Looking to put this guy in the freezer this year!

Neighbor shot this guy. No luck so far. Going to a different location end of week to see what I can find. -

Yup, that would be a good shot, especially since the stand is 20 yards behind the camera. Unfortunately, this pic was just after midnight. The good news is neighbor just combined 300 acres of corn next door...so patterns changing already. -

Saw this guy on my cams a number of times this fall. Hope to see him when hunting! Good luck to all you hunters! I also figured out my issues with some (low power) loads not cycling properly with my JP Silent capture spring. Solve by....inserting a quarter in buffer tube before silent capture spring. Not kidding. JP guy went over things with me and suggested. Apparently spring assembly just a bit short or buffer tube a bit long and not fully pushing bolt all the way back every time. I probably should see if I have any more thread left to screw buffer tube farther in...but don't think I do. Cycles every time properly now with every type of load I put in it. 10pt.mp4

Weighed the .308 rifle: 12.2 lbs with scope and sling but without a magazine or bipod. My latest AR15 weighs 10.0 lbs. (18" with rifle length gas - DPMS 3G1 upper) Every time that I decide to get an alternate upper (caliber, length, or whatever), I just end up getting a dedicated lower for it. Guess I just have to build another and make it a lightweight hunter :)

Looks great Washguy. Mine is a DPMS. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I hope to get out and do some more shooting soon. Will weigh it then. Mine has 18" with M-308, hiperfire 243G, jp silent capture and shoots soft as well.

Very nice!

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately, we only saw porcupines and woodpeckers this past weekend. The deer seem to only be moving at night and we didn't hear any wolves. Oh well, muzzleloader season starts soon.

Yessir, the 308 hit em hard. Big effin hole on exit. Going up this afternoon for the weekend to see if we can get more Wolf and Deer.

Not sure I want SBR, so would probably make sure comp pinned to hit 16". So I think I know the answer, but is there any issue with reduced velocity from 12.5" or even 14.5" barrel if I am not trying to get out past say 200-300 yards?
-
Not sure what it weighs yet. I know my 243 rem 700 should weigh 7 lbs or so and this feels a lot heavier. Now I'm gona have to get on the scale with it tonight to see exact weight. I didnt build for hunting. Just wanted for heavy metal 3 gun and or pushing some longer distance. (And cause I didn't have one :) I have vtac sling and carry 2 point in front barrel down to left.

Hey Guys! Northern Mn shooter first AR platform

Agree with washguy. Two boys and a mule to carry. Great sitting in stand with Nikon M-308 scope. Tough to hump through Northern MN swamps. -

Welcome fellow Minnesotan. I have first gen DPMS 308. 18" rfile length gas. Miculek comp. Hiperfire 24 3G trigger and JP silent capture spring. Still working out bugs, but love the low recoil and no muzzle rise as well as great trigger. -
Robo. I'll search as well, but any hints on finding 13.7 inch barrel and what is a KX5? Thx
-
Current stock is an Ace Skeletonized. It's pretty light. Barrel is 18" rifle length gas system with DPMS m111 handguard. I'll look into a short upper.

Very nice Robocop

I haven't had any range time yet, but took it hunting anyways. I opened it up and checked to make sure trigger reset looked like it was working o.k. Looked fine to me. After I shot, I checked the bolt position...it looked fully closed. I banged the forward assist just to be sure, second shot fine. My guess is that the JP Silent Capture spring is just on the edge of working/not working with the spring that is installed. They have a kit with 3 other springs so I can tailor the spring rate to the gun. I'm sure it has to do with mass of bolt/carrier, how hot the load is, lube/friction, how many rounds in mag (how hard to strip new round off?). I may even find out that it was just a little break in that was needed. I don't think this has anything to do with the Hiperfire trigger, so if I have more info I will make new post. I think it is spring rate in JP Silent Capture. By the way, I love the short, crisp, light pull of the 24 3G.

Thanks! My two hunting buddies also each have tags yet. Hopefully this weekend we will get two more. After I shot this one, the pack moved off and hasn't been back in two weeks.

98Z5V, Primary Arms has Primary Arms Micro Dot With Removable Base MD-RBGII for $89.99. That looks like it would do the trick. Most of my shots would be 150 yards are under. Did you find any time that you wanted a magnifier on the red dot? Did you end up putting a compensator on it? I run JP comp on my 5.56, JP recoil eliminator (big) on my 338 Win Mag, and a Miculek on my LR308. All with wonderful felt recoil reduction.\ Thanks guys!

Do you have a scope on the gunsite? What kind? I'll have to see if any local shops have one. I need to feel one see what a long eye relief scope is like. I also don't want to spend big bucks for a custom. Probably get in trouble just for buying another one at all.

Until this year, I have hunted with a Remington 700 in .243. Nice light gun for tromping through the brush. This year I carried my 308AR through some tough brush. The only thing that was a drawback was the weight. I haven't weighed it, but I am guessing 13lbs. +. So my search begins for a light, short, 308 for hunting. Bolt or Semi. I'm spoiled by low recoil because of caliber or compensator. I like good triggers under 4 lbs. I'm used to Rem 700, have also used Ruger M77 (in 338 Win Mag). Ruger Gunsite? Rem 700 SPS with 16.5" threaded and a comp? Suggestions?

Here is my first animal taken with the new 308 AR. This is a wolf. (young one). Shot at about 40 yards and not much of a challenge for this gun.

Won't get time to get back to it until this weekend. Going to change one thing at a time and see what actual cause is. Was hoping to use this for deer hunting, but won't if it's unpredictable on second shot.
-
No. I looked at it after the click, and it looked fully closed. It has forward assist, so i gave it a couple thumps, but bolt didn't appear to move. I dropped mag and pulled charging handle back and it opened and extracted without any trouble like I would expect. Before I change the springs, I'll go through more rounds and check bolt after first shot. Do you think that the gas/recoil of bolt is not carrying enough power to fully close? I have a JP Silent Capture spring in it.
