Thanks for the kind words. Hoping I am nearly smart enough to get all together and functioning properly. ๐ค

Ended up getting another gas tube from Loth-AR So, I picked up some kitchen scales..... I have weighed all available components on hand and with stated weights of Gas block & BCG. 7.01625 pounds dry with no scope mount or optics. Was hoping for less than 8 pounds with optics. Will need to get creative.

Trigger received. LaRue MBT2s. SLR gas block ordered. BCG ordered as well. Could not resist. Karen from Cryptic Coatings is AWESOME!!! Plugging away at the parts list.

Planning a SLR titanium adjustable gas block. They appear to have TWO different options. .400 or .450 spacing. Which is better? Or is the gas port the determining factor? Guess I should get some measurements. LaRue MBT2s on the way. BCG. Nothing yet. MWS is out of lightweight .308 BCG's. Guy there said would not have any for EIGHT MONTHS!!! Was looking at VSeven or Cryptic Coatings Titanium BCGs. A lot of monies.....

Yes. That nylon tipped set screw thing. The threads are very loose on mine. I had bought the Aero standard M5 build set wuth 15 inch hand guard. Here it is mocked up without the barrel nut. I did verify my Tapco AR wrench will work on the Aero barrel nut. Only thing stopping me at this point is lack of trigger, gass block, BCG, and....... oh- some money to buy all that with!๐

Thanks for the heads up on the gas tube length. I will start measuring.

I received more parts on Friday. Mainly the Aero Carbine buffer complete kit, SLR dimple jig, and Faxon barrel. No time like the present so I started putting the lower together. Do you suggest Lok-tite on the nylon tipped set screw in the lower? Seems like it will back out easily. Need to get some measurements of gas block area and order the correct SLR adjustable gas block. Anything to watch out for or to consider while doing so? Need the gas block, trigger group, and BCG. Oh, some return of cashflow to..... Was figuring a light titanium BCG. Good grief, they sure do not give those away. ๐คจ MWS is out of their BCGs. Said 8 months before restock. ๐

Got some things ordered. Radian Raptor charging handle. Aero Precision buffer kit. Geissele 308 action rod. Have a Faxon Match Series- 18" Heavy Fluted, .308 WIN, 5R, 416R, Nitride, Nickel Teflon Extension "in the cart" but have not hit full send yet. Concerned it may be a little heavy? This rifle is build is going for accurate medium range deer hunter. Thinking SLR adjustable gas block. Looking at lite BCG and as many 2A titanium parts as possible. Does that Faxon barrel com dimpled?

Zeroing in on barrels, triggers, gas blocks, and such. Mission First Tactical Minimalist stock going on the back. Magpul MIAD grip. Wondering which Ambi safeties work with Aero Precision M5 lower from your experiences?

Nice Bertha! Thank you for the real world numbers on the weight. Is that a Pencil barrel? Interesting 2 piece scope mounting. Does that save weight in the long run? Certainly gives more variation for mounting different optics.

Build kit received! I will defer all questions about further products until I pay off the credit card.

So I leaped before I looked when I ordered the Aero Precision build set with a 15 inch handguard? Should have gotten at 12 inch for at 16 in barrel? The 15 inch is 4 oz more than the 12. Does the 15 in handguard still work with 16 in barrel?

Distance will be max 400 yds. Mostly less than 200 yds in white deer hunting situations. I have been researching barrels. Was zeroing in on Faxon Match Series- 18" Heavy Fluted, .308 WIN, 5R, 416R, Nitride, Nickel Teflon Extension. 2.25 lbs it say. My .223 is a rifle length gas system with a rediculously heavy 20" stainless bull barrel. You say Mid length 16" in .308 is doable at 800? The Faxon 16" barrel of the same was .22 lbs lighter. ๐ค Back to the drawing board. I am clueless at this point and can use all the real world guidance possible. Since I went FDE build set- does anyone make FDE lower pin kits? Was looking at Aero Precision's LPK w/o FCG or grip. Did not see FDE option there. Black pins would not look terrible. Just wondering.

Certainly something to consider. My gut tells me to always get the longest barrel possible. Then getting it in the field and hefting it is when the belly aching starts. Alerted my FFL today. Spoke with Aero Precision. The dance of obtaining the dang parts has commenced.

New venture into to the .308 realm. Have built one .223 from parts so far. Took advantage of the Labor Day sale at Aero Precision. M5 builders kit with 15 inch Mlok hanguard in FDE was purchased. The M5E1 was out of stock by the time I was alerted to the sale. Not sure if I will regret the standard M5 builder set over the other. I am in NY so it will be a compliant build. May want to take it whitetail deer hunting if weight can be somewhat limited. Thought real hard about doing a 2A Xanthos build and carbon hand guard build but chose this set up. Will have to make a decision about thumb spur with functioning mag release or fix a mag permanent. If I choose pinning the mag, it might end up a 5 round to pass NYS DEC hunting regs. So I need the lower parts, trigger, barrel w/nut, bcg, charging handle, stock, scope mount, optic, mag/s, and everything I forgot or don't know about. Also the courage, know how, advice, and patience of experience from you all.

Thanks every one. Mighty kind of you.

Hello to the members. I am new to forum from upstate Peoples Republic of New York. I have one Safe Act compliant featureless AR-15. Thinking seriously about building a compliant .308 caliber AR platform rifle. Want option to hunt whitetail deer with said build. Have other firearms of various makes/models/types all safely stored.
