  1. I got my barrel from Fulton, all they had left was 1:12... which I am perfectly fine with since I'm not shooting heavy stuff. That's good to 175 gr. Here is the really frustrating thing... everthing you are looking at right now MAY, or MAY NOT be up to date. Everything Fulton Armory has is up to date. you can flat out forget getting anything from DPMS themselves. Last I talked to them, they were just telling everyone a year wait.... which basically means they have no idea when you will ever see anything. Fulton won't let you back order. WYSIWYG. Going to a barrel maker obviously you can order anything you want and you get it when they say. Krieger, Lilias, Noveseke? When you look at other vendor sites... it's hit and miss if their inventory is actually up to date. The vast majority of everything you see these days is "Out of stock". If it says it's in stock, call first. I thought this was due to the "recent" scare, but asking around here things were scarce every since the election. .308 availability isn't even close to .223, even if it is the next popular caliber. You are coming to the party really late if you have any intention of having a rifle soon for less than double going rate. Since you have time, best to do your research, make your orders, hop on some waiting lists, and have a rifle at some point.
  2. That's pretty darn interesting. However, I'm sure there has been plenty of case law since to define that further. We are just getting side tracked on how far you can go in a completely false case of lawful police action to stop, detain, or arrest you. I do not know the exact law in that case and I was not arguing that point. Even in mistaken identity, the police have the right to stop you, if the circumstances warrant, they have the rigth to detain you... as long as they are following proper prcedure and so on. They would have to go down the line... we got a tip... fitting description... we atttempted a stop... suspect refused... we deployed measures... suspect drew a gun... we fired. I can't even begin to understand the justification for the shooting of a white guy... there is none. And if that was you, and you drew your weapon to defend yourself... when all the smoke settled... you MAY not be charged with a crime... but you most probably would be dead... and we would not be chatting right now. Do you want to be alive, or right? ;D
  3. Well there is the first indisputable fact of the thread. <lmao>
  4. Then explain it to me. what did the SCOTUS rule on. I said the police ID themselves, and start shooting... you ASSUMED, it was an unjustified shooting... I meant they had justified reasons to start shooting. Even Ray Charles can see that a cop shooting at you for no reason is against the law. I did not think I needed to say that. :D
  5. And ya, I did not mean to imply anything towards RRA, or Armalite. I considered ordering a RRA because I could get it how I wanted... but I went down the build it rabbit hole instead and here I am. I certainly would not have anyproblem having a AR-10 either, just not he route I went. Scrambling for parts these days, the majority is DPMS pattern stuff. And this is all the major components... recievers/mags, BCGs, and barrels and how they fit together. All the minor stuff can be worked out.
  6. I think you are reading a little too much into this. It always starts with... suspect fitting discription. You, have never done anything wrong... but for some reason... you are just sitting at a convienient store, 4 cop cars roll up and box you in, they order you to put your hands up and exit the vehicle.... Again... going out on a limb here... my guess is that you would put your hands up and exit the vehicle and see WTF they are talking about. There are rules governing every type of police contact with civilians and what they can and can't do at every level when it comes to your civil rights. That is not what I am talking about. In this case, the police were wrong by firing on citizens looking for someone else... that is a law suit. That is officers fired, a big pay day and an appology from the Police Chief. You returning fire because "you have not done anything"... that is possible charges against officers, and a big pay day for your family... but you, you will be dead. Shooting at cops tends to get you there in a hurry. Just sayin' Not condoning their actions, just stating reality.
