It doesnt work too good for them around here during hunting season. <laughs>

@ Schwansonite Its the DPMS one that came on it from R Guns. Its tough and rock solid. Here it the most recent pic of the rifle. I added MagPul BUIS (gen 2) and changed the rail covers to a mixed color at the rear and OD green for the ladder types in the front.

I have changed a few things and will maybe change some back or go another way. Thats the best part of the "AR" platform of rifles. there is so many things you can do to customize the rifle. The first Picture is the most up to date and the lower was last week, LOL!! Currently: Last Week; I live in western N.C. so too much of the FDE color really doesnt work good for this area, Mountains and woodlands mostly. The rifle is an LR308 with a 24" Stainless Steel Bull Barrel, Free Floated. It has a free floated Rail with a Tango Down Bipod, A MagPul PRS Stock, YHM flip up BUIS, a 3-35 x 56 scope, an ERGO rubberized grip with shelf, and I use 20 round MagPul magazines. Its wrapped with McNetts Camo Form that dosent stick to the rifle, only itself and I really like being able to change that stuff with the seasons around here if I want. I've been getting 1/4 MOA constant accuracy and the cold bore is exactly 1 MOA low everytime. I really like how it shoots! Let me know what you think?

The MagPul Pmags are all I use anymore. On my Lr308 and on my AR15. In the .308 I only have 5 mags. thats all the room I have on my gear for (4 on the vest and 1 on the rifle) so I just cant rationalize buying a lot more unless those left wing nuts start trying to limit the mag capacity again. then I will be time to sink some serious money into magazines 8)

I finally had to put an A.R.M.S. #22High set of rings on my scope and the rifle and scope are holding 1/4 MOA! I'm happy enough with this scope to leave it right where it's at. Like I've said, I've got a Loopy on my R700PSS and while that is a great scope I'm retired/disabled now and on a fixed income this is a good value for the money. Still liking my scope. <thumbsup> -
Some of my last service ribbons. The ribbon on lower right indicates service, actually being on duty, on the day and at the time of the attacks. I was on duty as a School Resource Officer at a High School in Rutherford County. I watched the news live with the principal after the first plane hit. We watched it live, and... in total horror, as the second plane hit. We realized we were under attack from terrorist. In the words of the president at the time, G.W. Bush; “Freedom was attacked, and freedom will be defended”. Freedom WAS and IS being DEFENDED still today by brave Americans. 9/11/01 NEVER, and I MEAN NEVER, FORGET!!

Cool beans! Thanks ;)

Anyone know first hand if the Accuwedge (made for the 5.56/.223) will work in an LR308? Not much "slack" but I want to tighten up what is there.

The mount bolt walked loose only on the one ring even after it was properly torqued to begin with and re-torqued after I noticed it.. Think it was a weak spot in the threads of that particular bolt/nut combo. Maybe it could have been fixed with some blue loctite but with the unit being new I wanted to go the "customer service" route. I was not disappointed by their response. I found out that their CEO also designed some of the knives in their Dark Ops knife line. -

UPDATE: I had a MINOR issue with one of the scope rings, they are 35mm so there are no local replacements, that I know of. I called the company, explained the issue. The guy said he would look up my warranty card info and take care of it. He took down my address to verify it with the card and that was the end of the call. After about 3 days UPS shows up with a box. I was expecting a delivery, but this was not it. It was from Dark Ops and was a brand new SET of scope rings! I only had a problem with the one and only expected it via US postal service, 1st class at best. They went above and beyond my expectations for the warranty repair of the ring. I wasn't happy about the ring problem BUT I have to say, it made me feel great to see them stand behind their product and be so fast to make it right. -
I just put one, the #670 with a 4lb pull, in my DPMS this afternoon and took it right out to shoot it. It is as crisp and clean of a trigger as I have used or would want in any firearm. I even had the chance a few weeks ago to use the new SR Gold from ATC and I wouldn't turn my hand for the difference. I got mine through Cheaper Than Dirt for a few bucks less than other places. It came quick, installed easy and shoots great!

As of 4:10pm, est, I just finished installing a Timney #670 4lb pull trigger. After reassembly of the rifle I had to try to out. I am very pleased to report that it was as clean and crisp of a trigger I I have ever used or would want. it broke at 4 lbs on the money every shot, give or take .01 of an ounce. It wasn't cheap, over $200, but worth ever single penny in my opinion. Very well built very easy to install. My best friend had recently installed the ATC SR Gold a few weeks ago. I had the chance to put a few rounds downrange with his rifle before he redeployed to Iraq this past Monday. I really liked it too, but to be honest I wouldn't say their was a difference worth discussing between the two. Timney should really be on your list of "contenders".

Thank you specopsscout, That covered just about every negative thing I've heard about the scopes in a nut shell. However, the reason for my thread was to state my opinion based on my experience with the scope to be informative to those who had only heard of the company. And, as I said, welcome any other opinions based on experience. And for that I thank you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and their freedom to voice it is why we fight. -

