PRIMER DIMPLES WHEN LOADING

Gentlemen,

  Can anyone tell me why my firing pin is making these dimples when I close the bolt over a full 10 round clip?  :o

  Ammo is german Weichkern.

  This is a LAR-8 Varmint and my first on an AR platform - is this normal?

  I have to believe the spring in the carrier isn't strong enough to overcome the momentum of slamming home.

  Any thoughts suggestions?

Free float firing pin in the RRA, right?  That's what does that.  You can search for any companies that might make a titanium firing pin for the RRA guns - the lighter pin wouldn't have such an effect on the primers, and it wouldn't hurt functioning in any other way.

What brand of primer are you using?  I believe some are softer (thinner cups) than others.  I think CCI #34's are what the military uses.
