  1. Ya, the silent spring sounds nice. I'm going to pull the trigger on a JP adjustable block to do what I want. But the silent spring is just the spring right? That is how I took it. You still need the buffer weight right. If that replaces everything, i just might do it.
  2. I see. At least normal buffers are cheap. I can see if I need heavy or light.
  3. So could you give a bit more info.... Thje adjustable gas block... do you need more or less (more?) Can you run a regular gas block? What was the problem with the heavy buffer? I am going to be using a AR-10 buffer (H3) which is about the same weight.
  4. I plan to. Got any laying around. ;D
  5. Thanks... and just to be clear.... JP is on back order too. But I spoke with them and he was at least a little optimistic that they will be trickling out. If this was just a matter of buying it, it would have already been bought. This is "Plan B".... or pay $600 on Gun Broker for a regular AR-10 BCG... that would be plan C. ;D
  6. Pretty much... but it isn't like all is lost. Piecing it out will cost more. I cringe at what whole rifles were going for last year... But I have a Gissele SSA, a 20" FA match SS and a JP bolt carrier... should be a nice set up.
  7. And that is a possibility... but it is $260 for a chrome carrier. I still have no bolt and no parts. Nobody has bolts anywhere. By the time I put it together... I would probably be close to the JP. Parts I'm watching are already in that range. LMT finally opened their site back up but do not even list a .308 BCG.... but now Fultons is closed down once again. ???
  8. I talked to them and they said a regular .308 buffer would be fine. I have a AR-10 buffer... H3/tube/spring. That's the same weight as the heavy buffer. Why is it it is too heavy? I do not have a gas block and have not looked yet what I am going to get. I did see theirs. What is it that I want "adjusted"... more/less running a low mass carrier? I don't exactly have $450 to blow on a BCG... but that is where they are at at this point private, so I might as well wait and get a good one for that money.
  9. So ya.. none anywhere. I called Young Man and they said they are working on .223 and have no idea when they will get back to .308 Fulton Armory only has carriers and no way to get on a back order for a complete group. DPMS.... <laughs> So since things are going to be expensive buying private, what list should I get on for a group? JP seems nice. I have no idea how well their "low mass" carriers work... anyone? POF has no way to back order... just says no longer available. So I do not know if that means now... or forever. Any others to consider? Thanks.
  10. New here. Never had an AR, and no real desire for a 15. Always wanted a .308. I don't plan on running through 10s of thousands of rounds. I do not hunt. But if the SHTF, I figure a .308 semi would be a good one to have. Same reason for the .45APC. Looked at the other platforms, and would not mind a M1A, but after all was said and done, availability/price/quality in the AR platform can't really be beat. It was always really far down on the list.... but it just got moved up to #1. So here I am.
  11. Cool. I guess it is what it is right? Thanks for all the help.
  12. Thanks. It was looking like that was going to be the call I place tomorrow. So it seems BCG are hard to come by. I assume they work fine with DPMS/Fulton uppers as the info on this site says. Are they pretty good about production, or are they always behind. Obviously, right now everyone is cleaned out... but I do not know how the .308 market was to begin with. I have just always wanted one and decided I better get off the pot. what is my best best for a Bolt.... JP, get a Fulton carrier and wait for any bolt?
  13. .308 DPMS, striped. Armalite buffer assembly, DPMS LPK. I understand lowers are different, but I thought Armalite uppers fit DPMS lowers. And RRAs uppers do not. Armalite does not have anything anyway. It's down to waiting on back ordered DPMS stuff. I talked to DPMS the other day and they are telling everyone 12 months at this point.
  14. DPMS lower that is complete at this point. Not in my hand, but just waiting on BG check. So going from there. But everything is picked over and nobody has anything complete or together... everything is pieces parts trying to mix and match.
  15. OK, thanks a bunch guys... I see what you are getting at. I have seen plenty of folks that will take your bolt and test. I think I have narrowed it down that I'm getting a Fulton barrel (before you guys mentioned this). They have carriers, but no bolts. It would probably be wise just to order a barrel and bolt and just wait for it to come in when ever that will be. Fulton still has some parts, but no telling when they will have more. I am willing to wait for a whole Armalite upper... but they have NOTHING on their site, so no clue how long that will take. I'm not in any particular hurry, but obviously I would like to shoot it this Summer. I might have a line on a BCG... we'll see. If that happened then I could send it to Fulton for a barrel. Does that sound right?
  16. Ya, you will need to slow that down for the AR impaired.... :) I saw Shilen has matched barrel and bolts for .223, but not .308. But then just buying "parts"... I do not see any other "matched" parts. And no "specs" to match anything to head space wise. Of course, these days there is no parts at all, but between carriers, bolts, and barrels, nothing is matched. Most people seem to have not problem mixing and matching, obviously with what fits. So how do I go about getting parts to assemble?
  17. So I "get" what head space is, but don't understand what you do about it. I'm building my first AR, and trying to find parts. But it seems to me... you just assemble your parts, and then check go-no go. If it's no go then you toss those in the trash and try another one. How do you go about buying parts to put together, and how do you get the correct head space with all these parts? How do you change different barrels or buy new bolts in the future? Thanks.
  18. Me too. I need one... in line.
