  1. I priced one of those out once. No thanks. 3-4 month wait and it cost about twice what anyone else's barrel cost.
  2. Having watched this, I'm going to put my National Match trigger back in my service rifle and put a SSA-E in my Mega 308. Kinda painful to watch at his slow pace, but it's worth it get a better understanding of the trigger differences.
  3. New York Reload. Lol. One click Amazon Prime puts it here on Tues. Thanks for the link!
  4. First one I ever shot was last year and I took it with a Colt Python. We snuck up on three that were sleeping. Stalked up to about 15 yards and they started to stir. Boom. First one through the heart. My buddy took the second 30-06 and I took the third with my 6.8 SPC II. Didn't like how they didn't drop right now with the 6.8 so I built the .308. To stay on topic, I actually have two VTAC slings. One with quick release for the AR's and one for standard attachments.
  5. Oh yea. I could spot a hot target at 1500 yards. At 1000 yards I could tell if it was a cow or a pig. At 500 yards I could tell a coyote from a skunk. I rented it from themaloutfitters.com. Flew into Dallas, met him outside the airport and picked up the equipment. It worked perfectly. The 320 3x cost $300 for the weekend. Worth every penny.
  6. I suppose I'll be asked about the equipment. I'm shooting my Mega Maten 308 with Rainier Ultramatch 18" barrel, JP lightened BCG, Ace stock and DPMS carbon hardguard. It weighs 8 lbs with no scope. Optics is a rented ATN ThOR 320 3x. Sling is the VTac of course. My buddy is using the outfitters rig. It's a 6.8 SPC AR-15 with Eotech and PVS-14 night vision scope.
  7. Yea, that was lame. Didn't want to hijack the thread. Here you go.
  8. I just got back from 4 days hunting hogs in Texas. I used this sling for 10 hours each one of those four days on my Mega 308. If it had any short comings I'd know by now. Loved the sling. Comfortable and versatile. While walking to the grounds I'd sling it up over my shoulder, muzzle up and tighten it. Once we spotted, I'd bring the rifle back to my chest and keep it tight. For the stalk I'd loosen it and carry low so I could shoulder quickly. Worked gread. Killed 4 hogs and a bobcat.
  9. Syrac is adjustable from the front.
  10. All that high end stuff and no adjustable gas block?
  11. I rinse mine with cold tap water, blow them off and then rinse them with WD-40. Blow that off, dry with a rag and oil.
  12. I've never had a problem drilling CF, and I've gone it extensively working with model airplanes and boats. Couple things to keep in mind. One is the fibers will splinter when the bit exits, so if you can, back it with something. Use a higher speed with less force. Second is that CF dust is like asbestos. Once it's in your lungs it stays. Keep your work piece wet with oil or water and wear a respirator. If you smell it, you're inhaling it. Having said all that, don't get scare away from working with CF. Once you've done a couple jobs with it, you'll understand how to work with it and see that's it no harder than any other material.
  13. Another to consider is that a 20" barrel will likely take a rifle length gas system, a 18" will likely take a mid-length and a 16" will take a carbine length gas system. There are some advantages to the longer gas system.
  14. Yes. Some kind of hard plastic.

    Crimping

If you're loading a boat tail bullet and prepping the neck correctly, you don't bell the mouth, right? If that's the case then you've set the proper neck tension in the sizing step. Neck tension is what holds the bullet from set back. Changing neck tension AFTER seating could compress the bullet. I don't see why you'd ever crimp a .308 round.
  16. No problem attaching a rail. I use carbon hand guards on all my AR's. I prefer Magpul rails. I grind the mount side concave with a 2" sanding drum. Drill a couple of holes and you're good to go.
  17. This is my local paper and I'm on their list. The worst effected are the 8,000 retired cops that had their name and address published. The paper has a clear anti-gun agenda. NY state senator Ball has introduced legislation to make this a crime, but it won't prevent the damage that's already been done. The paper has stated that they will release more names once the other county's FOIL requests are returned.
  18. I tried the big JP brake on my 20" Rainer barreled 308 and it didn't do much for muzzle rise. Recoil was about gone though. I have the small on now and I going to drill out holes and see if I can get it to tame the muzzle rise.
  19. I'm using the JP comp on a 20" barrel and still getting a lot of muzzle rise. How's yours work?
  20. I have large hands and prefer the Ergo 4045. Have used the MOE and a couple of others. Love the Ergo.