  7. you have a very nice upper and lower... you will not be returning anything. :) So I did not know the platform either. There was a DPMS lower local so I got it. Some friends have Rock River Arms and was sort of pushing them. Soooo, with building, DPMS pattern is most certainly where you want to be. The overwhelming pattern for building and the vast majority of parts. Armalite is a big company, lot's of rifles, lot of parts, not as much as DPMS. And there is some compatability between Armalite and DPMS stuff on some parts. I'm not saying Armalite isn't "as good" as DPMS, they have been doing the AR-10 longer than anyone else... just talking parts availability for builders. Just my limited opinion. RRA... people may have LAR-308s, but nobody "builds" RRA. Nothing major crosses over for pretty much anything. If you go with JP low mass bolt and spring/buffer, then get their adjustable block because you do not need as much gas. Unless you have plans to supress, or expect to do a lot of hand loading and special stuff, you do not need an adjustable block. I am curious how a JP tuned rifle feels with all their parts, but that was not going to work for me right now. I like all the Troy stuff.
  8. My skin is plenty thick. Don't sweat it friend. We do not have to get all litteral here. I do not need to say anything about good cops, or bad ones. When officers roll up on you, when they say police freeze, when they have you at gun point, or are executing a warrant... do you A.) sit there and determine whether you are going to comply, B.) argue your case, C.) return fire, or D.) none of the above??? Seriously. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you would follow lawful orders by a police officer. That's what 99% of reasonable law abiding people would do. The original post commented that we (civilians) need to be armed to protect ourselves from the police. You can argue the need to fight tyrany all you want, and we can debate how close we are to it, or if we are alrerady past it.... but if you want to "arm yourself" to defend yourself against police officers doing their job.... ya, let me know how that turns out for you.... if you live through it.
  9. Not that it sits well with me, but when officers identify themselves and point guns or start shooting... there is no court in the country that will recognise you "right to self defense". You are just in a stand off, or shoot out with the police. I understand everyone likes to get all worked up these days about civil war and abuse of power and all... I'm just saying... start returning fire on police and see how that works out for ya. There's points to debate.... then there is the real world. And this douche bag can say all he wants about that abuse of power, his civil rights, or how he has been wronged.... but he lost his argument when he committed first degree murder.
  10. Here is my limited knowledge from just finishing mine. Others will be along and you will get all the help you need. DPMS pattern needs to stay DPMS pattern. So do not mix and match Bolt, carrier, or barrels. They do not need to be from the same manufacturer, but they do need to stay DPMS compatible. And I thought Noveseke was "Armalite", but don't quote me on that. BCG are going to be the hardest part to get. At least they are now. You will pay double, or sit on a waiting list. If a waiting list is good, you will be on a couple. I spoke with JP a couple of times. They were pretty confident that limited numbers of retail parts were going to start making it out. Everyone right now is dedicating all their stuff to rifles out the door. I do know someone recently on another board got his BCG sent out and he ordered in mid December. Call anyone else and all you will get is a big laugh. I guess POF got some out and SI defense as well. Those are pricey as well. You can use a Armalite BCG, but you can't mix and match bolts and carriers Armalite/DPMS. My limited understanding on head space is .308 should all be checked because nothing is "mil spec". Most manufactureres I spoke with said everything is usually fine, but it should always be checked. If you get a maufacturer to do both, then you can have them do it. Fulton Armory will do it if you send them your bolt, but with all that is going on, I did not try to coordinate that. I have not checked mine. I need to find somone local to put my mind at ease. Pieces parts are pretty easy. You just usually have to hunt around and get from different places. That means more shipping. So getting on waiting lists now for stuff is not a bad idea. Magazines are going to cost you and there is no getting around that, and there are none available. Seems right now anyone that gets them from a store just throws them up on line for double or triple. I managed to get 4 local, and I am on back order for 5. Who knows if I will ever see them. They are everywhere on line. There is no shortage, you will just pay double at least... $60
  11. Sure, you may be mistaken as somone else by the police, but what you are suggesting is to return fire to kill them before they kill you. The only thing that line of thought holds for you is a body bag garanteed. You do not kill cops in exchange and then go clear it up in court as a big misunderstanding. You obey lawful orders and surender.
