mineralman55
Finished up the class last week. It required a lot of time during the week (14+ hours a week), but it was well worth it. I wouldn't consider myself to be a machinist at this stage, but I can spell it.I signed up for a special projects course for next semester. That just allows me access to the shop. Got lots of plans for it!Honestly, everyone should take industrial arts classes of some type at one time or another. At the very least you'll gain appreciation for the seemingly common things around us. In many respects they are not so common.

mineralman55
Awesome! Would they let you finish off an 80% ??Let's not push it.This is an outfit in Houston that sells a mini CNC mill that is designed specifically to finish 80% receivers. I'd consider getting one, but I don't want something like that until I learn to modify it to be a more general milling machine.http://shop.ghostgunner.net/collections/featured-products
mineralman55
Doing some work for the shop making some widgets. I wrote the program, the instructor tweaked it a bit. These are 3/8-16 threads. You'll notice a hint of part deflection half way through. After making these, I made a smaller widget with 10-32 threads. That's a challenge, as the speeds and feeds had to be moderated quite a bit, but it worked well. I tried to film that one but my phone ran out of space :-(.These Haas machines are a blast. med_widget.3gp
