Barrel Nut & Gas Tube Install Questions

Jangles

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Hopefully I will soon be assembling my upper and I have a few questions. I have a Mega Ma-Ten receiver set, a DPMS barrel nut, and an Apex handguard.

I keep reading that you need to line up the barrel nut with the gas tube hole, but I do not see anything to line up. The barrel nut screws into the upper receiver, the gas tube slides into the upper receiver, and the handguard clamps over the barrel nut. Is this all correct or am I missing something?

Here is a photo of the barrel nut on the receiver with the gas tube

Here is a photo of the handguard clamp that goes over the barrel nut, it has an indented section that goes over the gas tube:

So nothing to worry about & everything thing looks correct?

Based on your pictures you look ok to me. Once you pin the gas tube to the block do a dry run to verify 100%.  Once complete it my not hurt to color in the end of the gas tube with a black marker to see how it's hitting the gas key on the carrier. Sometimes you need to tweak the tube to avoid wear. This applies to all builds

Hi Jangles  After I tighten down the barrel with the gas tube installed and the gas block installed(tightened down).

I take the upper with the installed barrel out of the upper claw(vise)...then hold the barrel vertical muzzle down and drop the lubed up bcg/charging handle into the upper and watch it slam down on the lugs proving the gas tube is straight...it prolly wont go into battery using gravity, but it will prove out that the gas tube is lined up  :)  Wash