  12. I would have to measure from shoulder to flange and see if it is close. It did bring up another question though... what is proper gas regulation? My last shooting put all my brass in the same spot... about 3-4 feet to the side, and 3-4 feet back. If fell on concrete so I do not know if it bounced to where they all ended up. But the article talks of enough gas to cycle, without excessive ejection force. So what is excessive ejection force or over gassed?
  13. ^^^I responded to you... it's a 11/16"
  14. So is there a measurement of how far the gas tube is supposed to be in the receiver? I always wondered especially since reading about leaving room like an end cap was there. I mean we are only talking a 1/16". Is there a tolerance to where the gas tube should be and where there gas key on the carrier should sit? I assume there is.
  15. Well, what ever he was before, now he is a 1st degree murderer. He deserves what he gets. I'm just curious if he goes out in a hail of bullets, or he wants to inflict damage and then surrender. He knows he will get to plead his case in the media for the next 4 years.... if he actually wants to plead his case. He seems like he really likes to argue and is quite full of himself.
  16. What a retarded piece of crap. Seriously??? He thinks a deranged crack head celebrity is "awesome". Zero credibility there.
  17. IF... in the future... I am still allowed to build a rifle, I would probably just build a .223 carbine. Since my future ability to have a .308 was in question, I bought a lower to build later, and here I am with a rifle. ;D So ya, I'm definitely a gear whore, but another .308 rifle is unlikely. ;D
  18. And I'm not freaking over a little gas leakage either. Obviously, at fist it was about the FTF... but we know it was under lubed. I like the minimal PRI block, and I do not think I am going to put sights on. Actually, I think down the road I will build a light CQ carbine upper instead. If I stop dorking with the gas block, I'm sure it will seal up better. Now that I know it is broke in, and functioning well, I'll just have to figure out how to run it normally and see how it does. I was borrowing scopes, and they were out of range/adjustment. Trying to get it on paper and figured out was a hassle. Can't wait to get my own scope and get it sighted in. Start pushing lead out to 600 yards at the new range!
  19. Heres the pics... [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0066_zps5534c5a1.jpg [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0067_zps23c6365f.jpg [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0069_zpsbb21285a.jpg [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0070_zpse8aaea2c.jpg And I did not notice any oil when I took the old block off. I don't think he used any. I put a thin coat on when I was trying to fit it. I cleaned it all up though and didn't use any oil on the new block. TIP: In case you didn't know, a SOS pad, greenie meanie... is all you need to brush stainless steel. I refinish my watch all the time. Works just as good on a barrel. Had some scratches from all this... brand new shinny now.
  20. Well you are wrong... it's more like 11/16" ;D I have a rifle length barrel and gas tube. Standard DPMS barrel nut and freefloat tube. IDK <dontknow>
  21. Ya, building out is always going to be more expensive, you just get what you want. And right now, even more expensive. I didn't want a Springfield M1 because I thought they were too expensive... I have twice that now with accessories, and some mags. And not a lot of high end stuff... just a Giessele SSA and Fulton Match barrel... but the BCG cost me nearly $600. And ya, I still need glass. And no, I'm not spending $1500. No.... really. A Nikon 308 is the limit, or a similar Vortex. I do love the heavy beast though. ;D
  22. I got mine from Fulton armory. What they have is up to date. Their site is up now. They go down all the time to catch up... go order. http://www.fulton-armory.com/FAR-308-Upper-Parts.aspx
  23. Yaaaa... I need to get my good name back, and I think 1st degree murder is just the way to do it. I don't give a poop what he said in his rant, you just lost me. Sad thing is is that I could see what he said as true. I mean it's plausible... but where he started, and where he ended... no, that guy has a screw loose. But hey, he writes excellent reports, so he must be telling the truth. :cookoo:
  24. 200 rounds through it, I'm going to call it broke in. I'll get some pis of the fouling tomorrow. More than likely it is sealed. I'll get it all cleaned up... then I have to wait to get a scope. At this point, not sure if I'll get the Nikon 308, or the Vortex HS from Midway.
