  1. I agree I could fix but I really don't have the equipment to torque that barrel extension on correctly. So I am going to let BA handle the situation.
  2. It happened when timing the muzzle brake, I am sure you know what that is. I always tighten the brake and back off then tighten and back off, when doing this, the barrel suddenly started to rotate, that's when I noticed that the barrel extension came loose. I know this isn't suppose to happen, you can clearly see in those pics, which I took right after I took off the barrel nut. The barrel extension has no lock-tight or anything on it. The threads where oily, I have never had this happen before out of countless upper builds. I am just sharing this, to show that quality has really slacked here lately on firearm parts. This supposed to be a good barrel company. Again trust me, it did happen when I was timing the muzzle brake, not making this poop up. I also always use aero-shell barrel nut grease on all my threads even the muzzle when installing the brake.
  3. I have been building ARs for decades now and I have never seen this before. Just look at the pics they tell the whole story. The barrel extension unscrewed for the barrel when timing the muzzle brake. This is a Ballistic Advantage 16" .308 TACTICAL GOVERNMENT MIDLENGTH AR 308 BARREL, MODERN SERIES barrel. I have contacted the place where I purchased this from and BA also. I thought I should share this. I know for a fact that this isn't suppose to happen.
  4. I have done research on all the information you provide, thank you again and I found the system that I am going with, I will use the Aero M5 kit but modify it when needed with the Armalite heavy buffer and spring. I also have a left over Springco spring from the first build that I can use with that Armalite buffer. If this doesn't work the Aero M5 kit will be removed and the Aramlite buffer kit will be installed, since I order that one last night as well when I discovered that information in the postings on this forum. Thank you again, and yes I am a gunsmith that is more familiar with older firearms and pistols. When learning one has to learn to crawl before one walks. I thank everyone for all the information and I will post results on here of this current build. I have also discovered that some of those post covering this subject were several years old, and most of the products that were mentioned in those postings are no longer available, or at least with my searching I couldn't find any in-stock anywhere. Thank you have a great day.
  5. Okay, sure I have read that posting you gave me like 3 times now and I am not sure how we got on the wrong page. I am just going to build it like I did the first one which after some tweaking ran like a champ. I have several different buffer tubes and buffers to try in this new build and I am sure I will figure it out just like the first build. I get what your saying the 3.8oz buffer wasn't designed to run in the AR 10 pattern of rifles, I get that the correct weight should be 5.4oz. I don't even use a stand buffer in my AR15 builds I use mostly the Spikes T2 buffer in all my AR 15 builds with the standard carbine spring and they run at an ejection pattern of 3-4 o'clock. Now since I am new at the Ar10 platform is the ejection pattern the same for it as the AR15, I was educated that with the AR15 in 5.56 NATO the ejection should be around that 3-4 O'clock ejection, is that the same for the AR10? I currently have looked at this setup as well for this current build KYNSHOT - Hydraulic Recoil Buffer for AR-10 with collapsible stock (3.25"). I am also considering the Tubb buffer spring also. I have noticed that all current buffers for the Ar 10 rifle seem to be that 3.8oz, and most keep stating to get that Tubb buffer spring.
  6. I am a certified gunsmith but took most of my training in just that 1911s, older firearms as well. I have always been more into custom bolt action and older style firearms like lever actions, shotguns, and the AK 47 rifles. While taking school one course got me into the AR pattern rifles, and I have built several Ar15s but now I am learning on my own since I want to start putting more modern firearm knowledge like the AR-10 platform of rifles, and yes I agree that they won't change the industry stand, I want to come up with a better standard and start possibly in the future making my own designed AR-10 rifles along with 1911s and other platforms as well. I looked up that Tubb CWS system on Brownell's and Midway USA and they have been discontinued. I have even tried his website and he no longer sells the Tubb CWS system. That is why I asked what is currently on the market today for these rifles. All that is on his website are AR10 buffer springs. I also agree that I am not Mr. Stoner or John Moses Browning or any other just upcoming gunsmith with ideas and that is what started the firearms industry we have today Ideas. My instructors are at this time no longer available since I have been graduated for about 2 years now. This is why I decided to start another Ar10, cause the AR15 platform of rifles in all its glorious calibers got boring.
  7. Also, what would you recommend on my current build, I read that posting and saw several different buffer types, I would like to keep the adjustable stock setup. Thanks for all your advice.
  8. Thanks for the information, I will be looking into this. I agree, I would really like to get a set standard for the .308 rifles. I have been thinking about this all through gunsmithing school on what direction to go with getting a set standard for these rifles. I would really like to hear if you have any insight on what you think the industry standard should be for the AR10/L4-308? I would like to get this pattern heading towards the Ar15 when it comes to parts and specs but of course at a larger scale. Thank you again for all the valuable information.
