  1. Dying for a 327 or 329 right now, the 329 kind of makes me chicken admittedly being a light weight .44 magnum. Anyone have either?
  2. Yeah, I'm definitely getting that vibe out of this deal. I'm getting the idea that it likely used its own PN for the gas block, and that without such a gas block I'm probably not getting much to align.
  3. Let me post some pics and measurements. It is an aftermarket upper, but I've looked at CMMG and they certainly did make this height among others. As far as I can tell DPMS has done 4 styles, a low, modified low (something like 60 thousandths difference) the Sportical height and an even taller height still. The height from bore center comes out to roughly 1.62 with the height from the lower mating surface to the top of the flange approx 2.37. As a point of reference an AR-15 flat top's rail height above bore center is 1.250. This means that you're talking .37 to make up. Looking at UTG's site (no pun intended) They have a 1.38 front as their standard and the "gas block" height is 1.66. That is .280. That still leaves me a full blown tenth too low, which may be serviceable with an aftermarket "tall" post or just adjustment depending on what range/velocity/whatever I calibrate to. PS:pardon the high precision measuring equipment.
  4. Hence the reason I said to check and validate whether or not it's happening.
  5. Personally on my 5.56 I don't sweat the cannelures. I load to mag length because of my chamber and would load longer if the mag were longer (don't do this without measuring rifling engagement.) That means it's typically seated above it. The neck tension of the case should hold the bullet. You can check by measuring the COAL, ejecting, chambering the round and measuring again.
  6. I have a brace of 66es and love em. Definitely my go to handguns. That said the EAA Witness is on the "well maybe I'll buy it one day" list. They made a .38 Super version in polymer at a point, I think that would be interesting in a carry gun. The .357 Sig seems like a compromise to me and I like the idea I can reload the Super easier since it's not a bottle necked case.
  7. On my AR-15s (YMMV) I used the JP Reduced Power Springs, bobbed the hammer (cut the "spur" off that's an appendix from it's full auto design) and did the grip screw mod. Basically you take a tap and tap all the way through the grip screw hole so you can put a 1/4-28 set screw in and remove the takeup from the trigger. Put some blue loctite on it, adjust it and you're good to go. I also did a minimal amount of polishing on the trigger (basically to remove the machine marks) and left the sear alone. This was on a CMMG parts kit, I'd get the ALG Enhanced for a few bucks extra and skip it probably. It's not a $300 trigger but it's a lot better than stock at a not $300 price. Another budget option is a Rock River National Match Trigger. Supposedly you can pop the pin in one, put an AR-15 bolt catch spring in the disconnector and it reduces the weight significantly however I haven't gotten there yet. I've seen those for under $100 before. That said I actually think I prefer the single stage above, although admittedly I'm far from a trigger snob.
  8. okay, so I bought a lower and upper from American Made Tactical and the upper is a Sportical style. Unfortunately I think they use their own height gas block. I'm doing a tube so I want to do a gas block front sight. I'd be up for a dorito if it's the right height, but a gas block sight is fine as well. Will a "gas block" height sight with an AR-15 railed gas block make everything fit or am I going to be looking for a Sportical height gas block?
  9. Hi all, not a first time AR builder but a first time .308 AR builder. I've got some stuff already and am working on a budget focused rifle. (yes I know a contradiction in terms in this world :)) I'm probably putting stuff together over a long period (say a year) as I can score good deals. I'm still also 100% unsure of caliber, although .243 Win or an Ackley variant is what I have in my mind currently. Other options would be 22-250, 6.5 creed and something unbeknownst to me currently.
