  1. cbvanb, Thanks for bring up his topic. I have recently built a ar308 and have had ejection problems. My casing are dented at the top. I shoot a few rounds off and the bolt do not go all the way forward. I have noticed that the bolt is 1/2" from clearing out of the way of the ejection port. I was told to try a CAR-10. I have also been soaking the bolt parts in Mobil 1. Do you think that the shells are hitting the bolt. Zuma Bob
  2. Guys, The 12 step program is one gun every month. After the year is up we start all over until you die. Can you guys keep up? Some of the gun manufacturers are sold out for the year. I think one of them is Ruger. What is the real story?
  3. Hey Guys, Lets start a 12 step AR Group.
  4. My obsession was in full force in the 90s. For some reason I moved on to something else. My twin boys got into it and it sparked my obsession . The monster reared its ugly head and now I have pissed off wife. My twins showed me the AR-15 system an I was quickly hooked. I bought a Sig piston AR-15 to start with. I installed better Magpul parts and got it set up the way I want. Its hard to start when you don't know what works or what you like . I told my cousin and friend that I wasn't going to let them make same costly mistakes. I' am in the process of getting them hooked. My sons are not interested in ARs for them self now that they have mine to shoot. WE have lots of different things to shoot and the ARs seem to be the most popular and most fun to shoot. Zuma Bob
  5. Hey You All, My good friend Nofail told me about this part of the site and he thought it would be helpful for me knowing what my trials and errors are. To start I am building my own ar308 . For the most part its finished. I took it to the range and tried it out and had some success . Work in progress. I shoot a few rounds and it jams. It seems to handle 3 different types of ammo the same. By reading this site I have checked the bolt carrier clearing the ejection port. About 1/2" sticks out when the bolt is pulled all the way back. I think thats where the spent shells are getting dented. I was suggested to get a CAR-10 buffer tube and spring. I have also drenched the bolt carrier in Mobil 1 oil. I loaded 10 rounds in the mag and pulled the charging handle back hard and quickly. 2-3 at time and jammed. I realized I was resting the mag on the table so I repeated 10 more rounds and they ejected fine . Now I'm thinking I was resting the mag on the table while firing. I have a gunsmith checking out the gun this weekend. Hopefully this is going to be ironed out. 1. Oil the pss out of it with Mobil One. 2.New buffer and spring (car-10) 3. Fix Samson quad rail (another story) 4. Open for your options or suggestions. Zuma Bob
  6. Costa Mesa to the gun show and also talk to Luis about that quad rail.
  7. Nofail, I'm going to the Costa Mesa on Sunday. It makes more sense after going to that site you refer me to .
  8. Nofail, I forgot to tell you how many rounds and about my Bolt carrier. I have shoot about 100 -120 rounds. I don't t know much about my bolt carrier other than it cost 220.00 , black and heavy. I got from Luis. Bob
  9. Nofail, My next thing is get a car-10 buffer spring. Thanks for sending me to the other site. Got lots of info there. Mobil 1 is very popular. I was at a Jiffy Lube on Saturday. Asked the tech if I could have a little bit of Mobil 1 if he had some. He gave about 4 oz. which he charged me for. I was charged for 6.2 quarts. He over charged by me .1 oz. I hope you know I'm joking.
  10. Thanks guys, Nofail, I am using the buffer and spring that came with my Vltor butt stock. The ammo I'm using is Winchester 147 gr. , American Eagle 150 gr. and Federal 168gr. Today I was At the range that had an hour wait. There was 60 people waiting and over 40 shooting. So I had plenty time to scan the whole gun shop two to three time over. The salesman let me try a 10 round DPMS steel mag. Well to make a short story longer it worked worse than the pmags. So again it would shoot a couple rounds and than the bolt wouldn't slam forward. Soon as I released the mag the bolt would go forward. The DPMS mag fit snug and much tighter than the pmags. The pmag are a bit loose but seem to work better. Back to ammo. The three brand and grains didn't seem to make much difference. Its interesting that the bolt moves forward when the mag is released. I well check out that section that you gave me. Thank You, Bob
  11. Yes well seemed to have had are bad luck with JDM but in the end they are very nice people and their products are pretty good. They also have to put up with the strict regs of California. I also had the no call back (not all the time) and saying one thing and doing another. But in the end I'm happy. I would refer them . Bob
  12. Nofail, I keep forgetting to ask you about the Sacramento guy. You are in Sacramento do you know who I'm talking about ? Luis has the best booth. It a bit of a mess but he has good quality stuff. Its reasonably priced. Buy once Bob
  13. Nofail, I have been playing with my 308 on & off today. I loaded the pmag with 10 rounds and cycled it by pulling the charge handle and letting bolt slide forward. If I did it quickly I could eject all 10 rounds. Sometimes 15-20% it would jam. I dont know if the bolt didn't have enough momentum or the round was getting stuck on the ramp. I say that because all the casing are scratched . Could I have a mag problem ?
