Retired JM Posted December 20, 2011 Report Share Posted December 20, 2011 Since there's no gas tube, I'm a-guessing that it's a gas blowback operated upper. Armalite has no info on their website in re the operating system, but the BCG is a CMMG unit and CMMG's own 22 upper is a blowback-type unit. 98Z5V Posted December 20, 2011 Report Share Posted December 20, 2011 Roger - it's truly a dedicated .22 upper, instead of them just sticking an adapter in the AR-15 upper - no gas tube to become fouled and have to clean lead deposits out of. <thumbsup>The dedicated collar on the end of the barrel feeds much better than the older style, with the .223-casing-looking adapter on the front of the .22 "BCG."
