Okay, so, 500/200 is for 5.56. Then what about .308? BTW I am looking at a Magpul MBUS I got for a guy in trade of something else. It's all plastic and the aperture seems moderately loose and wobbly. At first I thought I got the wrong thing like this was for Airsoft or something. Shouldn't the aperture be pretty snug and tight or is this normal?
-
Yea, I shoot my Garand that way. I'm pretty sure my buddy says (re: 30-06) zero your elevation at 50yds and you are good to go at 200 . Is that right?
-
Yea I shoot my Garand that way. I'm pretty sure my buddy says (for 30-06) zero for 50yds and you are zero'd for 200 as well. Is this correct?
-
Huh. So does that mean you zero your elevation for 50 yds (same at 200 ?) and then just learn your vertical holds
-
That's what I thought.l What about the Troy or ARMS?
-
I am admittedly clueless about ballistics and geometry but don't the Magpul MBUS and the MaTech have their clicks calibrated for .223/556 ?
-
Will be looking for a low profile rear flip sight. 1) Rock River seems to recommend and sell the ARMS #40L. ($100+) 2) Troy Rear Folding BattleSight has been reccomended. ($100+) 3) I've seen other-forum folks recommend the Magpul MBUS (Magpul Back-Up Sight) GEN 2 (Around $50) 4) MaTech (only for .556?) 5) Midwest Industries ? I know ARMS is milspec. Don't know about Troy. I don't mind spending a buck. Just want the best within reason. Pros / Cons of either ?Other suggestions ?

On Nov 30th (before the mayhem) I spoke to RR and they were expecting barrels in from Wilson in the next couple weeks. Then they have to freeze em for 2 weeks. So the next batch of LAR-8s Elite Operators should ship out in January. I guess mine wasn't in that batch as someone else said they received theirs in Jan. I am posting this entry by Heffe01 from the "This better be worth it" thread: "Here is what I received from RRA today in regards to the extreme delays in the LAR-8's. We have .308's on order from February of 2012 that are still waiting on components, unfortunately I do not have any type of delivery estimates or updates on the rifles. Our barrel supplier is working as quickly as they can but they do not just supply product for us. Our lead times when given are only an approximate time frame and in no way are any guarantee of delivery by that date, unfortunately many factors can change during the course of time that can delay and cause unforeseen backlogs. This is a reply from an email I sent on Jan 11th, so they are processing through all contacts. So if you are trying to reach them via email, it will be a bit of a wait. " Anyway while I/we twiddle our thumbs maybe we can share our order info as a means of (falsely?) getting our hopes up. My answers in parentheses. Just curious . . . . 1) What model? (LAR-8 Elite Operator with ACE stock) 2) What dealer? (Class 3 Weapons) 3) When did you order? (April 10, 2012) 4) When did you receive it? (Still waiting) GS

Except my FAL and M1A are still two other mouths to feed.
-
Sigh. Well i guess I can look at it this way... At least I'm not burning through my now expensive stock piles of .308 while I wait for my April 2012 ordered LAR 8 E.O.

Armed Eye Doc & Sketch.......... Can I ask who you guys ordered your rifles through? Mine was ordered mid April and I can get no info from RR nor my dealer.

OMG ! I'm in the 11th month of a 9 month wait. RR has basically shut down from providing ANY info and they don't answer the phone just cut n paste standardized "sorry we can't provide any info" emails. And Class 3 says basically the same thing. So given the hysteria is my EO gonna get skimmed off the top of the waiting list to buddies and insiders? -
Holy cow. JACKPOT ! That's exactly what I was looking for . Just had hand surgery so I will view tomorrow when I'm laid out on the couch. You're a regular here. Do you know how to change the boards appearance settings on my profile? The default is all black and very cluttered. Very difficult for me to read and navigate. I'd like to at least lighten it up. Its a very different forum format from most. Can't figure out how to change very many settings. Thanks if you're able to help.

For some this will be a question showing my complete ignorance. Also, not sure where exactly to post this. I have never completely understood the function of different muzzle devices. I'm not talking about silencers or noise suppressors. Rather things called flash hiders, compensators and brakes, etc. What are the definitions of each and what else is out there? I've come across websites selling things guaranteed to keep your muzzle down but may make it louder and may or may not affect flash. Some are open ended twisting "vortex" style. Some are sharp and jagged as though the muzzle could be a weapon. Some of the boutique aftermarket stuff can be quite pricey. I have a couple ARs with the "birdcage", One FAL with a long 5 slotted hider, one in a shorter cylindrical form having a few rows of angled holes, an M1A and M76 with the long slotted style, an AK47 with a fat cylinder and one large hole side to side. Can anyone direct me to a decent explanation of the various muzzle devices and their effectiveness at what they claim to do?

LAR-8 Elite-O. Just Ordered. (Advice: Handguard & Optics?)
GS455 replied to GS455's topic in Rock River Arms LAR-8
I always appreciate relevant, solicited or unsolicited help on forums so I am thankful. I don't want to be rude or untoward but isn't all this magazine talk a topic for another thread? -

I thought abut cancelling several months ago as I saw a nice low mileage one on GB for roughly the same price but I did not want to lose down payment. -

Forgot to order a rear site. Is the RRArms rear peep site a must or will any AR compliant rear site be just as well. -

Yea I decided to leave the order as is. They said it would bump it back a month. The handguard is unique enough and I can't imagine throwing so much lead that fast I'm gonna burn it up. Although I have been known to smoke my AK once in a while ;D Still not clear on how to "hold" the red triangle of the Trijicon. If I sight it in at 50 or 100yds with the tip as center mass how am I gonna know how to hold for 200-300? -
Hey all. Brand new to this forum. I stumbled upon it as I was considering/shopping for an AR in .308. Great topics. I wish there were more traffic. Is this a new forum? I have settled on a Rock River LAR-8 Elite Operator and the order has been in for 3-weeks. It will be delivered with an ACE Skeleton stock. My buddy had a set up like this as a .308 Bushmaster and it was a fantastic rifle to shoot. I’m not a precision, hand-loading, surgical, shot-every-five-minutes kinda guy. I’ll take a lot of time sighting in but I mostly scatter large and small steel plates and clays across 100-300 yards and like to plink away a mag or three at a time (usually MilSurp ammo). It’s not I’m bump or burst firing or anything but I can warm up a barrel. 1) HANDGUARD I’ve never handled one of these. My buddy with the Bushmaster is warning me away from the Elite-O handguards. Says they are thick, unnecessarily weigh on the front end and are very slow to dissipate heat. I’m not mounting any tacti-cool stuff up front except the occasional use of a bi-pod. I may be able to amend the order with a different hand guard option for no charge. Anyone have any thoughts about this? 2) OPTICS I have a Pride & Fowler Rapid Reticule RR800-1 on my M1A. It is an awesome scope. Now, I’m no 600 yd guy but I probably could be with this set up. By far the best glass I have and would probably get another for the LAR-8 (one day). I found a Trijicon TR21-R 1.25-4x (red triangle) I forgot about. A guy sold it to me years ago for a mini 14 years ago. I never “got” the red triangle and really wasn’t that “in” to shooting at the time. Paid $650 back then and I’m not gonna have dinero for another optic for a while. Can anyone advise for/against the use of this on my LAR-8? What’s the philosophy with the red triangle and how do you pick your hold-points when varying distances? I suppose I could have ask these questions in two different posts but . . . what the heck . . . I like multi tasking.
