  1. Thanks guys, I've learned a lot and recieved many helpful hints from this site already. i have this wonderful piece of machinery dialed in, 1" and less groups consistently using only sandbags. I just took off the flash hider and installed a PWS compensator and besides looking mean, the thing actually works! It certainly makes a noticable difference on muzzle rise and I would recommend it to anyone.
  2. Well I finally got it changed out this weekend and it was a bitch. You are correct, the factory uses loctite on the threads. It took quite a bit of muscle and more time than I expected but the factory flash hider finally came off. Needless to say, installation of the new compensator was easy @ that point.
  3. I read an article last night (may have been linked from this site but dont recall) where 2 studies found no difference in velocity from 24" to 20." When the barrel was cut to 18" accuracy stayed the same but muzzle velocity was 32fps lower. They used Federal match grade ammo, I think it was from 2660fps to 2630fps with no accuracy loss.
  4. FYI My factory built LRT-SASS has only numerals in the serial number. I called and talked to a buddy who is currently building his own DPMS and his lower which he purchased stripped does have the 'K'
  5. After reading this entire thread I now realize that my jaw has been dropped the whole time. My next project is going to be a LaRue, hope to order a matched upper/lower in Sept. Great stuff man-great pics--just really really cool.
  6. Agreed about the guy in the vid-I saw that clip a while back when I first decided to join the AR format and was shopping around. IMSHUR-whats your thoughts on the Manta then? Let us know what you think. This was my 1st attempt @ running the pressure pad so as time goes on I'm sure itll improve but all things coonsidered it functions well.
  7. Gents- I have an 18" Bull Barrel with the factory flash hider installed. I am interested in changing it out to something that will compensate recoil a bit better as I've started shooting long range and want to re-aquire my targets quicker. I'm ASSUMING the barrel is threaded and the flash hider screws on but when I tried to remove it the thing wouldn't budge. The last thing I want to do is damage the hider or my barrel so I stopped. Is this common and any suggestions out there?
  8. PMags are great, worth twice the price. I have purchased a few and am planning on purchasing more-I'll never use the factory metal mags again. The PMags just function so smooth you'll never go back.
  9. (sorry I left em zipped) Thanks I love this thing. After going to the gun show a week or so ago I added a folding foregrip and a green laser with pressure pad. I cut back a small section of the foregrip and fastened the pressure pad so it can be actuated by your front index finger yet stay secure. I ran the cord underneath a section of the picatinny rail covers that came with the rifle from DPMS.
  10. Just picked up my new DPMS LRT-SASS from my FFL and I gotta say, she's prettier than I ever imagined. These pics just dont do this piece of equipment justice but take a look.
  11. DPMS makes an item called 'The Wedge' to help eliminate that play but I'm not sure if it works here, or only on the AR-15. I guess theres no reason it wouldnt work. I asked DPMS this same question but they have not got back to me. Anyone else familiar with this item?
  12. Hello-my name is Curt and I am new to both the AR platform and to 308AR. Its nice to see all the helpful advice and information here. I just recently purchased a DPMS LRT-SASS after about a month-long search and decision making process. There are so many varieties of both guns and accessories that its a bit much to take in @ once. I know this forum will prove to be a valuable tool.
  13. Once I decide that a 308 AR was what I wanted I began searching for 308 information and this link showed up on a google search
  14. What a great start, I look forward to additional updates as I am new to the AR platform. I just ordered a DPMS LRT-SASS .308 and am impatiently waiting for it to arrive(should be @ my FFL this week). The prospect of a full dis-assembly and reassembly is a bit intimidating as the AR has so many parts and aftermarket upgrades/customizations. Keep up the good work.
