Brand New LAR8EO - Ripped Rim Off First Round Fired
GS455 replied to GS455's topic in Rock River Arms LAR-8
Huh. I've run many hundred rounds of this NATO ammo through both my M1A and FAL with neither ripped rims nor roughed up brass. May not be the most accurate stuff but and I am not an expert but I can't see how this is an ammo problem. -

Brand new rifle under warranty. I'm not going to touch it. I spoke to the fellow at RR that replaced my trigger group. He is concerned and wants to see the entire rifle (not just the upper) as well as any spent brass I saved. I got a call back from RR less than a day after I sent an email with these pics and description. They are sending a call tag for pick up and are covering shipping back to them. Hat's off to RR for phenomenal customer service - thus far. -
Brand New LAR8EO - Ripped Rim Off First Round Fired

Yea . . . . I don't think wi what this costs and the time I waited I'd entertain putting it in a lathe. Maybe if it was an older used rifle. Gonna be several weeks before I can get to the range again but I would go back using the Thermold mag that came with it and bust out some of the good stuff to break it in further. A few people on another board suggested it was over-gassed as well. Not sure how that symptome is evident or what that looks like. I will probably go ahead and send it back to RR and let them look at this under warranty along with some of the spent brass. We'll see what they say. -

Ooops. reset pics. -
1) Finally got my Virgin Rock River LAR8 Elite Operator out to the range today for function test and roughing in with an ACOG. The VERY FIRST ROUND had it’s rim ripped off failing to extract. This is Portugese Milsurp. Fired plenty in my FAL and M1A wi no previous problems. Fortunately a light tap of a cleaning rod and it popped right out. 2) Cycled a few and had a fail to feed. Stuck angled up from the mag into the receiver. Later I had a couple more fail-to-feeds but I might attribute this to the beat up old metric FAL mags we were using (although never had a problem in my FAL). 3) My curious machinist buddy grabbed a few of the spent rounds and noticed what looked like very light roughening up of the brass as a result of being in the chamber. Almost as though the inside of the chamber was like fine sandpaper. I don't think I've ever noticed anything like this before. Anybody ever see or notice anything like these issued in an LAR8EO? PS: I will say that after a little time sighting in wearing a Trijicon TA11E ACOG I was picking off all small steel targets out to 300yds. Haven’t measure any groups on paper yet. PSII: When I initially received the rifle it had a terrible trigger pull like pulling a tuff spring wi no second stage. Sent it to RR and they had it back in less than two weeks wi a new trigger group. Now its beautiful.

LAR 8 When did you order? When (if yet) did you receive it.
GS455 replied to GS455's topic in Rock River Arms LAR-8
Man I'm sorry. I was a little over a year. Haven't taken it to the range yet but my trigger is messed up. All stiff and spongy. NOT a two-stage "match" feel. They said it would be a six week turnaround. I'll get around to sending it back before too long. -
Would you believe I got mine four months ago and still haven't fired it?
-
It's a 16" barrell.
-
I've only seen pictures of the old one but I actually think I like this one better. Seems leaner. And I don't need all that picatinny. Maybe just the small one under the front so I can try a bipod on it.
-
Yea that case is lame. And you have to dissassemble the upper and lower to use it. Any thoughts of comments on the trigger?

I got the new 1/2 quad rail (err umm 1/4 rail) on mine and did not endure a price increase. Course I had an ACE stock spec'd from the beggining so maybe the newer stock is where the price increase on yours. -
Well I once saw it written in another forum something to the effect of: "I tell my wife our rifles are like Barbie Dolls. We take em out, we dress em up and play with them" Just picked up my LAR8EO and I just had to put it toghether and put some cloths on her. I snatched the ACOG off my FAL. Boy oh boy. I wish I could afford another right now. Now I'm torn between which rifle it should live on. The LAR8EO or my custom Argy FAL I have a folding Troy Rear Di-Optic Aperture (DOA) BattleSight on order. I must say I am fairly unimpressed with the (supposed) two-stage trigger. Initial travel is smooth to the 1st stage but after you hit that it feels like i'm pulling into an ever tesnsion-increasing spring and there is no clean 2nd stage break when the hammer lets go. It kinda lets go in the middle of firm mush. The RRA Thermold mag feels like crap and, of course, doesn't release. I understand you are supposed to file it somewhere and I will look into that but I have plenty of FAL mags . The Mag release is fairly stiff and takes a fair amount of pressure but the FAL mag does drop. Both my ARs release mags much more smoothly. The barrel has a lot of light scuffs all over it that could not easily rub out with a rag. I'll scuff it up anyway just figured it would come clean out of the box. Obviously I need to get her out to the range and feed her plenty of milsurp to break her in and reserve further commentary. Any advice before I light her up for the first time aside from a bunch of CLP on the bolt?

Well if they do, "Unforgiven" is right. Rock River needs to hear about it especially if you have a down payment or confirmation of special-order on your behalf. I was several times a Regional or National Sales Manager and some manufacturers have very strict policies (some do not) about the minimum they can advertise an item for (M.A.P.). At the end of the day (in the US) they cannot force the reseller to sell at a certain price. That's why it's called Manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price. However per their dealer agreement that manufacturer/distributor may rescind special terms, privileges, rebates, advertising co-pay, and discounts. I guarantee as the largest RR Dealer in the US Class 3 probably get's "off-sheet" pricing and/or special conditions and they will NOT want to lose them. At least they were the lowest advertised price I could find when web surfing this rifle. -

Me? What would I talk to them about? No one jacked my price up. Was mentioned by someone else earlier on this thread and the gal at Class 3 had her own accounts of it from oBAMa time. -

My Sales Order was issued from Class 3 Weapons on 4/10/12. I received notice that it was in on 5/16/13. Its supposed to be delivered to my FFL on 5/21/13. I asked Carol about the rumors of dealers getting product in and telling buyers the price went up. She said that they regard acceptance of a deposit and issue of their Sales Order as a contract (which it is) and cannot be changed although back in 08 she definately heard from customers saying that these latent price-hikes were done to them in 08 during the last panic when Obama got elected. -

Did he say who the dealer was? I'm about to lose it. I've been buying nice milsurps just to keep me occupied. here's the latest http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?308516-Yugo-24-47-Good-Deals-Still-Out-There-%28Picture-Candy%29 I keep doing this I'm not gonna have any more room in my safe for a big ol .308 AR. No joke. I actually had to store this one upside down. I like the new forum format. Old one was so busy and had to use. What's the story/explanation? I guess I lost the count of how many posts I had (???) -
Where does this info come from?
