  1. One other thing I remembered is the bolt catch does not engage when the last round is fired. I have to pull the charging handle back to engage the bolt catch.
  2. Ok, I have this DPMS AR-10 that fails to cycle occasionally, fails to eject a round, fails to load rounds from a full magazine, the bolt doesn't always close fully, when there is a round chambered you cannot eject the round by pulling the charging handle without a rubber hammer to tap the charging handle repeatedly. I don't think I forgot anything that it is or isn't doing. Someone at the range suggested that I have a headspace problem. I was shooting 7.62x51 and did a little research and found the headspace is different on the NATO round and the 308 so I tried some 308 and had the same issues. I pulled the BCG and dropped a 308 into the chamber and it went in fully and fell out on its own when I turned the barrel up. I did the same with the 7..62 and got the same result. Next I put the BCG back in and let the bolt close then pulled back on the charging handle and there was quite a bit of resistance at first then it released. I found when inspecting the BCG that the bolt fit very snugly in the carrier. As I remember with the M-16 the bolt moved easily and smoothly in the carrier. So, I'm thinking the bolt and the buffer spring are the two problems with this rifle. Have I reasoned this out sufficiently? So, do I replace the BCG and the buffer spring or do some polishing on the inside of the carrier to achieve a smoother fit and salvage that component?
  3. Well, it all started with a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. It was too rusted out to get it licensed so I put it up for sale for parts. I got all sorts of calls low balling me and then out of the blue this call comes in and the guy wanted to trade me a DPMS AR-10 that only had a couple of boxes of rounds shot through it, for the jeep. So, that is what got me started.
  4. Ok, my mindset on the subject got me to retool my collection down to certain rounds for good and no reasons. I bought a Ruger Mini 30 and went over it to correct its problems. It now shoots very well. I figured since SHTF is an eventual reality I would let the enemy resupply me with ammo, hence 7.62x39. I have a Mossberg 500 in 12GA, 3 9mm pistols, a Kahr CM-9 and a Taurus G3C T.O.R.O. which shoot anything I feed them and one that only eats 9mm FMJ. That one is my Walther P-38. I also have 22LR semi with a tubular magazine, a Beretta 70S in 22LR and lastly an AMT Hardballer in 45 ACP. Oh and a DPMS LR-308/AR-10 that I traded an old rusted out Jeep Cherokee for about a week ago. I just fired it for first time today. It has issues that I will have to learn some magic to solve.
  5. Come looking for answers, so I joined the group and hope to find some knowledge about my new AR-10. I am aware that the AR-10 platform is hardly new and I am a veteran with several years experience with the M-16A1. Glad I was able to join and looking forward to learning more.
