IMR 800-X

I purchased a pound of Imr 800-X after reading up on it on Glocktalk and Snipershide. I was looking for a load for my 10mm Auto that would have a higher velocity without too much of a pressure spike. The concensus seems that CCI 300 or CCI 350 primers are the ticket to keep the pressure down. My goal is to have the old school (pre FBI) speed.

The first batch I made with Hornady 180 gr XTP ,Win WLP and 8.7 gr of 800-X {15 rounds}. The second batch has Hornady 180 gr XTP , Win WLP and 9.0 gr of 800-X {12 rounds}. I expect to have velocity of 1200 fps and 1250 fps on these loads. I would like too work up loads up to 10.0 gr and have a speed of 1400 fps. I attached an old load sheet from the early 90's.

Plan on going shooting this weekend and trying out these loads.

I made a batch with 800X for my 40 S&W . Used 1X Win brass,WSP and Hornady 180gr XTP. One round each starting a 5.9gr and worked up a tenth of a grain to 7.0gr. Max load was 6.1 , 6.2, and 6.3gr in three different books. I dont plan on shooting over 6.5gr out of my handgun. Will use this powder to develope a load for the AR pistol caliber gun.

Made loads for the 357sig, used win wsp primers and 1x brass and 1x nickel cases. Coal was between 1.135" to 1.140".

125gr Hornady XTP :

9.4gr of Imr 800x

9.5gr of Imr 800x

9.6gr of Imr 800x

140gr Sierra JHP:

9.4gr of Imr 800x

There were no pressure signs on the cases or the primers. The loads shot well.

I have made loads for 9mm 115gr FMJ's at book max and 0.1 gr less works great in the 9mm AR.

The 40S&W loads at 6.2gr work good in the XD-40's with 180gr Hornady XTPs.

The 10mm vary with the high pressure, temp changes. My Witness cycles 180gr XTPs with 9.7gr no problem. At 9.8gr I can only use CCI 300 primers. At 9.9gr the temp comes into play, 10.0gr and 10.1gr have to be shot on cool days or the gun wont cycle.

Best load so far:

New Starline brass , 180gr XTP, 9.7gr of IMR 800-X,CCI 350 @ 1.260"

Made loads using Hornady 200gr XTP for the 40S&W and the 10mmAuto. Will post results after I shoot them.

Shot two of the 200gr XTP loads out of the 10mm Witness, 1st load worked great . 2nd load was too hot and wouldn't cycle every round, had several jams. I know what the upper limit is for this gun now. I will settle for a load with 8.9gr or 9.1gr of Imr 800X with the 200gr.

I shot these rounds today, no signs of pressure or buldging. all of the rounds cycled well , loaded lightest to heavy. Hit the target at 50 yards with each round.
