  1. Thanks. Got the bore all cleaned. It still had residue from the factory test firing. While lubing up the bolt and upper I could see a lot of metal flakes shining in the sunlight so there is definitely some break-in to be done.
  2. I will be making my first trip to the range with my LR-308 Oracle today. For starters I plan to remove the shipping oils from the bore before firing. Also, I see Mobil 1 is the recommended lube for the bolt? If so, I can do that. I'll clean the bolt and inside the upper before lubing it up. Since this is a new rifle and I've heard DPMS has had some rough chamber issues, I figure I might have some extraction problems for awhile. In addition, I only have the stock steel mags for now but will get some Magpuls ordered. I've had DPMS 5.56 ARs before and have done their break-in procedure (clean after every round for 25 rounds) but what do you guys think? Is that worthwhile or a waste of time? I have some 150gr soft point brass from Academy though they have some steel case stuff as well. Would steel be better to break it in with since it is harder than brass and might smooth the internals faster? I could be talking out my keister there. Anything else I should consider before taking the beast out today? Thanks in advance!
  3. Thanks. This whole .308 idea happened pretty quickly for me. I was walking through Walmart and saw they had the Sportical model for $897 and it got me to thinking about an AR in .308 but I knew I wanted the forward assist. My brother (another gun freak) got to looking around on Gunbroker and found a seller that would deliver the Oracle model for less than $1k. Today will be its inaugural trip to the range and I hope it goes smooth though I expect I will have a few issues as it is a new rifle and I'll be using the factory steel mags.
  4. The son of a coworker was shot in the leg a few weeks ago during a home invasion attempt. He's ok but still has a 9mm slug lodged in the leg. Crazy times in which we're living.
  5. I might know of the guy. Is he American but living in China?
  6. Sweet rig!
  7. Thanks for your service! You might want to check out Georgia Arms for their bulk ammo.
  8. Thanks! I built that one from boxes of parts. The bikes you are referring to are Chang Jiang which has roots to the 1938 BMW R71. They can be pretty cool once a decent engine (usually from a 70s BMW) has replaced the flaky Chinese original. There's also the Ural and the Dnepr, both essentially BMW copies. Here's another of my girls. This one is a '78 R100RS.
  9. On order currently I have a Mech Tech upper in 10mm for my Glock 20. I also have some 5.56 AR uppers on order with DS Arms 'cause my brother and I are wanting to build some inexpensive ARs on those New Frontier polymer lowers.
  10. I've not really spent much time with the 5.56 AR platform though I have had 3 and currently have a Colt LE6920. As for the venture into .308, well, I didn't have a .308 and what better way to get into that caliber than with the AR platform? I mainly plan to do some semi-long range stuff with my DPMS and didn't have anything that fit that role. I have other rifles but nothing quite like this. <thumbsup>
  11. Here's the new toy sitting on my FFL's couch. Headed to the range tomorrow after I attach a cheapie scope I have sitting around. I've got new furniture ordered for it and will be looking at some other upgrades, most likely a trigger.
  12. I picked up some Monarch brass (Academy house brand) for my initial trip to the range this weekend. It's $14.99/20 but they have steel case stuff for $9.99/20 as well.
  13. Sweet Ludwig kits!! I'm a drummer as well. I need to find a pic of my Leedy & Ludwig kit (1950-1954).
  14. My other soft spot (besides firearms) is motorcycles, primarily vintage BMW bikes. I have four BMWs from 1963 to 1978 and my user ID is "flat twins" for the horizontally-opposed twin engine. Here's one of the toys-
  15. Chris, I'm in the Tulsa area. Steve
  16. Boomer who? <laughs> I'm an alum of the other one. Go Pokes!
  17. Thanks! Which part of Arkansas? I have cousins in Ft. Smith, Russellville, and Little Rock.
  18. Just joined up since I have a DPMS Oracle arriving at my FFL tomorrow. I'll be hitting the range with it this weekend, rain or shine. Looking forward to learning more about what you guys and gals are doing with\to these rifles.
