survivalshop Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) I just ordered a Black Nitrated M16 BCG from Shadow op's & I have been wondering about the finishes on these kind of parts . What with all the treatment types out there which type , really is better for a long lasting system . I have a few that are Chrome , & Phosphate & my newest 308 BCG in NIB , but now the Nitrated . I don't seem to have excess wear on any of them & I have one build that I built in the late seventies , with a phosphate BCG & it has the a little finish worn off , here & there , but still works fine . What happened to Melinite treatment or is that just used on Barrels or is it a form of Nitrated ? I remember the post that had a bunch of different finishes they salt tested ,but since it was from a manufacturer of one of the products , well , I took it as such . Are these new type treatments any better than Chrome or Phosphate ? They really are quite new, to have any kind of a history . Edited October 15, 2013 by survivalshop
