  1. Interesting. I found the following image in the AR-10 Faq page elsewhere. It's a little blurry but seems to have this same distinctive "chip" missing in the extractor... It's interesting because I went back and looked at my empty boxes. I only fired 60 rounds. As much as I would have loved to have done more the others at the range were clearly affected by the report of the Armalite. They weren't mean about it and they didn't ask me to stop or anything but the one gentleman was trying to teach his wife to shoot a 22 and she jumped every time I fired. So I figured I would be courteous but anyway that's another story.
  2. OK, I hope I didn't speak too soon. I always clean my rifles before putting them away. I was just cleaning the AR-10 and I am looking at the extractor and it's not looking quite right. I never really paid much attention before shooting it but this just doesn't look right to me. I only put about 100 rounds through it, I wouldn't expect that to cause any wear yet. Does this extractor look funky to anyone else besides me? Should I be concerned about this?
  3. OK Th AR-10 has gone to the range. I am happy to report that the rifle functioned absolutely flawlessly. The red dot also worked well I must say. The reticle is a bit busy in practice for my liking. Another reason to consider the Bushnell. I am extremely happy with the rifle I must say!
  4. I have to admit I have been looking at reviews of this optic on and off all day. Everywhere I look it gets pretty decent reviews overall. The biggest complaint is the weigh but it's only about an ounce and a half more than my ACOG. There are always the crew that pan any optic that costs less than $500 but I simply can't afford another ACOG right now. The more I look at this the more I think it will do everything I want and more and with the difference in cash I can put a free float tube on the front too. I only wish I had seen this before I ordered the Walther. Is it as good as an ACOG? I doubt it and I wouldn't expect it to be. However is it good enough for what I need? I expect it probably is. I hope to order it next paycheck and find out. I'll put the Walther on my 22 target pistol or something.
  5. Sweet looking. Thanks for that link. An I've bought some photography stuff from them before. They are one of the two NYC camera dealers I trust. Definitely worth considering. I really like the EoTech idea though but this is looking like a real contender.
  6. SWEET! <thumbsup> <thumbsup> <thumbsup> 8)
  7. That's good to hear. All I need to last is maybe a month or two... Then I can let it live on my 22 Handgun.
  8. Thanks a bunch for checking on that for me, and for the link. <thumbsup>
  9. Is this it? http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=EA5085&ReturnUrl=Categories.aspx?Category=5d9a50a0-b098-44fd-bb5a-e9c08c192130 It looks like it included the mag body too? Essentially ALL of the parts... Is the Mag body pre-ban?
  10. Oh do they now? <thumbsup> Off I go... LOL I'm game to try at least one. However if it turns out unreliable I'd rather have a reliable 10 round than an iffy 20. First I need to find a pre-ban M14-M1A mag...
  11. I was thinking what about an AR-10T upper on the std lower, I would expect the lowers to be pretty much the same. Am I right?
  12. I had actually hoped to use the iron sights from my AR-15 on or swap my ACOG. However my ACOG has 5.56 graduations and I like it where it is. It turns out my front iron sights are for level rails and the front sight is too short. Which brings me to the next question... I see a lot of sight options marked AR-15. Are the AR-10 sight base heights the same so they can be used on an AR-10 as well or do I need to use AR-10 specific ones?
  13. Yeah I ordered it before doing research first. I needed something quick to shoot with. We'll see how it goes. I did read some review of people using them on AR-15's but an AR-15 and AR-10 are two different animals recoil-wise. So like you said it's gonna be a durability test of sorts.
  14. This is my new AR-10. It's factory stock except for the Ergo grip and the Walther red dot if that even counts. It's a NY legal 10A4CBF-2 since I haven't managed to escape this state. yet. Now that I have something to aim with I will be trying it out next weekend. I have my concerns about the cheap red dot but it'll have to do for now. has anyone had any experience with one of these?
  15. Thanks for the input! Here in NY it had a muzzle break on it from the factory. Also collapsible stocks are a no-no here as well. I think the Magpul PRS is OK in NY though. I am not worried about the recoil personally. I've shot larger calibers in bolt guns. My comment there was just that the red dot I bought for the mean time wasn't a particularly expensive one so I don't expect it to hold up too well. Who knows I may be surprised. I run a TA11H on my AR-15 and I would LOVE another one on the AR-10. I like the TA11's increased eye relief and I like the H reticle. They do make that in a .308 version too but right now I think if I spend another chunk like that after just buying the rifle I will need to find a place to live with it because the wife will be unhappy LOL. I cannot say enough good things about the ACOGs though!
  16. Good to hear. It will be a bit before I can begin such a project. I did order a cheap red dot for it so I could shoot it soon since I spent most of my funds on the rifle itself. I suspect that cheap red dot won't last long under the 308's recoil so I am already planning for something a bit more resilient. However good optics aren't cheap. Once that is done and maybe I change the front handguard then I will begin the target rifle project.
  17. Yeah it's really ridiculous. The dimwits that think these laws prevent crime have forgotten the that by definition criminals don't obey the law.
  18. Being I live in NY if I want a hi-cap mag (legally anyway) it has to be pre-ban. Finding pre-ban mags for AR-15's is a trivial task. You have to overpay but you can get them easily. I am wondering what the options are for an AR-10 in this regard, if any.
  19. Hi everyone I am new to the AR-10. So new I haven't even fired mine yet and due to lack of sights won't likely be able to until next weekend. However I have already been thinking of future plans for this rifle. I was wondering what issues I might run into if I were to purchase a different upper to swap out with the current lower. Basically to have the option of a target rifle upper and a carbine (current) on the same lower. As long as I stick with Armalite parts will that result in any issues? I know the .243 is basically a necked down .308 so I was also wondering if it's possible to run a .243 upper on the .308 lower?
  20. Congrats! Makes me feel good about my choice of 30 cal too! <thumbsup> <thumbsup> <thumbsup>
  21. OK, as I got it it was in a plastic case, not a box. The label on the bottom of the case says SKU# 151101. I will email you the SN too because I suspect that is the SKU for the case, not it's contents.
  22. New, there is a small label on the bottom with a barcode and a number. I will post it tonight...
  23. I looks like this one (sans sights) http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=10A4CBF-2&ReturnUrl=Categories.aspx?Category=90b7ea80-ce88-4988-a01b-7636f54f5bd9
  24. Thanks! I actually picked up my Armalite from the dealer yesterday. I don't see any label on it as to which model it is exactly. Is there any way to tell? I know it's one of the carbine versions.
  25. OK Well maybe not. I am not sure. I did pic up the new AR-10 yesterday. I went with a shorter barrel which would be more conducive to an ACOG but... The ACOG is sighted in already on the LMT and I really like it there. Money's a little tight after opting for the more expensive Armalite over the DPMS so I ordered a Walther red dot for it for now. We'll see how that goes when it arrives. I've already ordered an Ergo Grip for it as well. I love those things. <thumbsup>
