  1. Guys I ended up finally getting it on. Instead of using grease I used light gun oil. Really good even wacks on both sides of the gas block, it SLOWLY went on. I banged it back off and wiped it clean. I got off a lot of excess coating that came off in the process and now it goes on a lot easier.
  2. Farkle, Its an EXTREMELY tight fit. I tried with a rubber mallet and it didnt go anywhere. I was hitting it very hard.
  3. Thanks guys. Never had this problem with any of my builds before. I'll head to Home Depot tomorrow and pick up some stuff to sand with. Dumb question, if I sand off the melonite finish on the inside of the gas block, won't it rust?
  4. OK exact measurement (as much as I could get them) with digital calipers Gas block - .7510 Barrel Shoulder - .7510 It's probably not going on because one needs to be SLIGHTLY smaller than the other so they can mate.
  5. Yes correct it's the set screw type. Ok the issue I have with the heat method is that if I ever need to take it off, I'm going to have to heat it up again to take it off. So i'm kind of leaning towards sanding the inside of the gas block since I dont feel like buying another gas block. Sounds like emery cloth and sand the inside of the gas block with my finger? What grit should I use?
  6. So I ended up coming across some other threads online and it looks like other people who ran into this situation bought the "clap on" style gas block with gives a little bit more clearance when installing. I might go that route since it's a fairly inexpensive part.
  7. So I finally got all the parts that I needed to build my .308 (buttstock was on backorder for 3 months). So I started to assemble the upper and ran into an issue. The gas block will not go onto the barrel shoulder. I tried greasing it up but it only goes on a couple mm's and then jams up. So I said ok maybe I ordered the wrong dimension on the gas block or barrel shoulder. I double checked and everything is .750 Barrel: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/rifle-barrels/308ar-barrels-prod69784.aspx?avs|Make_3=AR xzzx308 Gas Block (part # 100-011-111): http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/gas-system-parts/gas-blocks/ar-15-m16-low-profile-gas-block-prod26994.aspx So I thought ok maybe when the products were packaged up with the wrong product labels. So I had another barrel for an AR15 project that had a .750 barrel shoulder. I took the gas block and it slid right on the barrel with little effort. This to me proved it's not the gas block but the barrel. I then took out a set of digital calipers and measured the barrel and the diameter of the gas block. Both come to an exact .750 So now that I confirmed the parts are in fact both .750 but the barrel shoulder seems to be a little thick, what do you guys recommend? I'm afraid if I force it on too hard it's going to get stuck because it takes a LOT of effort to get it off when it gets jammed. I dont want to sand it because it will obviously ruin the finish of the barrel.....
  8. I haven't forgotten about this. So I got the rail a couple weeks back and was going to put the upper together and realized that I did not have a freaking gas tube!!!! So ended up having to place an order for one. I got it this past weekend and I was going to spend some time this upcoming weekend and put it together. Then I got a notification this morning that my buttstock kit which has been out of stock for MONTHS finally shipped! So looks like i'm going be completing my 308 build this weekend!!!
  9. The rule is in effect for me. I asked about a product that no one has ever mentioned on here before and a bunch of people chimed in on me posting a review.
  10. Great, that's exactly what I wanted to hear.
  11. They ship on Sunday's? Just got an email that my order shipped from when I placed the order earlier this afternoon.
  12. Well looks like I'm going to be the guinea pig. Ordered placed.
  13. Thanks Robo. Yea I came across a thread on AR15.com where members used the SLR handguard rails on their builds. No negative press from what I could find in the thread. I think I'm going to take the plunge.....
  14. I have a Rainer Arms Upper/Lower receiver set: http://www.rainierarms.com/rainier-arms-ultramatch-billet-upper-ambi-lower-combo-set-308 It's a DPMS high profile and the handguard I referenced is a DPMS high as well. I'm pretty sure they are compatible. I'm just curious if these are quaility rails or are they complete garbage? I bought a rail system couple years back from X company for an AR build and I wasn't very satisfied with the fit. Since then I'm very cautious with products from companies i'm not familiar with.
  15. Great build. I have an Aero M5 receiver set sitting in storage. Someday i'll get around to building it out. Got another .308 build I'm slowly putting together.....
  16. So I need to buy a handguard for my 20" AR 308 build (also could use one for an AR15 too). I came across SLR Rifleworks handguards. This specific one caught my eye: http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=66_107_112_110&product_id=429 I've never bought any of their products before. I've been googling them and I haven't found anything bad about them. Curious to know if anyone on here has any experience with these rails? All I really care about is they install and line up true/straight and stay snug.
  17. I seriously thought about buying one back when they had the pre-order available. I said to myself that the first batch is probably going to have some "kinks" in it so let a couple rounds of batches go through and see some reviews online before considering. Sucks that you got a product you are not 100% satisfied with. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call. I know Aero's customer service is top notch. You never know what they will say if you don't call them.
  18. Yea it will probably work fine but what they advertise should be what it looks like. Easy on the Photoshopping!
  19. Yea just going by looks alone, the finish from Fulton Armory seems better. As far as Aero's finishes go, I have one of their AR15 receivers in FDE. The coating EASILY comes off. Probably one of the least durable coating on a receiver I've had to date.
  20. Woops, meant to say PRS stock, not PTR.
  21. So it's been a while since I've posted. I ordered the Magpul PTR stock kit that Brownells sells. It's been out of stock for a little while now (the only thing holding me up from finishing the build). I figured that since its a .308 that maybe Magpul just doesn't make as much of them. Well last night I was buying some stuff for my AR15 SBR build and I noticed that a lot of Magpul stocks for the AR15 platform were also out of stock. It almost seems like there Is there some sort of Magpul shortage going on right now? I've never seen so many Magpul items be out of stock on Brownells website. I thought maybe it was just Brownells but Midwayusa was also showing similar out of stock items. What gives?
  22. OK thanks guys. Never saw one designed like that before.
  23. OK so I ended up buying a second BCG from Fulton armory for a future build. You can see from my earlier post the original one I got has the traditional cotter pin in it. The new BCG I got has a completely different pin in it. The best way to describe it is it has a flat button like face and sits deep inside the carrier. Never seen that style pin before. What's the pros/cons of it?
  24. OK I think I might have found the answer. Looks like it's not. If I have a DPMS pattern receiver, I need an SR-25 based mag which doesn't appear to be the same as an FAL mag......
  25. Hey, So I live in a state where an AWB still exists. If I want to use regular capacity magazines (high capacity), I have to track down in state preban mags. I found a guy selling them but I'm not 100% sure if they are compatible. My lower receiver is a DPMS pattern .308 (Rainier Arms Receiver) and the guy selling the magazines are labeled as "FAL Mags (also Rock River LAR308)". I believe it is but want someone to double check my logic. Sorry for the typo in the title. Don't know how to fix it.....
