  1. They didn't in Alabama or Georgia in the 80's, you were on your own. We had to deal with this in Georgia when I was growing up on the farm. We were told to handle it. At Ft. Benning in the 80's when a pack was sighted out on the ranges the MP's would try and kill as many as they could. They were a menace. Just do a search on "Ga. Couple Mauled to Death by Wild Dog Pack" and "feral dog pack attacks" Try one for coyotes too you'll get some hits.
  2. I hate that for you. I had a situation like that once. Needless to say I left that family. The one I have now is very gun friendly.
  3. My 1911 is cocked and locked and when it is its on my person or my night stand. And so is any other pistol I have. I don't keep anything loaded around the house except what's on me and a shotgun and rifle. I live in a rural area and last year in September there were two rapes near my house, one was less than two miles away as the crow flies. She tried to fight back and beaten severely because of it. She is divorced with a six year old son at the time. My wife decided that she needed a side arm that was for her. We found one for her and she has a CCW, carries daily and practices with me. I have always carried because of my background. I always carry around the house because of burglary/home invasion you don't want to be scrambling for the hidden/stored firearm. Seconds count. LtCol. Grossman related the story of the sheepdog, the sheep and the wolves. I would add that there is another-the Wolfhound, bred to hunt and run the wolf down and take him at his own game. Once your a Sheepdog or Wolfhound old habits die hard. Seconds count when the wolf comes.
  4. Thanks for the welcome. That sounds like a sweet setup.
  5. We have a similar problem in the South but it's a Coydog. Half Coyote and half dog. I was hunting the Swamp behind my house 3 years ago and caught movement in my peripheral vision. At first I thought is was a Large German Shepard. But it didn't look right. When it dawned on me what I was looking at I pumped 5 rounds into as quick as I could. I had a hard drive crash a few months back but I'll see if I saved the pictures somewhere. This thing had the color and markings of a coyote and a German Shepard. We have two Coyote packs in my area and I kill them when I can. The story is that coyotes are so bad here because the dog track in Shorter, AL brought some coyotes here to train the Greyhounds and some got loose. A trainer who lives close to me says this is correct but his mind is not what it used to be. So I don't know for sure. I started seeing coyotes at Ft. Stewart back in the early 80's. We had a FTX we were getting ready for. I drove down to the motor pool to check on some last minute details. It was twilight, 1845 hrs with a somewhat heavy misty fog. From the Jeep headlights I caught sight of something at the far end of the motor pool. I thought it was someone's pet that got loose. I finished my detail and was close too where I saw the dog. I flashed my light around and caught sight of this coyote. The first I'd seen in Georgia. There'd been talk of pets disappearing on post and this is what I came up with. One thing is for certain, I don't go out in the woods anymore with out something on me and it's not a .22LR. We lose fawns here because of coyotes/wild dogs, wild hogs(if you see a hog and don't kill it you will be thrown out of most clubs here) and bobcats.
  6. What are you guy's running?
  7. Like your Avatar. I haven't seen a OV-10 Bronco in a while!
  8. I live near Montgomery and Tuskegee. Tuskegee the land that time forgot.
  9. That's probably what I'm gonna do once I get my ducks in a row.
  10. Thanks for the warm welcome! I should have said in my post that I do own two .308's now. Just not one in AR configuration. The first one in a M1A that I bought in the 80's from a local gun shop near Ft. Rucker. After it arrived we built the rifle to M21 spces. I'm old school and love this rifle but I also know what it takes to keep it running right. That's why I'm looking at the AR platform. I'm old school but have a open mind. The other .308 is a Savage Model 112. It's a shooter. I have two AR's in 5.56, one a A2 and the other the M4 type. When I first joined the Army I was issued the M16A1 and later the CAR16 the for runner to the M4. I could make 'em run but the matatince was high and the magazines were bad. I hated this platform. Many years later (around 07) I decided to buy a Bushmaster A2 model because the availability of uppers that could be switched out for 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC. But I found the Bushmaster to not have any problems in reliability department and believe me I tried it. I even fired 200 rounds of Wolf through it with a couple of GI magazines that I had left over from the old days. I was impressed to say the least. Life intrudes in the plans of mice and men so I haven't had the chance to buy a Grendel upper yet. I bought the Carbine also in 5.56 for lighter carry. I've stuck with the 5.56 and 7.62 because of the availability and military use. I know these rounds. Before I branch off into a harder to find caliber I'm gonna find away for the .308AR. I found this site by accident and liked the looks of it. I'll post when I can help but I read more than I post. Again thanks for the welcome.
  11. Hello, Found the forum looking for info on .308 AR's. I don't have one now but I'm not a stranger to the .308-/7.62. When Money becomes available I'll have one. I like the LMT MWS but that's champagne and I'm on a water budget at this time. Former Military, married. Love hiking, camping, hunting ( All things firearms), Military History, e.t.c....
