  1. For curiosity sake and me liking to learn. What is it with the ar platform that makes it not like 150gr bullets? My savage hs precesion 308 with a 1:10 twist, 24" barrel was scary accurate. Again, not questioning, just like learning new stuff.
  2. 1:10...and bummer, I was trying to keep recoil down. Will 168 be better? I dont want to go any heavier than that?
  3. So go with an H4 buffer?
  4. Which armalite spring specifically and should i try it first and keep my buffer or do both? Thanks
  5. I built a 308 using a areo precision M5E1 complete 16" mid-length upper and stripped lower. I finished the lower with aero precision LPK, hypertouch 24c trigger. Bolt is aero precision melonite finish with a bcm gunfighter charging handle. Daniel defense stock has an armalite ar10 carbine buffer with an H3 buffer and a Leupold VX3II 4.5-14x40 scope First time shooting it (and an ar rifle) was this morning. 40 rounds of cheap stuff, a few to get on paper and the rest to break the gun in...or so i thought. 30 rounds of handloads followed that didnt shoot any better than Academy Sports monarch 150gr cheap stuff. Handloads were 150gr nosler accubond with ramshot tac powder with charges from 43gr-45.5gr in half grain steps and cci br2 primers. So, all in all i have 70 rounds down the pipe in 5 shot groups and the best group was around 2.5" at 100 yards. I shoot off a leadsled that is ratchet strapped to my shooting table so im pretty much just pulling the trigger. I like to take all the variables out when im testing new loads. Do i need to shoot more to get better accuracy or is something up with the barrel or something else to look into? I come from savage bolt guns. Am i expecting too much from an ar10 style platform. Thanks
  6. ...or am i backwards and need a lighter buffer?
  7. Finally got around to shooting my new 308 build. Upper is a 16" m5e1 with a ballistic advantage barrel, midlength gas system, non adjustable low profile gas block, an H3 carbine buffer and a JP enterprise custom centerless ground and polished operating spring. Each shell consistently ejected between 1 as 3 o'clock. Without messing with an adjustable gas block can i go up to an H4 buffer to help it eject in the proper spot? Thanks
  8. Thanks, ill look into those. I dont put my finger on the trigger till I'm ready to shoot and i dont use heavy gloves, under armor material without the big name.
  9. Yes, that's what i was asking. I ordered the 16" this morning. Now onto searching for a charging handle, 1-1.5lb trigger and stock. Thanks to all
  10. Your right, that was listed under the barrel features. Didn't know there was a difference in the two. Still learning, thanks.
  11. The gas port on the lo pro block is .072...
  12. I'll be using a collapsible stock. Will the setup your using run good with a non-adjustable low pro gas block? Thanks
  13. What buffer/buffer tube setup are you running with the 16" midlength? I've made up my mind on a 16" cmv setup. Thanks for your help, been greatly appreciated!
  14. What about gas system? Aero 16" is mid length, 18" is rifle length.
  15. Am i understanding you right...a 16" will be somewhat quieter with a muzzlebreak vs non-breaked?
  16. I understand but my main purpose will be deer hunting with paper punching on the side so I would rather have a barrel that lasts a long time then match grade accuracy when i dont need it. Don't get me wrong, I practice all the time and make clean ethical shots on the animals that I hunt.
  17. Good advice, had no idea the round count was that big of a difference, I'll go the CMV route. For those who have shot or heard an 18" vs a 16", how much louder is the 16", is it loud enough to jump to the 18" to help tame it for not much more weight difference? I'll be using a hellfire muzzlebreak on it, which I know will make it louder. I know it'll be louder than what I'm used to but I don't want go deaf shooting a deer either...regardless of adrenaline pumping when i see a deer. Thanks to all who posted to help a newb.
  18. Yes, I'll be buying an Aero lower with their LPK, minus trigger group. Gun will be essentially a full Aero minus trigger group, buttstock, buffer tube, spring, buffer and grip. I wont be shooting past 500 yards and that might not even happen, farthest range around my area is 300...hes talking of stretching it out to 500. Main shots on deer will be under 200 yards and with the possibility of one hunting spot out to 350. Thanks
  19. Thanks, ill look into the link.
  20. I'll be using handloads with Nosler 150gr accubond, ramshot tac powder and cci br2 primers. Are aero precision barrels considered reputable? Thanks
  21. Also, which barrel type...416r or 4150 chrome moly vanadium? Ive read the 416r is more accurate due to it being softer allowing the lands and grooves to be cut better. Any truth to that? Thanks
  22. Looking into somewhat building an ar10 in 308 for mainly deer hunting but also paper punching out to 500 yards. Deer will be 350 and under, might try paper out to 500. Looking into a complete upper from aero precision with either a 16" or 18" barrel, (will build the lower). Ive read an 18" is the sweet spot for weight and still keep velocity up for ethical kill shots for deer hunting out to the distance I'm referring to. But the info i read was on a random forums, wanted to some info from the 308 forum. Thanks in advance
  23. Hey guys and gals. New guy (here and to AR's) looking into building a AR in 308 for deer hunting and paper punching out to 500. Looking forward to getting ideas and info from everyone. Thanks, Navistar82
