Stripped Round Will not go into Battery
warthog984 replied to warthog984's topic in Building a .308AR
THANK YOU LORD!!!!!!!!!!! I got this SOB to work. I did not get the mags yet, but based on a couple of posts from survialshop and toolndie7 I was steered in the right direction. Toolndie7 sent me a PM with a picture or a similar issue with an AR15. What was happening is the ejector is not letting the cartridge head center into the bolt. It appears that AR15 bevel the edges of the ejector to aid in positioning the cartridge head in the bolt. Toolndie7 recommended that I remove the ejector and try to chamber a round. I tried to get the ejector roll pin out yesterday but had no luck. I knew when I got the bolt that the ejector seemed hard to push, but I was able to close the bolt with a live round and it functioned during my live fire. I over looked that fact that i must have been slightly binding (burr in the bolt maybe). I just thought to myself this morning what if I put some Brownells Action Lube around the ejector and hand cycle it with a punch. I did this for about 5 minutes and the ejector must have wore the ejector roll pin out. the ejector then fell out of the bolt. I proceeded to check the bolt with a full mag and it chamber instantly. I am so damn happy that this post may be all over the place. Yesterday I called Midway USA and told them to send me a new BCG since the one I got had a stuck ejector roll pin. I remember looking at the ejector roll pin when I got the BCG think someone at DPMS really beat the poop out of it trying to get it in place. Now I play the waiting game again for my new BCG. I want to shoot this gun so bad. -

Good Different Strokes reference. I think he was asking if the barrel extension and receiver cuts match. I took a picture an put it on one of the previous posts. I am getting my DPMS mags today. We shall see. -
Aero Precision M5 upper and lower... .308 receivers
warthog984 replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
I removed my F/A and put a gas vent in its place for suppressor use. I did try F/A before removing it and it did not work. I have a DPMS BCG and it has mentioned above that it does not have serrations to catch the F/A. Based on the review on Midway USA by The Wild Woman, I know the F/A was useless going into the build and decided a gas vent from Weopons Outfitters was more appropriate for my build since I shoot suppressed. Here is the link for the review: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1413131451/dpms-bolt-carrier-assembly-lr-308-308-winchester?cm_vc=ProductFinding Off subject. Has anyone tried this BCG sold by Midway USA? Ok...I am going to take some pictures of the bolt before and after disassemble. Also, I am using Springco extractor springs. I am going to put the factory spring back in it. -

Silly question. Should there be a lot more tension the the 308 ejector than say and AR15 ejector. I have to push pretty hard. -
Aero Precision M5 upper and lower... .308 receivers
warthog984 replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
Just curios....who on this forum bought the Aero Precision 308 upper and lower combo? I have a topic on this site labeled "Stripped Round will not go into Battery." Has anyone else that has done a build with this 308 receiver set had any issues related to using PMAGs. I am waiting on some DPMS steel mags to see if I have the same issues. -

I went to the local sporting good store and talked to a guy that worked there. I know he had an AR 308 variant. It turned out he has an LMT 308. The sucky part is most AR 308s are not interchangeable. My guess is a DPMS upper should fit, but as many have mentioned in this post we may be dealing with tolerance stacking. If anyone is in the North Eastern Ohio area and would like help with my abortion of a gun, please contact me. -

Sorry....my post was confusing. The barrel looked square before torquing down the barrel nut. Looked like the barrel extension was making good contact on all sides of the upper receiver. The hole looked concentric to my eyes. I think the hardest part is eyeballing what is the issue when I may be dealing with minimal tolerances being out. -

The barrel fit fairly snug in the receiver. The barrel extension seemed pretty true when installed into the upper receiver. -

I measured the rear of the mag with 20 round loaded to the top of the highest rounds rim and got .398. Seems like it as low like your CMMG with Pmag. -

Ok....I just got a chance to look at all the traffic on this today. Yes - I did headpspace bolt to barrel with the following gauges: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/638620/ptg-headspace-go-gage-243-winchester-260-remington-7mm-08-remington-308-winchester-338-federal-358-winchester?cm_vc=ProductFinding http://www.midwayusa.com/product/643952/ptg-headspace-no-go-gage-243-winchester-260-remington-7mm-08-remington-308-winchester-338-federal-358-winchester?cm_vc=ProductFinding I did fire the gun by inserting a bullet into the barrel. It fired, extracted, and ejected the round. The pictures of the round being fed in my post number 39 where done by pulling the charging handle all the way back and releasing. I did not slowly cycle the bolt forward. I I would agree that the round is not square with the bolt head and extractor when it binds in the chamber. Would this be magazine related. I have 4 metal magazine arriving on Thursday. I still feel I made a big mistake buying a lower and upper from Aero since this was their first batch. -