  9. Please enlighten me on my folly, with my first build I tried rifle, carbine from a few other manufactures and the rifle cycled like poop, then I switched to the Aero Precision M5 enhanced buffer kit and it ran like a champ, so please let me know your wisdom good sir, thank you.
  10. Thank you, and I agree that there is NO standard for these rifles, and I think that there should be. Like with my first build, it was a Frankenstein of a build with a mixture of both Armalite and DPMS parts that I was surprised that it even worked, but it did and well. Now this new build having going with what I would call a better barrel manufacture, BA barrel, now having a standard gas tube setup over the BCA barrel using a Armalite gas length setup. I am at this time if I would do another build in like 6.5 creedmore I will be going with BA barrels due to the use of standard AR 15 gas tube usage. I did measure but when I did I looked at the wrong set of measures, I had the measurements wrote down for the first build on the gas tube length and wrote the ones down for the BA barrel in the same gun journal I keep for my gunsmithing logs for my own builds, and I looked at the wrong measurement and ordered the Armalite tube instead of the standard mid-length tube, lucky I had a standard mid-length gas block and tube laying around and used that instead. I love having extra parts laying around. Here is so far my parts list on this build. Upper: Aero Precision M5/ with Aero M5 upper kit Lower: Aero Precision M5/ with extended take down pins Buffer kit: Aero Precision M5 enhanced buffer kit BCG: Guntech .308 BCG/ Recoil Technologies .308 BCG Barrel: Ballistic Advantage 16" Modern series government profile Muzzle brake: Strike Industries Jcomp 2 Gas block: Aero Precision .750 low profile gas block with mid-length Aero gas tube Magpul K2+ grip Magpul ACS-L butt stock Handguard, Just Rails 15" light weight M-lok high profile HG Trigger: Larue Tactical MBT 2-stage flat faced trigger Set of headspace gauges from Brownell's
  11. Well, I was on here back in 2019 and I built a AR-10/Lr-308 and at that time I used a 16" Bear Creek Arsenal barrel. Well this time I used a Ballistic Advantage 16" Modern series Government barrel. Things changed with the gas tubes from the first build to this new one. On the BCA barrel I had to use a Armalite Carbine gas tube, cause the standard mid-length gas tube was to short. Now with the BA barrel I have notice that they use the stand AR 15 mid-length gas tube size, I got a Armalite carbine gas tube and it was way pass the cam pin location in the upper receiver, now with the standard AR 15 style mid-length gas tube it was right in the middle of the cam pin rotation area in the upper receiver. I think that BCA uses Armalite gas measurements and BA uses standard. Now has anyone else noticed this, cause when building this new Lr-308, using Aero M5 upper and lower set, with the only BCG that I could find from a buddy a Guntech BCG, that had the wrong gas rings installed on it and I got it for a steal, I am hoping when I get the handguard this week and after installation of the HG, that it will headspace correctly, this time I got a set of 308 Winchester headspace gauges. I am crossing fingers that this Guntech BCG will be gtg.

  14. I had issues with my Springco Orange buffer spring, so sent in back for refund. I went with the Aero M5 lower & went with all Aero M5 parts kits including their buffer kit, that shots well ejects evenly at 3O'Clock. With the Sprinco spring it would eject at 1ishO'clock. I would also have the same issues, stove pipes double feeds etc. I also got the Armalite carbine spring, for my Mid-length gas on my barrel, I did go with a standard AR 15 midlength gas tube but it was really short in the upper. After going to the new parts & haven't had any issues.
  15. What's the number of layers to tell if it's out or gtg. Just curious I might try this. Would name tag labels work?
  16. Well thanks for all the information, I guess you can say I got lucky & got some quality parts. It still gives me a relief that it didn't close on the Field gauge. I knew I should have just got the set. Upon looking at my order from Amazon It did say No go gauge on the discription of the gauge that I was supposed to get. Oh, well. So would it matter now if I got a No go gauge & still checked it?
  17. Thanks for the info. I really didn't think that there is much difference between the AR15/AR10, Lr-308 when it came to head spaceing the rifle. I am glad though that the field gauge didn't close, but I would like to still use a no-go gauge, just for peace of mind.
  18. I was told that since I have several hundred round through it that a field guage would be needed. I guess you learn something new daily. Also to check as I shoot to make sure headspace stays true. I guess I could trade it for a NO-go gauge. I guess though since I didn't gauge it after I built it, since I thought it was like the AR15 which I have never headspaced any of those builds either. Oops. So am I still go to go since it didn't close on the field guage or should I still try a no go just to make sure.
