  1. here is what i will do: mount the scope lower if you can help it, use the fat wrench, use lock tight and last but not least, you might want to think of buying a different scope that can take the 308 recoil. think vortex..
  2. agreed!!
  3. great question to a simple answer, it won't work. i called samson and i spoke with a tech. They sell a proprietary barrel nut part number "DPMS-BN" because my original thought was to use, like you said, a proprietary barrel nut that gives me the flexibility to use different ar-15 handguards. the tech simply said that the threads on the G2 are different than the LR generation. which brings the subject of why gen 3 pmags don't function properly on the G2's, that's a whole different thread that i started..DPMS claims that the G2 platform is the thing of the future but i think they made it a little complicated. my opinion only.
  4. because magpul redesigned the pmag to the gen3. the gen3 follower doesn't reach or sits lower than the previous pmag and it doesn't engage the bolt catcher all the way. i have the same problem. luckly i found a local gun shop that still carries the old pmag with the black follower. the older design works flawlessly with the g2
  5. so after ton of research and wasting money on finding a handguard for the G2 hunter, i finally got to the conclusion that only 3 companies make a handguard for the G2 platform specically. so don't waste your money before you read this thread.. yankee hill, samson manufacturing corp and midwest industries.. the problem with this platform isn't the handguard itself, it is the mounting point. I am referring to the barrel nut and the threads. i went with samson. so let's talk about samson manf. corp. If you own a G2 HUNTER and you decide to go with SAMSON, along with the hanguard you will need to take your barrel nut off and swap it with this one:"DPMS BARREL NUT PART NUMBER F310043" that's all you need to install your new handguard. otherwise it will not work. here is the finished product along with the new barrel nut installed. I went with samson "km-evo-g2-15". the total install cost me 295$
  6. i started a similar thread... yup i have the same problem check out the solution check my last post
  7. just wanted to close this thread. after ton of research, help from this forum and going back forth with my gunsmith and of course dpms, I pretty much figured what my problem was. PMAG GEN 3 don't function properly in the DPMS G2 platform. I found this local gun shop who still carries the old PMAG with the black follower for 22$ and guess what, it functions flawlessly. the rifle cycles properly and locks with the last round. i couldn't be happier. i bought 10 pmags from him and tested everyone. no problem at all. that's the story if people want to use magpul mags in the G2 platform. the PMAG G3 no GOOD. Until we wait for the fix from magpul because DPMS are not going to alter their design to work with magpul obviously. OR some aftermarket company redesigns the bolt catcher for the G2 platform... thank you all
  8. i will call DPMS to find out if the g2 hunter is low or high profile.
  9. check this out https://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/popup.cfm?ignoresite=yes&type=i&id=products/308id_p.jpg
  10. you are 100% right and i agree but here is what threw me off. i found this on the midway industries website.... https://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=2523 in red they say "designed specifically for the dpms g2 rifle" what is so specific and different that manufacturers are designing for the g2.
  11. i doubt it. i have been looking all day and it seems that a handguard has to be specifically for the g2 dpms rifle. the only one i found so far is made by midwest industries. then, the high and low profile kicks in..
  12. i want to swap the carbon fiber handguard on my 308 dpms g2 hunter. what aftermarket handguard fits? i want a freefloat handguard with some rails since the carbon fiber has no options for accessories...
  13. i just got off the phone with dpms. the guy said pmags gen 1 & 2 work fine. gen 3 however the design was changed on the follower. it doesn't have enough material to engage the bolt catcher.. according to him, magpul is working with dpms on a fix. keep in mind this issue is only with gen 2 dpms rifles. so i will wait for the fix and for the time being i will just manually pull the charging handle between magazines..
  14. correct. so the follower rises a little higher in the mag body. gen 3 the follower won't rise high enough to engage with the bolt catcher. i just got off the phone with magpul. the tech said g2 dpms rifles are not compatible with pmags gen3. thats the only flaw. he said that dpms might have a fix..
  15. or maybe replace the bolt catcher to some other one?
