifically sold by Armalite, once the pieces come together, would this be, or not to be, an AR10? Sorry for the newb question, and if already answered can someone redirect me to the thread? P2B

The mounts include low, medium, and high individual rings from Vortex, the Vortex QD mount, and Larue QD mounts LT158, 120 and 104......At the moment I am leaning toward the LT158 (I have a 104 on another build with a 56mm scope objective). P2B

I did not think about that aspect Sisco...but that makes a ton of sense! I was concentrating on optimizing the utility of the scope when I should be thinking about the shooter as well!! Most of my builds I use Larue QD mounts so the height is on the upper end of my options. I tend to shoot very comfortably and consistenly with these setups. This .308 and scope combo will be one of my farthest reaching setups (my 7mm Rem Mag is close), so I am asking these types of questions. Thanks for the input... Any other commentary is welcome!! P2B

Hello brothers....I am just back from a lengthy overseas trip and have received most of my parts for my AR10 build. As you are all aware, the cost adds up quickly, and I do need to invest in some home renovations and exterior work. However I also need some optics. My other builds have Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40, Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40, Trijicon ACOG TSN, and Trijicon 3.5-10x56. I did not want to blow past another grand for another optic but wanted something with a little more reach for this build. I opted for the Vortex PST 6-24x50 due to pricing and pretty good reviews. I am now looking for the proper rings. I will be mounting to an Armalite AR10 flat top upper rail. My question to the board, and to those knowledgeable with longer range shooting, I am better served getting a ring that mounts the center of the scope as close to the base as possible? It would seem the closer the optical center is to the rifle bore center, the utility of the up and down MOA adjustments would be optimized. Am I out in left field here and overthinking an issue, or is there merit to this? My choices are (from optic center to base mount) 22.1mm, 24.64mm, 32mm, and 37.34mm. The objective of the scope is 50mm.... Any help and experience is appreciated... P2B

Thanks washguy....I did just that and already have my order in!!! Thanks for the suggestion!!!! I will order a new SOCOM stock (rifle length) and already placed the order for the buffer parts. The recommended buffer is the AR10R-XH buffer and the AR10 buffer spring!!! P2B

Roger that Shibiwan... The SOCOM stock is the one with the integral buffer tube, so no need for another tube. Based on what I gathered here and at heavybuffers.com, either stock is acceptable, with difference being the buffer. Both carbine and rifle buffers are the same weight, and only the length changes, and will accomodate the differing length of the adjustable stock. Anyone on board with one of these stocks? P2B

Thanks for the quick response....I was reading the heavy buffer info on the "what you need to know" section, and have visited heavybuffers.com. Do you know if I would be OK with the M4 SOCOM stock (carbine length) or should I go to the rifle length? No problem with hazing...its all good!!! P2B

So I am new to the forums and the caliber, and am excited to get the build together. I will most likely have a series of questions, but would like to start with my first regarding and rifle stock. I did a search but am not seeing anything specific, so if this has been answered, could someone link the info, and if not, any help is appreciated. I am awaiting delivery of an Armalite AR10 upper, Lower, and BCG. Barrel is JP 18" supermatch. What I need help with is compatibility of an ACE M4 SOCOM stock that I already own with this combination of upper/lower/BCG from Armalite. The SOCOM stock I have is the shorter version (7.5" - 9.5") for carbine buffer and spring. There is also a longer version (9.5" - 11.5") for rifle buffer and spring. Midway has these described for AR15 and LR308. Does anyone own an AR10 with this type of stock, and if so, what length stock, buffer type, and spring would you be using? Some internet searching says that the Armalite BCG is longer and and collapsible stock needs to be able to accomodate the length. I only and familiar with more of the AR15 sized parts, and have not had any build issues, but this caliber seems to present many questions for me. Any help for this newb is appreciated. P2B
