Done deal here folks... Sketch hooked me up! Thanks again!!
-
Turned out the one I found was for 5.56 and not 7.62... So.... I'm still looking!

Found one! Thanks folks!!

Not a bad idea. If I had other parts to order I'd go for it. Ordering just one part... The shipping would literally double the cost.

As the title says... I'm looking for a A2 flash hider to install until my Ultra-9 is release from jail.

Thanks folks! The Ma Ten build was a bit of a challange... Even for one who has countless "small" builds under his belt. The receiver / rail height differences were the most confusing. With the help of Precision Reflex everything came out pretty darn good as far as I can see. The Mk12 design may be outdated for some but it holds a firm place in my memories. Ahhhh.... Yes.... the time honored supressor issue. From what I gather, Ops Inc. is no more. I'm told my quest for a more auditory pleasing range session needs to be addressed by Allen Engineering. A AE30 might fit the bill nicely... IF I CAN EVER ESCAPE THIS POLITICALLY BRAIN DEAD NANNY STATE IN WHICH I CURRENTLY RESIDE!!!! >:( I live in the Land of 10,000 lakes and not one privately owned supressor!

It's seen a short range session so I figured I'd better post up... My Mk12 Mod0-ish big brother build. Maten Ambi Receiver Set. Craftsmanship at it's finest!! I may have to build up a set for my 5.56 Mk12 version. Geissele High Speed NM DMR trigger. (VERY SWEET trigger!!!) No name ambi safety. F.A. 18.5" with rifle gas, A.E. muzzle brake (Yes... I did use a Armalite rifle length gas tube... <thumbsup> ) Precision Reflex forearm, top rail and folding sights. Exceptional quality parts! I'll be using more of PRI kit in future builds. NiB BCG Magpul grip and mags. Basic A2 stock w/ Slash's buffer and spring. Vortex Viper PST 2.5x10-44 sitting in a Larue LT-120 mount. This is a temp set up until I purchase better glass... N.F.? Leupold? S&B? Dunno yet... Harris bipod connected to the forearm under-rail with a Larue LT-130 adapter So far, she's a 1MOA shooter, from the bipod using 150gr. cheapo factory ammo. I expect better performance with better ammo and warmer weather. Shooting out behind the barn in 20 degree weather is not conducive to decent accuracy. My guess it's the shivering that throws off my POA... No feeding or firing issues to speak of. With the heavy buffer, this is a very easy shooting rifle. Almost too easy as it's gonna be tough to feed given the current powder availability...

My Armalite tube measured 15.5". And a DPMS tube I had measured 15.125". Sounds like we now have a 3rd length with the FAR tube at 15.450". But... old eyes and small text on the rule coud negate the .050" difference. I too have a FA barrel... 18.5" with rifle length gas. The Armalite tube extends a full 1.00" inside the receiver (Mega Maten). so far, with only 30 or so rounds down the pipe, not one feeding issue. Can't say for sure if the DPMS tube would have caused short stroking on my build, but confidence is high that it would have. So... Why the "need" for the longer tube? Inquiring minds want to know.

Yep!! That be the one!! Many thanks from this "search disfunctional" old fart. <thumbsup> This kind of confirms my suspicions... Comparing my laterst build with one of my AR-15's... the gas tube is about .25" shy on my .308. The DPMS tube is cuurently installed and a Armalite tube is on the way. Looks like a few extra tools will be coming along to the range. Thanks again!!

Seems I read here a while back of a member having issues due to a "short" gas tube. Seems the tube's protrusion into the upper receiver wasn't enough and switching from a regular "rifle length" tube to a Armalite rifle length tube solved his problems... I'm looking for THAT thread to refresh myself on the details. Anyone remember this? Or... Happen to have a link to the thread?

Hit a impasse... Which part goes under the knife?

Whoa... Whoa... Whoa... I did NOT jack my own thread... Yet. ;) It was only a preemptive strike announcing more info and a possible solution will be inbound shortly. THEN... I'll issue a proper thread hijacking alert! I think I'm getting the hang ot this... How am I doin' boss? -

Whoaaaa..... Maybe I shouldn't have asked. That was ugly! And the barrel porting was extra special!! -

Anybody happen to have a link the "rifle butchering" thread mentioned above? -

I'm not sure why/how my thread got derailed... Just curious... Is all this gun smith banter directed at me? -
Guess I was just trying to help... Yep... Lesson learned.

Hold the presses! Drop that Dremel! Power down the mill!! There are wheels in motion... I'll report back when a definite resolution has been arrived at. (Something tells me it's the answer I was looking for! <thumbsup> ) -

I'll make the final call when the barrel gets back... All options are still on the table and the dremel is standing... -
Thanks for the welcome! Already I've received suggestions and advice on my build that I may have overlooked if it wasn't for the forums! <thumbsup>

Just west of the metro.... For the time being that is...

Hit a impasse... Which part goes under the knife?
moose-hunter replied to moose-hunter's topic in Building a .308AR
Okay... Don't laugh! I know it's not the latest release of AutoCAD or SolidWorks... Let's see if I can explain my possible plan... Very basically, the height dim in red ("A") is the amount I need to remove in order for the sight to lay flat with just a bit overlapping the PRI tube. Without the barrel, I don't have exact numbers but it would amount to removing +/- .095". Less than half of the "flat" you see on the top of the sight hood. The raidus at the end of the pass, nearest the hinge, doesn't really matter and will end up being what ever the radius of the tooling is. Or it would end up at 90*... Depending on the direction of the cut. With this also being the gas block, I can mount and fit this and the gas tube, then cut the sight to suit. Finishing the cut will be either with a flat, non-reflective black paint. I found some that is VERY close to the original color, OR... My buddy, who runs a metal coating business, said he'd give it a go and match it as best he could. Either way, as long as it's close, and uniform from top to bottom, it will only be noticable when when the irons are deployed. Which hopefully will only be to dial them in. If they're need after that, I'll have more to worrie about than finishing since the $2K+ piece of glass on top of the rifle has just gone FUBAR... I hope I explained that correctly... Your thoughts? -

Thanks for all the suggestions! I have contacted PRI and am currently awaiting their response. Also... The barrel has been sent out and will be back in a couple weeks so I still have time to formulate a course of action. I have an idea of where I'd like to take this but it's tough to explain... I'll hit the Paint program and see if I can make a couple scrbbles for you folks... Hang tight, it may take a while as I've never been accused of being an artist... -
Using a Mega MaTen receiver set, I'm finding out the rail height differences have their drawbacks... I'm using a Precision Reflex carbon fiber tube and flip up front sight / gas block... The curve ball is the "height" of the front sight itself... The combination of the "regular" DPMS forearm and taller (Armalite/DPMS "high") front sight led to this condition... There's rougly .125" of interference, thus the sight can not lay flat when folded down. Leaving it alone is way more than enough to drive me nuts! That said, my options seem to be... (A) I clearance the forearm (carbon fiber) just enough to accept the sight hood in it's down position... OR ( B) I fire up the mill and remove enough material from the sight hood to clear the tube... Basically transforming the shape into a more of a "HK" style rather than a full hood. I've tried every different combo of assembly and spacing of the G.B. I can think of and it appears... Something needs to get cut. My impasse... Which way do I go? Either mod is very do-able... Which way would you go? Or am I over looking a way to create the needed room?