  14. Nofail, Thank you for the advise. Is is all trail & error . Which make it interesting. I'm not going to sent you a bill if this doesn't work. You didn't give a option on cutting the buffer spring that I have to see if there is a change. Why are those buffer spring so expensive? Thank You Bob
  15. Nofail, I have the old two ton Tessie DPMS bolt. I wish I would have known about the low mass bolt sooner. If all else fails I well buy one. Sal explained the principles of the low mass bolt compared to the regular bolt. It makes sense. I'm going to try your suggestion. Someone said that I should try to cut the buffer spring and see what happens. What do you think ?
  16. Hey, Nofail You are all over the place on this site. Are range here in SoCal is pretty diverse and full also. I have a problem when a group comes in and its all fun and games. Usually they are using their phone video and acting silly. Another group of people come in and throw their stuff on yours. This is a small percentage of the people. Most of the people there are friendly and helpful. It only takes a few when they are handling weapons. If I see them in the lobby I usually talk to them. Nicely. They sometime dont know any better. I dont want to engage them in the range. If I think they are being unsafe I leave. Bob
  17. Nofail, Glad you asked. To start every casing is getting pinched on the out. So every casing is not quite making it out before the bolt moves forward. When it jams I think the bolt isn't moving all the way forward. The guy at the range said the cheapest way to eliminating the problem is a buffer spring. Then go to the next expensive item. The last may be a mass bolt. HELP Thanks Bob I showed him the bolt and he was surprised how heavy it is.
  18. Hey everyone, Got good news and bad news. Bad news is the 308 cycles anywhere from 1 to 8 rounds and it jams. The worst thing is my very expensive Samson quad rail fell apart on me as I was shooting. I hope my 308 guy well back me on this. The Samson quad rail is very nice but when I brought it home and checked it out I discovered the weak link. There is a small stainless steel pin with a detent spring that goes into a small hole in the aluminum. So just a couple of shoots on my new bipod the bit of metal snapped off. I wish I knew how to show Nofail and the rest of you guys the poor design. How in the hell would something like this ever hold up in serious situations The good news is that it fired. Its not perfect yet. The power of the 308 is great. Makes my ar15 feel like air soft gun. Nofail have you got your stick out yet. Hope you had better luck than me. You have had your run of not so good luck.
  19. Nofail, Weekend was great. Slipped out to the gun show while my lovely bride was napping. Friends said I was a big idiot. Fred said it was a test. Oh well I had to get my upper. I'm willing to pay the price . All is well I have my upper. I know all you guy get it. RIGHT???
  20. Slipped out to the gun show when wife was taking a nap. My friend said I was a dumb ass because it was a test. He said I would be paying for it somewhere down the line. Was not able to shot today. Bought a Bore Snake today so I'm ready to break in my barrel. Can anyone tell me why we have to break in the barrel? I was told to shot one round and oil with a Bore Snake and repeat.
  21. Guys' I made it to the show on Saturday. I got there at the tail end so I didn't have to pay for parking or for the show. I really would not have cared if I had to 100.00. I wanted my completed upper. Its looks great. The quad rail is a bit longer than I wanted. So cutting the barrel down to a true 16". Its all together and it look great. Hope to shoot it tomorrow. I also picked up a GG & G bipod. I cant wait to use it on both ar's. 22. Nofail , Looks really good. I know how you feel. All you guy had to read my problems with the unthreaded bolt catch pin. It doesn't seem like it well ever get here or get fixed when we get so anxious about are stuff. Is that a 240, 260 or a 280z. I have not seen one in a long time. Nice garage. How do I get pictures up. Thank you for yours.
  23. No problem on being high jacked. But who the heck is Dave. remember cheech and chong. Daves not here. But really who is Dave?
  24. My trigger came in a 308 DPMS lower parts kit.
