survivalshop
I got the ALG Defense Forged MilSpec Receiver extension & a std Extruded MilSpec Receiver extensions today & am impressed with the ALG Product . There is a slight difference in weight , with the Forged a little heavier , I have no scale that can weigh them & feel it would be an accurate measurement , so I didn't bother . You really can't tell them apart looking at them , just the threads & some slight machining differences . One thing that stood out was the Threads for the Castle Nut , I've not seen any this good , some of the more expensive ones are close , but nothing like this & I am comparing a relatively inexpensive one to it ( $ 22 vs $ 38 for ALG ) , but I have over $ 40+ ones that don't compare to ALG product . You can feel & hear the different Metallurgy between the two , the ALG just feels different & makes a different noise when setting it down or tapping it against some thing . The Nut threads on with no resistance , just better threading . ALG on the right ALG on the left ALG on top has a slight anti-cant compared to the Extruded The ALG on the right Much different packaging This Rec.Ext. is going on my BRO AR 15 build . Quentin
I am also impressed with ALG's quality at a good price. I recently bought a blemished EMR V2 M-LOK rail that's excellent. I can't find the blemish. And I have a few of their QMS triggers. Good stuff! Thanks for the hires pictures, that's a good looking receiver extension. survivalshop
I would like to know how they accomplished the Forging of this . When I was part of a discussion on ARFCOM , most were saying that all MilSec , Receiver Extensions were Forged & stronger then the Commercial ones , because the Commercial ones were Extruded & the threads were cut with a Die , where the threads in the Forged MilSpec were cut on a Lathe or something , I don't remember . My argument was , if they are both Extruded , the Commercial Extension should be stronger , because it had a larger out side diameter then the MilSpec. They are both the same inside diameter , so how can they say the Commercial is weaker . Now it all may depend on material or metallurgy used to make them , I can believe that . I can believe one made of 7075 & the other made of 6061 material , that may be true , but the Forged , I wasn't buying it . This all came about because they say the Commercial Extensions were breaking on Combat courses & some were , but far too many factors involved to just say the type of Extension was the issue . I kept saying I didn't believe it , I kept asking for a Manufacturer to speak up on how they are made & finally one did & said he would custom make a Forged Extension , if someone wanted one , but it would be the cost of a complete lower Receiver assembly . At the time , this was many years ago , that would make them around $ 100 for a Receiver Extension & the MilSpec's were around $20 for a good one . So , ALG Defense must have come up with a more economically procedure to make them . There is another manufacture out there that is also making them , I remember reading about a couple years ago & I forget the price ( I think it was $78 or 68 , I'm old & this happens ), but they were reasonable also , but not this low of price . I have a photo of the Forged Extension on my BRO Lower I will add to this today.
