  1. One more question. Other than going through RRA is there another place to get an upper at a good price ?
  2. Thank you all for your input. Now I have a lot to checkout.
  3. If your customers like things like the PRS stock they will need the DPMS stock extender. Triggers and ambi safeties are interchangeable. I also recommend muzzle brakes. The one I have works wonders (shark muzzle brake).
  4. I guess I am not being clear. If I buy an upper it will be a 16" 308. If I buy a complete rifle it will be an 7.62x39.
  5. The 5.56 was built as a replacement for the 30 carbine (7.62 X 33 (supped up pistol round)). The 5.56 is more likely to kill do to it's ballistic coefficient but lacks the kinetic energy to stop person or keep them from firing back. Where as the 7.62x39 and the 7.62 NATO are less likely to kill (repairable damage) they impart 2 to 3 times the energy (knock down power). I am looking at getting a sig 556R or a LAR 47 or an US made AK. An complete upper will cost me 3/4 of those if not more. I am looking for opinions on the practicality of an upper vs a complete rifle.
  6. I do not own a 5.56, nor will I ever own one (I guess you missed my signature). I have used one in overseas. I just want to know how bad the fouling, heat (DI) and recoil affect the rifle in the 16". I currently have a 20" that I have built for long range. A 7.62x39 will run me as much as a new LAR 8 upper. I have yet to have fired a 16" 308 so I am looking for the pros and cons of it.
  7. I am looking at getting a CQB style rifle but HATE the 5.56. I have used it and seen how ineffective it really is. I am looking at either going to a 7.62x39 or getting a 16" upper for my rifle. How do those of you who have the 16" like it in a rapid fire role with it being a DI rifle?
  8. The buffer is from http://heavybuffers.com/. It is on the right side of the page under Heavy Buffers. The other thing that made a HUGE difference was the muzzle brake. It was $40 on amazon and listed under Shark Muzzle brake.
  9. Looks awesome! <thumbsup>
  10. He didn't do any air brushing. His class is in Cali so he might have some issues. <laughs> Here are some more pics. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.489837401040689.114723.383622821662148&type=1 (You do not have to have a facebook account to view.)
  11. My buddy took some pictures of my rifle for his photography class.
  12. Tell us how you really feel man.
  13. Hollywood, I wish you the best of luck. My heavy buffer is a little over 9.5 ounces compaired to the 5.3 ounce stock one. It seems to work great.
  14. Hollywood, Sorry it took me so long to reply but I had to find my old buffer to show the the difference. As you can see Slash's is better constructed and about twice the size and weight. Also it has an anti tilt ring. I would highly suggest it.
  15. Hollywood, I usually just remove the buffer and spring after every shoot and clean it out real good with an old 12g bore cleaner. Then use some light CLP in the tube. That is how I learned to do it in the military.
  16. Hollywood, The heavy buffer made a big difference. I was having an issue with it double feeding do to the recoil knocking loose another round. It stopped that and my felt recoil went way down. I would say it cut it in half. Hope that helps.
  17. Hollywood, First, sweet rifle. Second, what is the green thing behind the scope? Third, If you are going to have the butt that far extended I would suggest a DPMS stock extender then you don't have to lower or modify the cheek rest to use the charging handle. Brownell's sells them for $32.
  18. Nice rifles Edge. <thumbsup>
  19. With all the posts on this thread there are only 6 sets of pictures (thanks to thoses who have put them up). We all started somewhere so even if its not done be proud of what you have and show it off. ;D
  20. If you have any question on the one you are building let me know. I did it on my own and it took me a few tries to ensure that I didn't break anything. He loves it and it became the smoothest 16" 308 I have ever fired after we put on that stock.
  21. The MK13 is a new one for me. Always nice to learn something new. I am very familiar with the MK14. In fact I built on for a buddy. Here it is. http://308ar.com/forum/index.php?topic=3777.msg32687#msg32687
  22. I feel silly now. I read the "LaRue and the 18in" and did go further than that. The M110 being a 20" I over thought it. Also I know of the MK12 through games and such. Impact Guns had one in stock. http://www.impactguns.com/knights-xm110-rifle-silencer-and-sniper-system-accessory-package-one-only-21568.aspx
  23. Looks like a M110. Even the suppressor looks the same. Nice.
  24. I am shooting a consistant dime size grouping in that range. I have the same plugs we use on the fight deck of a carrier. They are not comfortable but they work. I am always up for constructive criticism. I will try it. Thank you.
