Done deal, should be at FFL in the next couple days.
-
Thanks for the tip I'll keep it in mind!
-
Excellent news, I've got two on the way. One for the new 308 and one for an older scoped 223.
-
Thanks for the intel guys! Safe to assume the sniper will play well with the AP M5E1 rec?
-
Ya'll still set on the MechArmor CH being the one to go with after your experience with it? I'm leaning toward it or the Raptor. If I'm not off here didn't there used to be a couple different models of the MechArmor 7.62 CH. I only see the TacOps-1 "Sniper" version on LaRue's site.
-
So I've been searching through the threads on these and they look pretty impressive. Sent a pvt mssg to MechArmor and havn't got a reply yet. Most of the threads at least a couple years old. Are these still available directly through the community?
-
Doooh! Real tempted to just pick up the black and add a paint job.
-
AP says they are not anodized under the paint. Are you using cerakote or another type? I don't have an oven that I can use without a divorce.
-
Anyone know if the cerakoted models are anodized underneath or just "in the white". I got this word back from AP customer service, looks like I may get another chance coming up soon. Again with the patience crap . . . . yer killin me smalls! Good Morning, Thank you for reaching out to us. The freedom lowers are not a limited run item but they are seasonal. They are normally released around the 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Veteran's Day. They should be back. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Thanks for sharing this. I always wondered if guys were doing more harm than good over cleaning things.

Ha, any of you one eyed, late night drillers ever try a reamer or dreamer? I've opened up quite a few FAL barrel ports but they are deep inside the gas block so it was better controlled to ream it out. I had one bit snap and had to take it to an EDM guy to have it burned out. Ever since that episode drilling ports gives me the heebegeebies. Safe to assume drilling up the port voids any Criterion warranty?
-
Yeah I guess it's time to get on the horn with Criterion
-
OK took another look. I don't have any ball gages but with my calipers I get a repeatable .079" on the gas port. Seems a little on the small side doesn't it?
-
I hear you washguy, I hope it doesn't end up too heavy. After building a few dozen FALs I would bet it would be lighter than that system, but it can add up fast. It will be a while before I get the upper/lower etc together and test her out COBrien, but I'll keep ya'll up to date on how she does. Looks like the ADM hybrid is pretty close in weight unless the spec I saw was goofed up. I'm not sure what to expect with the gas system but I have long term plans for a couple cans in my future. I am hedging my bets on the adj gas block. Probably not required? We'll see. 98, I followed your guidance on the recoil system. I'll have to recheck the port size. I tossed my calipers on the port but don't recall what it was. I want to say it was only 80 thou ish but I'll double check. I know that the FAL with a full size barrel liked 98 thou but I remember some that chopped to 16" having to open it up a bit. IIRC gunplumber gave a top end size of about .125" before they started shaving. Have others had to open up these Criterion 16" barrel ports much? The FAL is a different beast but it wouldn't surprise me if they were close in required gas. Of course FAL isn't a DI system though.

Unfortunately I've got none of it! Thanks to the info ya'll have left around here I'm well on my way. I've got a pile of parts now and a few more to get ordered before I can cobble this boomstick together. Here's where I'm at: Parts in house: BCG Toolcraft DLC coated Barrel Criterion SS nitrided hybrid 16" rifle gas Muzzle CMB-Q6 GB SLR Sentry 7 Recoil assy Armalite kit # AR10REKIT01 Strange that this kit came with an ambi looped end plate? I hope the rest of the kit is right, I ordered this directly from Armalite. Barrel finally showed up tonight, so out the the shop I went. Headspace checked out good so I'm killing time till the builder kit I want is back in stock. Waiting on: LaRue MTB-2S trigger backordered To order: BCM Mod3 CH AP Freedom M5E1 Mlok 15" builder set AP LPK Want another Bobro mount and Strike Eagle 1-8 for optics Pmags and/or Lancers Still to decide on: For the stock and grip I'll just use some other parts I have on hand. Probably just a CTR and K2, but those SOPMOD stocks look comfy.
-
Funny I called these guys first and they've got nothing in stock from what they told me. Everyone online is baiting me with sales on these . . . but they have no stock. Makes me wonder if the price will mysteriously change when they do get some stock?
-
Availability for the one I'm hunting for doesn't look too good. AP FDE Freedom Mlok 15" M5E1 builder set seems to be long gone or my search foo is weak. I think this may have been a one time production run? Anyone have a line on this set?
-
WOW that American Sniper's Org set in beautiful! I am very interested in the freedom set. Kicking around FDE not sure if any are still available but I'm on the hunt. Sounds like I'm barking up the right tree with AP
-
Perfect, sounds like a good way to go. Thanks for the info . . . again!
-
Question about the builder sets I see from AP and Mega. Are these actually "matched sets" as in matched up for a tight fit between the upper/lower? Or are they just a standard upper/lower sold bundled together as a set? Would you expect a tight fit between any upper/lower from the same manufacturer?
-
DOOHHH, roger that. Reading is new to me! I'm only 48
-
Yeah that's the conclusion I'm at. Not enough info. I originally saw a video with a guy building with it and he had no issues for over 1k rnds. Then he swapped with a Lantac without any explanation. Can a quality bcg be had under 3 bills?
-
Did some searching around and don't see anything mentioned here about these. Has anyone built with this bcg? If so, what do you think? New builder here trying to not spend $300 on a quality bcg if I don't have to. Thanks
-
I'm really not as nuts as I sound. One is for a long range 5.56, one for the 300 that's rolling together now then the third is for the 308 in the plan. I'm looking forward to being designated to work the following 4 weekends. So there will be plenty to go around. When the boss is forcing $$ into your hand . . . what's a gunnut to do?
-
Yeah, being a WA lifer I'm used to it and heavily invested in GoreTex. Thanks for the head's up on the LaRue triggers on sale. Just shot the wad on 3, what a great deal!
