Gents-  I have an 18" Bull Barrel with the factory flash hider installed.  I am interested in changing it out to something that will compensate recoil a bit better as I've started shooting long range and want to re-aquire my targets quicker.  I'm ASSUMING the barrel is threaded and the flash hider screws on but when I tried to remove it the thing wouldn't budge.  The last thing I want to do is damage the hider or my barrel so I stopped.  Is this common and any suggestions out there?

A set of barrel blocks for a vice are your friend . Do not try to take it off with a receiver block .

It may also have some loc tite on it & may require some low heat.

Should have ether a crush washer ,shim set or peal washer.

It should be threaded , others who own factory rifles will speak up .

Well I finally got it changed out this weekend and it was a bitch.  You are correct, the factory uses loctite on the threads.  It took quite a bit of muscle and more time than I expected but the factory flash hider finally came off.  Needless to say, installation of the new compensator was easy @ that point.