Here is what I used for spring and buffer from Midway USA with Magpul UBR: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/813595/dpms-buffer-spring-lr-308-carbine?cm_vc=ProductFinding http://www.midwayusa.com/product/232006/dpms-buffer-lr-308-carbine?cm_vc=ProductFinding -
Stripped Round Will not go into Battery
warthog984 replied to warthog984's topic in Building a .308AR
The initial title for this issue was failure to go into battery. I just piggy backed on what survivalshop said in post #38. I have a Magpul UBR stock with DPMS 308 carbine buffer spring and DPMS carbine buffer. As far as I know, that is the correct stuff. Magpul UBR uses AR15 carbine length tube. Can someone give me carbine spring and buffer measurements? I can measure to make sure i was sent the right stuff. The package says 308 carbine. The bolt hold open works. I would figure if the buffer and spring were wrong, the bolt hold open would not function on an empty mag. -

Yes...I have loaded one round and fire it. The bolt hold open did work when the magazine is empty. I believe the bolt was stripping the round from the mag, not the carrier. -

Thanks Wash.....I cant really tell much from your pictures. If it is only of a .001, I cant tell with these non-calibrated eyes. The chamber is dirty as hell from all the lube. I have hand cycled this actions way to many times. The bolt carrier does move smooth now. ::) Note that I did clean the chamber before test firing it. -

Just tried the holding the magazine forward and cycling the handle. No luck. i also tried it while holding the magazine towards the stock. No luck either. I ordered 4 magazines from Midway USA last night. Two DPMS 20 rnd, and two AR Stoner (ASC). Hope it does the trick. I looked for C-Products, but Aim is the only place that has them in stock. They only have one in stock and want $11 to ship. The reviews for C Products are horrible on Palmetto States website. I wonder if they discontinued the 308 magazine. -

Thanks for your input. I was hoping to hear about a similar issue to gauge how to fix it. Are DPMS the best steel magazines? What about AR Stoner? I dont think I would bother with ProMag. Any other steel magazines that I have not listed? The M4 cut outs are are not that great on the Aero upper receiver. It looks like the rounds are hitting on the middle of the barrel feed ramps, so I was not to concerned with the poor cut outs on the receiver. If I saw copper marks on the upper receiver cut outs, I would be concerned. I was thinking about grinding the receiver to match, but I did not want bare aluminum. -

Toolndie7 the entire barrel is melonite coated. The chamber is not polished. I was thinking of calling Mega on Monday to ask them if there is any way to polish it. I hand cycled this gun over hundred times. I just got back from the range. I manually put a round in the chamber and fired it. No issues extracting a single round. I then put a round in the chamber and two in the magazine. After the fired round ejected, the new round would jam in the chamber 3/4 of the way. Same issue as manually cycled from the magazine. I dont know if this issue will get better through breaking in. My understanding is melonite is some tough stuff. Robocop 1051 I did exactly what you mentioned with the mag catch yesterday and had the same issues. I have an Armalite AR10A mag catch. I was wondering if that was the issue, but it does not appear to be related. -

I just tried PMC 147gr and Federal 7.62 OTM 168gr. Same results. I am going to try the local SG store to see if they have any DPMS steel magazines. I am also go to take the gun out and manual load a round in the chamber and fire it to see if the results are the same. -

Yes. I have tried letting slam forward as hard as possible. I can get it to feed if I set it on its side and place it on my chair and cycle the handle real slow. If I go real slow I can watch the round pop out of the magazine feed lips and tilt the rear of the case up and then the round kind of self centers itself back into the chamber. I would have thought the round would funnel better into the chamber. -

My thought was tight chamber. The rounds do drop in the chamber easy by hand, but it fits like a glove. I dont know if it only a thousandth of an inch hanging it up. I put some light grease in the chamber hoping it would allow the round to slide by. Anyone else have a Mega barrel care to comment?
