DPMS GII Hunter

I have been searching high and low in Georgia and Alabama for a GII Hunter, and no luck. I have spoken with DPMS through the online question service and been told GII Hunters are made to order, not mass produced. This doesn't sound right to me, seems odd that a new gun shown at the Shot Show as a hunting rifle would not be sent out to distributors. Any insight would be appreciated.