  19. I got a foster field gauge, I tried it out & it doesn't close on the gauge, I have about .20" space when BCG goes forward, even tried to use the FA to push it gently to see if it would go. Nothing solid lock up at that .20" gap. (see pics) I went with a field gauge cause when I build it I didn't head space the rifle before firing. I got around 300+ round I think through this, my note book I had all my info in on this rifle got wet at the range & was soaked. Couldn't read it, sucked.
  20. Sad thing is, the last count showed that only 22% of the Population of the US owned the 400 million firearms in this country. That means there is only 77 million people owne them. There is far greater numbers now that want to take them away. I am not sure how real the new on Fox has been of late, but they just said that 56% of the American people want a assault weapons ban. I say bullpoopy, but not sure what to really believe anymore from the media. Also back in the 70's there where 42% of the population that owned firearms. So what changed, well more laws, more gun free zones & more liberal brainwashing in our schools in the last 3-4 decades since then. I do find it awesome that Texas did add pro gun laws to their books allowing more people to carry in areas that where gun free zones, only unless the place of buisness allows it.
  21. Damn didn't think of it like that! Thanks
  22. I have sold 2 guns so far to build this beast, sold my Ruger PC 9 carbine yesterday & prior to that my 5.56 AR pistol build, that I really barely shot since I got my 14.7" PSA FN line AR 15. Sold when I was with her my Tangfolio 9mm pistol & my 16" 300 blackout rifle, it was a Anderson that I got dirt cheap. I made money on both but really didn't want to sell them. Hell my first relationship of 14 yrs prior to this one, I bet she had me sell well over 20+ pistols & rifles the 14 yrs we where together, she would hide the bills from me, mess with my account & her's & stop auto payments, let bills get behind while I am working 50-65+ hours a week. Damn women, why cannot I find one that likes guns, lol😁
  23. Yeah it's kinda sad but I think that this Lr-308 build was the start to the end of my last relationship. She was more a liberal than I thought, suddenly wanted me to stop, well slow way down on my guns, not build any or shoot as much, so I took my b-day savings and built this 308. I still paid all the damn bills since she wasn't working at all 90% of the time we where together. Oh, well I think the gun Gods for saving anymore misery with her. I got a nice shooting rifle on a budget that I think looks good & shoots well. Thinking about rattle can painting it a cammo for hunting, since that's what I want to do with it. I did get a different stock also from that MOE stock upgraded to the Magpul ACS stock, like how it balances out the weight of the rifle & gives me a better cheek weld on the rifle.
  24. Buffer is the Aero M5 buffer & spring kit, this one/https://www.primaryarms.com/APRH100158 Have this spring on it's way https://www.primaryarms.com/sprinco-ar10-orange-extra-power-carbine-buffer-spring to try with the standard buffer that came with the kit. barrel has the Armalite carbine gas tube installed, barrel is a mid-length gas? .750" Aero Precision gas block. Muzzle device is the Helius Tactical 1776 brake using a jam nut for install. BCG is this https://www.acmemachine.com/components/bolt-carrier-groups/acme-ar-308-ar-10-mil-spec-7-62-complete-bolt-carrier-group-nickel-boron/ with a this gas ring installed https://www.primaryarms.com/jp-enterprises-enhanced-one-piece-gas-ring-308 Got these standard gas rings on the way/ https://www.midwayusa.com/product/624588/dpms-bolt-gas-ring-lr-308 I am not liking the Jp cause they don't hold the weight of the BCG, Jp stated that it won't stand up on this gas ring when installed. I have read the best one's to get are these DPMS rings got a set of 3 coming. I am not sure if that shorter gas tube could have been causing the gas rings to get beat up quicker or higher heat. I did notice that the gas is different with the new Armalite gas tube, not as much coming back, I do notice in my videos that the BCG is coming back real hard, the ejection pattern though is right at 3'O"clock so I'm hoping that I can keep that with the new spring. Might have to get a H or H1 style shortie buffer. Thanks for the help. Any other spec needed let me know. Some pics of the last target & the new items installed recently.
  25. I got one of the BCA 16" mid length 416 r stainless heavy barrels, it shoot good for me, I really haven't got the time to play around with any high performance ammo for it yet, did try some SP 150 & 180 grain. Seems to like the steel case ammo the most, shoots the 140 grain wolf Sp real well & the 150 grain Tulammo 308 win well also. Using a Helius Tactical 1776 muzzle brake, works better than some of the other options I've tried, still jumps around a bit, thought about messing around with the buffer & spring to help smooth it out more, just not sure what spring & buffer combo to go with yet go several options.
