Thanks to all.

In the "fired" position, my LAR-8 has a charging handle that is sometimes tough to get back first time for chambering a round. It's almost locked-dropping the butt of the gun onto the ground sharply is the assist needed to free it every time. Sometimes a jiggle will work. Once the trigger has fallen no such problem. Is this a break-in issue? I wonder where the lockup is, and if I can polish a surface to get rid of this phenomenon. Buster

There are a few of these on GB for 99$. I may get one for my rifle. Thanks to all. Buster

What is the advantage, if any? Buster

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2

Today's post I will call sighting and function firing fun. My LAR-8 Flattop came with a set of cheap folding sights. I didn't realize that the LAR-8 gas block and rear rail are in disagreement for such sights. As I sighted in at 25 yards, you can see from the pic that the first two were high and left. I dialed a click right and raised the front post (no rear adjustment with these sights) and this put me in the 10 and x. When I went back to 100 I fired three rounds. They were all in a 2.5" group but 14" high! As I attempted to dial in the front post it has the indignity of flinging the spring and retaining thinggie heavenward. Good bye then. The LAR-8 Carry Handle sight and front sight are quite dear. I have a set of rings on order from RRA and a scope was my ultimate destination anyway so I may dismiss a bare sighting option for this rifle. Man, the rifle feels great and ran smooth at least for my eight rounds. I look forward to continuing break-in, albeit with a better sighting system. The bolt on the rifle is still wet with the Mobil oil so I will just clean the face, chamber and bore. Then wait on my rings and find some suitable glass. Cheers to all. Buster

Not big money really-they warn you about explosions and such if it is damaged. I'll just put the parts in the butt of the gun. Do firing pin retaining pins ever fail or dislodge under normal usage? Buster

As far as I know, this is a 2013 model. Never fired except for proofing. This is the A4 configuration. Nothing fancy. It came with a set of Sig Sauer flip up sights. So I put them on there. From RRA I have ordered an extra cam pin, firing pin retainer and firing pin. And a set of rings. I have lubed the bolt with Mobil synthetic 40 wt. And its receiver surfaces. I will post up again on this thread, once I fire a group or two. Buster

OK. I got the Mobil 40 and stripped the BCG just to the bolt. All parts well oiled and ready to break in. I now fully understand the cam pin and its relation to the firing pin and bolt body. I went ahead and ordered an extra cam pin, firing pin, and firing pin retaining pin. I will start another post on this rifle after I get some pics. Thanks for all the great information. Buster

OK got the rifle. Flat Top A4 never fired. I need to oil it up-because on a fallen hammer the charging handle all but locks up. I am sure it will become more easily operated once I oil and cycle. Thanks for the info. Will post up the rifle in a day or two. Buster

Well I'll be picking up my manual with the rifle in about 40 minutes. Thank you for this timely and critical clarification. Will post my rifle up as I get familiar with it. Buster

Would you consider that a design flaw? I wonder if RRA emphasizes this warning. Darwin Never Sleeps! Buster

OK-got it from the manual. You got me: HOW OFTEN DO LAR-8'S BLOW UP? Buster

Explain the cam pin.

I will be taking possession of a NOS LAR-8 this weekend. Where do I need to lubricate the rifle before shooting? Thanks in advance. Buster

So the Thermolds are equivalent in quality to the RRA brand name mags? Buster

Here is a GB auction for reasonably priced LAR-8 magazines. They have an RRA logo. The ones on the RRA site have something different. Are these legitimate mags? Are there counterfeit mags out there? This is the only offering of the seller and his feedback is excellent. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/900595455 PD (buster)

I wonder if there is any real difference in durability or reliability. I would think that RRA is well-supported by the manufacturer. I guess what you are saying is that standard AR 10 parts will not work on the RRA. Thank you for this valuable clarification.

Thanks Sisco.

How does the RRA LAR-8 compare with the Armalite AR 10? The A4 configurations look real similar. Any major issues with either> I am shopping. Buster
