Quail hunt surprise

Last Sunday my brother and I took his dog on a quail hunt to an area I heard about from a friend. 
I have been to this area only once before and there is quail but they act strange being as they won’t hold up or fly. They stay just out of range and run the whole time. I don’t think they have been hunted a lot and not sure what to do to get a shot. Needless to say we got skunked. 
Anyway it was a good day spent time with my brother doing what we did as kids, and even ran into a bobcat. I might have to go back for the bobcat lol with my AR