Knowing nothing about the"mall ninja" culture I will just have to take you at your word on that. So far as "junk scopes", I stand my ground. This scope is not junk or I wouldn't have one myself. I don't claim it to be the best on the market, BUT, for the price, options, warranty and service support (that I personally have experienced) I feel they are a fair deal. Far be it for me to suggest anyone with plenty of money to spend not indulge themselves. I address this to those who don't have thousands to spend on a scope but want one with the aforementioned qualities. If someone has handled one of these scopes and has more than a hearsay opinion, I would love to hear from them. Opinion based on experience, personal experience. Like my time as a paid, professional, working sniper, over 8 years of actual, honest experience, NOT HEARSAY. (Picture below, Camp Lejune N.C., 2001) -
I recently took a chance on a scope called Counter Sniper after a buddy bought one for approx $650.00. I looked his scope over, eyeballed the optics and really liked what I saw. I did some research on them and say a lot of he "hear say" crowd bashing the reticle (TDRM) because they though it was "sci-fi". Having extensive experience with the MilDot system I can tell you that the TDRM has A LOT to offer those who know how to use it. Also, some people just couldn't believe that the optic was worth the advertised "retail" prices. Having had one in my hands and saw what it was I forked out the $650 knowing full well what I was getting. I was an active SWAT Sniper for 8 years and mainly used Leupold's optics with the USMC Mil Dot system. So please don't bash me on my experience with optics, I knew what I was getting. Once it arrived I mounted it to my LR308 and went to the range. The optic is an amazing 10-40x56! I was working out to 300 yards and keeping sub moa (under 3" at that distance) groups with the rifle and this optic. It has all the options I would want out of a scope and at a good price for them. I've read some of the reviews that people have posted that didn't have hands on experience with the optic and I am writing to tell you that this scope is worth every penny as far as I am concerned. No, its not NightForce, US Optics, Leupold, or some of the other big names in scopes. But it is a new company and even the other guys were new one time. I remember when the name "NightForce" was a joke among the Snipers I worked with. No one is laughing at them now. I think I got a great scope at a great price. It may not be known as the top of the line today but its putting holes through paper close enough that it will stay on my rifle for years to come! On another small note. I had the need to call the manufacturer and actually ended up talking to Frank Miller, the CEO of Dark Ops Holdings. HE is a great guy, ex-SWAT too, and was very helpful. Everytime I have called with a question or a need they have been right on top of it! Just my .02, for what they are worth ;)

aturi, I am also "new" to the .308 AR platform. While I was issued an SR25 as a duty rifle during my service in law enforcement I have never built on until now. I do have, what I consider, extensive experience with the .308 round, having a background as a USMC trained SWAT Sniper, I mainly used a .308 for over 8 years. I also have, what I consider, extensive experience with the AR-15 rifle, having been a "Patrol Carbine Course" and "Rapid Deployment/School Shootor Responce" Instructor. These courses mainly used the AR15 platform. I was also sent to Colt's Armorers school by my agency to better aid me with teaching these courses. Having that said, I did some research before starting the current .308 project. I decided to go with DPMS for several reasons, most of which are stated already in this thread. Their lower accepts the 20 round Mag-Pul P-Mags, their prices were the best for the quality of their product and the availability of their parts (excluding the recent lead times) were the best of the current AR10 manufacturers. The problem, as stated already, is that there has never been a "technical specification package" developed for the AR10 unless you consider the one Stoner did WAY back in the 50's? The military has this for the AR15, that's why their is such a thing as "mil-spec". They never did this for the AR10 as a designated "AR-10" rifle platform, they simply accepted the rifle that KAC designed as the dedicated marksman rifle. So, having used the KAC SR25, I decided to go with the DPMS LR308 platform. I have saved the money that I could have spent on the SR25 and so far she is a pure tack driver! Although it is still a work in progress I am very happy withthe DPMS I have built. She is keeping up, and waxing the collective rear ends of some of my buddy's who are still active SWAT Snipers using their "bolt" guns. I have a "bolt" in my safe and wouldn't sell it for the world. This build was something I wanted to do for a fun rifle and one that I was going to build myself. So far, GREAT!

Oh, no doubt. I shoot prone whenever possible but if necessary I think 2 "decent" dps would be the limit offhand. I was just saying the weight can be managed, its just how you train and what your training for. ;)
-
I don't know exactly what mine will weigh when I'm through with the build. So far its sporting a 24" free floated stainless steel bull barrel, a rifle length rail system, bi-pod, A2 stock and a massive scope. I do remember "creeping" through the bush around Camp LeJune with a Remington "M40" (700) for miles in the sun and under the moon. This LR308 is at least as heavy if not more but I think I could manage it in the bush if need be. That being said, I remember what an instructor said once to another trainee who was griping about his sling getting hung up on underbrush, he said "a rifle without a sling is about like a pistol without a holster". Even though my rifle its a fricking "beast", I think that with a sling the weight problem could be endured to take it hunting. But I wouldn't rule out the use of a good 4 wheeler to get me and the gun within range of the intended target ;)

I found this form while researching my new LR308 I'm currently building. I am a 39 year old retired/disabled (18 &1/2 year veteran) officer. I was sent through several USMC sniper schools from SWAT, prior to 911 when they still accepted civilian law enforcement swat snipers in their schools. I always carried a Remington 700 with a Leupold 4.5-14x50 scope and an M4 with a fixed 4 power scope (ACOG) as a back up rifle. At one point I was issued a scoped HK91, early 90s. Another time I was issued an M14 as a secondary to my bolt. I was qualified with all. It was only during my last year I was issued an SR25. I loved the rifle and was as accurate with it as my beloved "bolt" gun. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in April of 09 and due to complications from it I was retired/disabled in September 09. I live in western NC and am a 17 year married father of 3 daughters, 15, 7 & 9 months old. I am building the LR308 because it is the best quality/cost effective rifle I have found to compare with the SR25 I was issued without spending the money KAC wants for one. The DPMS rifle, so far, has a 24" non fluted, target crowned, free floated bull barrel, A3 type upper with a shell deflector and forward assist. A standard A2 stock, DPMS free floated rail, a nice scope and a Timney trigger is due Tuesday. I'm using only Mag-Pul 20 round "P-Mags" at this time and dont plan on changing. I joined this fourm for the benefit of information and opinions of fellow shooting enthusiast of this weapons platform.
