  1. First, always check the owner's manual and see what it says about ammo. Many makers' warranty will be void if steel cased ammo is used. That being said I've fed my DPMS AP4 AR-15 Wolf (black box) 55gr fmj & hp, 62gr fmj & hp, and Brown Bear 55gr fmj. No issues with any of them. Granted I'm not firing 100s of rounds at a time, but I've had no issues with any lacquer or polymer coating build-up ever. I've fired Wolf (black box) 150gr fmj through a PTR91 I used to have without issue too....it was actually giving me better groups than Austrian brass cased surplus. For my pistols I've shot Brown Bear and Wolf through my XD9 and Wolf through my G21SF and Taurus 1911 without any problems either. I understand the thought of only using higher grade stuff through a higher grade rifle or whatever, but if a rifle going for $1500+ (or whatever premium cost) and it can't handle "cheap" steel cased ammo, then IMO I'm going to look elsewhere. Let's not forget that the U.S. military during WWII was using steel cased .45ACP ammo....which a few months ago MidwayUSA had on sale, and it sold quick. When I was researching for what .308 AR I wanted, DI or piston, I emailed companies and asked them about steel cased ammo. POF and PWS both said they run Wolf regulary through their guns. So hence I now own a POF :). But, once I'm able to shoot 300+ yards I'm def. going to get some match stuff to see what my POF can really do. Unfortunately, stuck with 100 yard range at the moment :(. Is brass softer than steel? Yes, of course. But materials used to make today's firearms should be of stouter stuff than steel cased ammo. If steel cased ammo is so terrible why would Hornady and Black Hills now offer ammo with steel cases? They're not exactly known for producing crap ammo are they? Here's some food for thought:
  2. gunsnet.net/ak-47.net is where I go and have been a member the longest. I've lurked arf a couple times, but I won't support a place where people get all butt-hurt if you disagree and they "warn" you and ban you on a dime.....free speech doesn't apply there, and I'm not talking about trolls or purposeful flame wars. I'm technically a member of acrforums.com, but that lasted maybe a whole two months when I still had my acr.....just didn't work out and I haven't been back.
  3. Sorry everyone about not posting any pics yet. Only pic I have is on my phone and it wouldn't do the rifle justice posting it. Been part busy and part lazy since I got it so I'll try to get motivated this weekend to take some pics and post...sucks working nights cuz all I want to do when I get home is sleep. Have mercy! lol
  4. Howsabout a STG44 and MP40.......in .22lr flavor?
  5. LOL, oops my bad.
  6. Armalite is now going to make AR-10s that accept PMAGS: http://www.gundigest.com/gun-blogs/tactical-military-arms-blog/new-armalite-ar-10a-accepts-magpul-pmags?et_mid=534912&rid=233334989 How about a take-down AK?
  7. Post pics of anything that has piqued your interest at this year's SHOT Show. I'll go first. A new entry into the CCW market from Springfield Armory, and in .45ACP no less! I'm digging it: http://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/springfield-armory-xds/

    M1 Garand

I would HIGHLY recommend going through the CMP for a M-1 Garand. Yes, it can be a pain doing all the their requirements, but it's so worth the effort. I got my service grade in 2007 and LOVE it. I had it checked out by a 'smith and at the time it was one of the best he had seen....barrel and throat looked untouched. At the time he recommended I sell it (for much more that what I paid for it) and get two more of the same grade--> service. Kicking myself now for not getting one or two more. Only thing bad with mine was that it needed an elevation knob (one in it was a bit rusty). It cleaned up nicely and looks gorgeous now, def. going to be a family heirloom now. I recommend going service grade and whatever manufacture that floats your boat. Mine was Springfield Armory. Just a heads up, got an email update from their sales dept., which you can sign up for, and the prices of service grade are going up....not sure how much exactly, but for sure at least $100. If you're lucky enough to live somewhat close to either their Ohio or Alabama stores, I'd take a road trip and pick one out yourself. I wasn't able to, but I got a great rifle....straight to my front door! Can't beat that.
  9. Legally? Nope. Don't even think cops can in IL. (ii) any rifle having one or more barrels less than 16 inches in length or a shotgun having one or more barrels less than 18 inches in length or any weapon made from a rifle or shotgun, whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise, if such a weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches; or From page 5: http://www.isp.state.il.us/docs/ptfire.pdf Welcome to the Republik of IL.

