  1. I was an FFL you can do a corporate wiki search and look me up. I gave you enough info to verify. I did drop the FFL in Sept of 12 after the business sold so I did not deal with the fall out of Sandy Hook. The sum total of my experience with an AR 308 is my POF. That's it. That's why I came here; for the info. I find that most user forums tend to have the practical knowledge of the products they are fans of. This group seams to be no different. It has it''s users that are looking to share info and those looking to pick fights. It's about average in that respect. Now as for the the final build. I plan to take all of the information here digest it, work through the issues and build the guns I want at the end of the process. I'll share the build choices and decisions made and the ramifications of those decisions. I expect that everyone will do the same with my final build product. I have different end goals here. 1. 80% lower with matching upper receiver - should be 7075 aluminum 2. Capable of 1 MOA groups (sub MOA groups would be nice, but I'm not that good of a shooter) 3. Reliable 4. Lightweight as possible That's the goals for the build.
  2. Thanks for the tip
  3. Sorry should have started out here. I'm a small business owner in the Houston area. I don't have a background in the military or guns other an I owned a small gun store that sold. I still get calls from people from time to time since I cannot seem to get Gunbroker to delete my information. I do have a background in mechanical engineering and have built my business using that background. I have written some proprietary software that helps predict in real time the cost of large scale construction projects. You can look us up at Industrial Estimates and Controls in Baytown, Texas (ind-ec.com) I am also the owner of Indo Farms in Tulsa. https://indo-farms.com/ We are currently in an expansion stage upgrading our facility in Tulsa as well as building a new one. We hope to be in Texas before the end of next year as well. I joined up here because I'm building my first ar-308 from the ground up. I own a gen 1 POF 308 piston gun and love it. It has a 20" barrel and I'm able to get 1 MOA groups using my own loads. They are 168 grn Sierra MK HPBT with 43 Grn IMR 4895. I have a ghost gunner 2 and recently ordered a new gg3 and plan to use that on the project. I don't know that I will have a lot to offer, but I do hope to learn a lot.
  4. Thanks for the file. I didn't expect anyone would have the cad files without some serious digging.
  5. any issues with the noreen lowers? How well do the lowers and uppers mate?
  6. But I am So I'll be sticking with the 80% lowers. I have no issue purchasing full kits or completed uppers. I don't even particularly care about the build process itself other than I'm bored and I want to. I own a ghost gunner, and I've done a couple of AR-15 80% and some of the 80% polys just never the 308. 80% is the one condition I am stuck on. Everything else is negotiable.
  7. That's not completely true. I gave my FFL up back in '12 when a lot of the new reporting rules came into effect. There is a rule on the books that states if you purchase 2 or more semi-automatic guns larger than .22 caliber within a 30 day period your name, DL number, Gun Make, Model, and Serial numbers are listed on a form and sent in triplicate 1 to your local CLEO, 1 to the ATF, and 1 to the FBI. Even if you have your concealed carry permit and no background check is required your FFL is still required to submit the report.
  8. I don't trust the government
  9. how do you like those funky front grips?
  10. I didn't think LaRue mad 80% lowers. As far as the cheapest parts goes; that's really not what I'm looking at. The engineer in me wants to go through material specs, bolting patterns, etc. and that was just a starting place.
  11. I have their grip on a couple of guns also. I like them.
  12. So my initial thoughts are to go with the hell fire armory match upper and 80% lower (I'm open to other options) https://www.hellfirearmory.com/AR-10-Parts/AR-10-Combo-Packs?product_id=90 I'm wanting to go with a titanium BCG (need some suggestions here) drop in 1 stage trigger group (I'm used to shooting with one) - how are the CMC triggers vs the Geissele? I'm looking at X-caliber barrels - any info would be appreciated here. http://www.x-caliber.net/ on the handguard I'm completely open to suggestions. This is what i've found so far https://guntecusa.com/product/15-air-lite-series-m-lok-free-floating-handguard-with-monolithic-top-rail-308-cal/ My POF has a magul PRS stock and it was great, but way too heavy. Do any of you have experience with this one? https://guntecusa.com/product/ar-308-cal-m-c-s-stock-multi-caliber-collapsible-stock-w-adjustable-cheek-riser/ For a can I've been reading the about the OSS helix and wanted to see what yall think. https://www.silencershop.com/catalog/product/view/id/4655/s/oss-hx-qd-762-ti/category/11/
  13. those look kick ass. do they make them in 308? or and 80% model?
  14. you can never have too much ammo
