Thanks for the replies.  I striped the bolt when I checked the head spacing with my gage.  The gages I bought are the Clymer brand and I bought them from Brownells.  I didn't put excessive pressure on the bolt when I was checking it.  I put more than slight finger pressure but I never let the bolt fully drop on the gage.  Hmm.  Seems I may be too tight then.

Syrac adjustable gas blocks are awesome.  I have mine turned down and it dumps brass in a pile at 2 o'clock.