  11. My new, but slightly used, P.O.F.-USA .308 AR is now safe here at home. It could use a clean-up and I'll be going over it with a fine-tooth comb to make sure there aren't any issues (that can be discovered without firing it). Question though: do all POF rifles come with anti-walk trigger pins? This one doesn't have any, which means previous owner took them off or wasn't built with them (POF not use them in past years?). Seems all the pics I've seen of their rifles they have KNS anti-walk pins. I'll be doing some investigating and getting in touch with POF to ask them some other questions. I was pleasantly surprised how light it is for being a .308 with a 20" barrel; much lighter that I would have guessed. Curious how much lighter new ones are with the new fore-ends are compared to this one. And yes, pics will be posted ASAP.....Tuesday early a.m. at the latest if nothing comes up. ;D
  12. I guess I should have mentioned I wasn't looking to buy, just wondering if this was a fair price outside of the group deal that is going on. I actually made this thread because it reminded me of the MA-TEN group buy thread. Any .308 buying is on hold for awhile with me getting the POF.....and expecting my first kid in May, so most if not all OT and spare cash is going towards preparing for my youngin's arrival :D
  13. I know of MA-TEN, but not much about them. Would this be considered a good/fair price? http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1MegaMTS4400SRifle&name=Mega+Arms+MA-TEN+.308+Monolithic+Receiver+Set&groupid=11 $982 with free shipping in the mainland. And for $592 + free s/h in the lower 48:
  14. Trade has been completed. Unfortunately due to CO getting dumped with snow last couple of days the POF won't arrive until the 28th at the earliest :(. Anyhoo, the thread can be locked up or whatever you need to do. Thanks.
  15. I've decided to go through with the trade. With any luck the POF will be in my hands by mid-next week and pics will be posted when i get a chance.
  16. The ACR is currently being traded. Thanks all for looking. If trade falls through, will update.
  17. Yes, the POF would fill a want/need: I sold my only .308 (ptr-91) a few months ago and I'm looking for a replacement, plus it's handier than my M-1 Garand. POF is on my list of possible replacements, as is CMMG, Bushmaster/DPMS, PWS, and possibly LMT. I apologize for not being specific on what I'm trying to compare, which is value, not caliber/rifles themselves. Yes I know one is a rifle and the other a carbine. I like the idea of going piston system running cleaner and easier to clean, but DI would def save me money. The reason I'm selling/trading the ACR is because it's the only firearm I have right now that I'm willing to sell/trade....I have no issues with the ACR. Some people like it, others don't, just like anything else. The reason I'd rather have a 16/18" barrel is for "handiness", like a 16" AR. Am I going to be shooting 1000yds or even 500yds with it? No, cuz to do that I'd have to drive several hours so I'm stuck with 100yds at the moment. Besides, on their website they say their 12" guns are tack drivers too so I find the point moot.

  19. Got a possible trade in the works for my ACR for a POF .308. He's offering his 20" POF .308 with about 220rds through it for my ACR plus cash. He's asking $500 cash, but I'll offer $400 making it $2000 total, which he offered for trade sake and would be his original trade price minus all the stuff he had with the rifle (scope, sling, foregrip/light). I'm not crazy about the 20" barrel (max I would want is 18"), but should I perhaps get over it cuz it's a good deal? He didn't give me a time frame to decide so I'll ask for a couple/few days (or weekend) to think abut it. Your thoughts on the value of the trade? Yes, I know either rifle isn't "cheap" but I'd like honest opinions on the value of the deal itself. Thanks all!
  20. Just thought I'd list some places everyone can check for ammo. If anyone has any to add feel free to do so! OK, now for a question: Should ammo deals/sales be listed in the Ammunition section or in the Sales section (where I've already posted a couple)? Once decided I will put all my future ammo deals there. 21. I know what you mean, but unless we try other types/brands we may be missing out on other good rounds out there which could even save us money. FGMM has earned its reputation, but even Federal has had some bad ammo over the years.....so has Win., Remmy, and others. If it was me I'd do like I mentioned above: take one apart to check all the parts. Also, if the spent primer fits back in the primer hole with just push of a finger, chances are the brass was made out of spec and not a sign of a hot load. Again email the company, make a note of the lot, and perhaps try a box or two of another lot to see if same issue happens again. If it does, I wouldn't buy it again either. But I would still try Prvi's match loads, just not the PSPs :). YMMV <thumbsup>
  22. Unfortunately wash, I haven't been able to try any of Prvi's .308 ammo due to a lack of a .308 at the moment :(. What little of their 175gr match my uncle has shot he didn't have any problems. All I can think of now is to search the interwebz for any similar problems with other shooters, or maybe pull the bullet and weigh the charge in a round or two. Also, check to see if the primer pocket is just tad wider than should be, cuz that would cause primer to come out no matter how mild a powder charge. Any reloaders in the house to give their .02? Other option(s) would be to email your rifle's maker for help and even email Prvi's importer and give them a rundown of what happened; make sure you have the lot # handy so they can track any issues. Best case scenario is maybe getting a refund. By chance did you try the ammo in another rifle to confirm?
  23. A date which will live in infamy. 70 years ago today. May it never be forgotten. Edit: Apologies, this should have been done in "Club House". Please move.
  24. OK. Here we are.

    CMMG 308

CMMG's two models are on my list of possibilities. Any and all range reports and/or issues (if any) are greatly appreciated. If possible, I'd be interested in their reliability with the "cheap" fodder, i.e. basic WWB, UMC, and if willing some steel cased ammo. I know, I know. To some steel cased ammo is anathema, but bulk of what I'd shoot through it is going to be the lighter weight bullets, a.k.a. affordable, ammo be it steel and/or brass. Rarely would I be running FGMM or other match ammo through it due to the fact my wallet couldn't take it! :'(
