  1. Unfortunately the rifle did not get built yet. I was unable to do the milling on my lower yet. Hopefully tomorrow morning. Having a big outage at my sister power plant and too many people going in and out! Not a good idea to have people asking what I'm milling!
  2. Malig, Those BCG'S go fast I guess. I got the email they were available at my son's little league game and I'm trying to buy it and watch my son. Pretty funny. I will do an in depth range report as soon as I get it built!
  3. According to Nathan at Faxon they use AIM BCG because they are right down the road from them. They assured me that the AIM Nitride BCG is solid. They use that BCG in ALL their testing rifles. They say they are GTG. I trust Nathan. He's been very helpful, answered all my dumb questions. Seems like a stand up guy. This new barrel is a work of art! Of course shooting the rifle will be the real test, but I'm very encouraged and very confident that this barrel and BCG combo will be GTG!
  4. I just received an AIM Surplus Nitride .308 BCG that has the FA serrations. I bought it because that's what Faxon uses in their test rifles. This BCG is one of the nicest I've seen. Will be used in my Ares Armor DPMS style billet upper and 80% billet lower build. Using a Faxon Firearms 18" black SS Heavy Fluted barrel
  5. Malig, Glad it fits. All I'm waiting on in my Fulton Armory LPK and my build will be done. Well I have to mill the lower still but only waiting on one more part! Should be finished Friday!
  6. You know I have to say this forum actually feels like a "community" not just a forum. I belong to another forum and you would get all kinds of rude, snippy replies to someone needing barrel nut help. I haven't been around here long, but I find I come here more and the "other forum" less!
  7. Just received my Midwest Industries .210 tang measurement SS Freefloat 15" rail. It matches perfectly with my Ares Armor DPMS style billet upper.
  8. My main goal is the 750 yard target on the hill at our range on HWY1. I may try shooting further but I also want to shoot at 100-300 yards for regular work. The man sized target at 750 yards is my "goal" I feel if I can learn to hit that I will be a success. I have so much to learn to shoot right
  9. No don't have the scope ordered yet I keep over thinking this whole scope deal. 12x, 16x, 20x back and forth depending what I read and who I talk to!
  10. Well here's what I came up with. Looks like the ultra high QD rings are the only one that will go above the Magpul MBUS rear sight. The only other option is if the scope sits far enough forward that the rear sight is not covered by scope. I am still researching. One the rifle is finished I cam measure Ey relief on SWFA scope and go from there! Don't beat me up too bad I've been working all night! PasoGunner
  11. Ok. I now know why I hated math so much in school! After research and measuring actual parts the Magpul MBUS front and rear sights are .51" above rail folded down. I am working the numbers to see how wide the eyepiece is down from center on the SWFA 16x. I only have to clear the rear sight. Does this seem resonable to come up with the correct Warne Rings. They measure ring height from top of rail to bottom of scope tube. So if all my measurements are from tube centerline (30mm tube) I should be on the right track! Any comments welcome! Thanks PasoGunner
  12. 98Z, Thanks for that input. I never really thought of that. Not alot of reason for back up sights anyway. I am not an operator (well I am a power plant operator) so I will not be going to war. I will do the math and go from there! Thanks again
  13. I will be running magpul MBUS on this rifle for now. I never thought about needing high rings so the scope would clear them. Thanks for the heads up. I will more than likely get the Warne rings. BOBRO looks awesome but gotta save a little money! Gonna see if SWFA sells the rings when I buy the SWFA 16x mil/mil scope. This rifle is gonna be more than I ever hoped. Now I gotta do my part and mill the lower carefully
  14. Man you guys are great. Thanks for all the info. I really appreciate being part of this community! Just got home from work. I will make some kind of decision when I wake up! Thanks again, PasoGunner
  15. Angel, Thanks for the specific info. It really helps. Can I ask a dumb question? Why Ultra High ones? I saw the Burris P.E.P.R mount on SWFA's website. Any thoughts? Thanks again for all your help! PasoGunner
  16. Well after adding up my build sheet, a BOBRO or LaRue mount is kinda out of the question! I did buy the lower jig, new drill bits, and an upper vise block but still! DAMN! The Warne QD rings I think are the ticket. I want to buy them with the SWFA scope to save some shipping costs. I am not 100% sure which rings to order. I know the scope is 30mm tube. I hate to ask but would you be able to share a part # for the Warne QD rings? Sorry I ask, just don't wanna do the "trial and error" deal. I realize it's a fine time to get cheap! That being said any info would be great! I just laid all my build parts out and this rifle will be sweet! Thanks to all the help everyone. I will do a "Build" post with pictures when I'm finished! PasoGunner
  17. Thanks for the scope mount advice. I can't see myself ever needing to remove the scope but I like the idea of the QD for some reason. I will do some research on the ones you have suggested. Thanks again, PasoGunner
  18. I just ordered an Aklys Defense MOJO Magnum for my LR308. I'll let you know. It's not one I've seen before and they are making me a one off to remove the external can threads since I live in KommieFornia
  19. I'm hoping the ALG ACT trigger will be as good in my LR308 build as they've been in my AR15 builds. Best $60 bucks I've ever spent on my rifles! PasoGunner
  20. I order from Ares Armor all the time takes maybe 4 or 5 business day. Building an LR308 on the Ares Armor 80% billet signiture lower! It's gonna be a BEAST! I just ordered LPK from Fulton Armory without the trigger for $49 bucks. I have the CMMG LPK but have heard some horror stories. Fulton seems like people are very happy with!
  21. For me in KommieFornia it's worth it to do an 80% lower. DROS fees, tax and all the other crap makes lowers not cheaper. Also being able to build it myself so Gov. Moonbeam can't take it is an added bonus! I would love to "Escape CA" but my career makes that very dificult. Until I escape 80% lowers are the way to go. I've done 6 AR15's on 80%ers and am milling my 1st LR308 lower from Ares Armor as soon as I receive my Fulton Armory LPK!
  22. Well after reading posts about CMMG lpks I just ordered the Fulton Armory lpk. I hope it's the way to go. Will be installed in Ares Armor 80% billet signiture lower.
  23. Well just in case I purchased the Fulton Armory LPK without trigger. So I'll wait and install it. I think Red Barn will take the CMMG kit back or I may toss it in my parts bucket to use the springs and such in an emergency. What scope mount would you go with for the SWFA 16X scope? I was gonna go 12x but I'm not getting any younger so may as well have too much scope than not enough. Thanks to you all for your help!
  24. D.R.D, That's news to me. I went that route cause I didn't want the triggers or grip that came with most other LPK. I wanted a kit from Ares Armor but they were out of stock. They said any DPMS LPK would work. I will test fit everything before I install it permanently. Do you have another LPK in mind? Thanks, PasoGunner
  25. I love the ACT trigger in my AR15'S that why I went with it for this build. That way they all have similar feel.
