  1. That's damn sexy.
  2. Ya, now I see why they are so popular. Nice guard, light, some added features, and reasonable price. Hard to beat that.
  3. Ya, the green is actually pretty cool and not too blingy. I have wanted to do my safe /fire too. Not much into color fill in general... but that looks really good.
  4. Got out to the range today... I'm sold. It's not a nuclear weapon, but ya, easy to shoot, more power, very accurate. The ARP barrel seems to be better than the match on my 308. But it's still early. After I finally got it on paper, it was running very well. I ran a box of Hornady SST and it did great. Got on some steel at 500 yards... it was a good day. Had to run a couple mags of 5.56 after... ya, BB gun. I'm really pleased with the JP silent capture spring. I did ask them what others were running... more weight or different spring. They said run the standard it's fine. I have to agree. Bras was 3:30-4. shot great.
  5. Allllrighty.... So I got my upper. Went with Blackstone Arms. They had the parts I wanted. But Eric was very very good to deal with. Communications were great. Fast work, super easy. I would have no problem using him again. Polished chamber, squared receiver, GTG. I got a ARP 16" SOCOM barrel, enhanced bolt, and the Vortex 2 port comp. Went on a Aero receiver and MI 12" keymod guard. I like the MI guard. I like the BCM too, but the MI feels great and has some good features. The upper fit pretty tight on my Mega lower. Just a minor correction and it's a great fit now. Eric offered great service, but no need for that. GTG now. I'm pretty sure I built a 6.8 and I have a BCM 5.56 to fart around with. :)) Put my PA 1-6 on it. Swap over my BCM ambi handle. Got some AE and Hornady 120 gr SST to try out Sunday. Can't wait to take it out.
  6. Ya, he doesn't do that anymore. Ironworks is out of the barrel I want. Blackstone has what I want. I could put something together my self, but it's cheaper for me if I have limited options. :)
  7. Well, going with Blackstone. Same barrel and bolt. Hopefully get it ordered tomorrow.
  8. JP says people run the standard buffer. I can change weights if I want, but a spring change is unnecessary. I'll probably just run what I have.
  9. Fair enough. I'll run it and see how it is. I'll drop a line to JP and see what setup they know about.
  10. Cool, thanks. I might get it if he has more. Says he's out. So would an adjustable gas block be useful? I realise I can use a normal buffer or an H2. But I was thinking I could also turn the gas down a tad. I don't hand load so I usually don't bother with adjustables.
  11. So do you like the Vortex? Is it a good compromise? I was just going to get their flash hider. Ordered barrel and bolt.
  12. Ya, flash hider is about it.
  13. When I was thinking of selling my 308,it seemed like 6.8 ammo was more. I decided on 5.56. But on a AR platform, the 6.8 is nice. 223 for plinking. 6.8 for fun. That's kind of where I'm at. I'll never hunt anything that needs 308. I wouldn't mind hunting some hogs though. Take it on trips to the mountains. I'll be G2G to 300 easy. So far I'm liking ARP. I had a JP bolt in my 308. I know they are not necessary. But with 6.8 opening up the face, seems like good insurance going with an enhanced one. I'm thinking SOCOM profile 16, keymod, my 1-6, and another spring for plug and play. I'll probably just use the CH I have now, but probably another carrier. Any particular break to go with? Flash hider is good enough. I don't need a comp. I got a BCM Mod 0 on my upper. Seemed reasonable for what I want. What is a good GP flash/break?
  14. I'm loving my AR15.i definitely want a 6.8 now. Zeroed a 1-6 today so I already have the scope. :)
  15. Well finally... I've looked before, not exactly easy info to find. By replacing the steel weights in the JP spring with the tungsten ones, it functions as a H2. It doesn't say I need to change a spring for it. I don't really want to change stuff out. Might have to get another one.
  16. :) Nice. Anything next to 5.56 is a niche cartridge, but I like what 6.8 has going for it.
  17. I need to ask JP how their capture spring is for 6.8. I would like to know what weight their buffer is. I've seen AR, but didn't see complete uppers. Seems like it's around $800 depending. I would like plug and play, but if I have to swap a couple things it's not that big of deal. Are stronger or enhanced bolts a good idea since the face has to be enlarged?
  18. I've seen Bison, but don't know much about them. RRA, Yankee Hill, even Stag. Who's putting together a good upper. Looking at getting one. And what about enhanced bolts? I heard there was a guy here that loves 6.8. :)
  19. Thanks. OK, I can buy that. I do understand that it isn't a big problem that needs a fix, but it is nice. No different than any recoil spring on my pistols. My other rifle was tuned pretty good, and it wasn't that bad. The Bushy probably was bone stock and who knows what lube, but it was loud.
  20. The 308 was super cool, but that was just plain fun. That was at 50 yds after I got the sights dialed in at 25. I'll zero for 50. I've always had a scope, and it didn't dawn on me till I got to the range that I have no glass. So I had to take a few shots at the aimpoint target and then dork around till I could check my shots. 240 flawless rounds. As it should be. I had to break in the LR308, then I had a weak extractor spring that led me on a wild goose chase. Learned a lot, but took a while till I considered it reliable. Love the PRO. Not much experience, but I'm glad I got a 2 MOA dot. Plenty of dot, but it does take up space at long distance. Yes I know it isn't for precision work. But ya, tiny dot, bullet hits dot. Sweet. Plenty bright in direct sunlight. It was easy to get sighted in. Of course now my flip ups co-witness perfect. Just didn't know which one to move before. So the JP silent capture spring... uhhh, ya.... it's silent. As in... silent. Through the rifle, all you hear is a tiny ping from the bolt slamming home. The only way you know you just fired the last round is that you don't hear the tiny ping. Smooth as glass. I'm not saying it's a huge problem that needed fixing... but damn, it's smooth. I asked if I could shoot a couple rounds out of a guys Bushmaster just for comparison. SPROINGGGG! Ya, cheese grater. The only thing stopping everyone from having one is the price. If it was say twice the price of a regular spring and buffer, everyone would run them. But at 3x, it's a bitter pill to swallow. But I'm sold. Perfect addition to this build. The key mod ran plenty cool. It's not like I got the barrel glowing, but the guard was nice. Mostly cheap Tulammo. Couple mags of PMC to break it in. Ran it wetter than normal, but nothing like I had to do for my 308. Not a bobble. Brass was at 4 o'clock about 10 feet away in a little pile all day. In case it isn't obvious... I REALLY love this rifle. The midlength is a BB gun compared to what I had. I think I need to make a 6.8 happen. I love my lower. No point in another one right now. Just another upper. Hopefully I get my 1-6 this week.
  21. I got my parts from Mega today and got that finished. Over all, I'm really happy with the full ambi build. I switched to HK for the same reason. Now all my stuff is full ambi. Don't really care about the "full" part, just like being able to use a gun the way it was intended for right handers. Over all... the bolt catch for me is in easy reach of my trigger finger. The bolt release is a bit of a reach. I have to shift my grip to get there. Now the ambi bolt release for right handers... it's perfect. Right next to the mag release in easy reach of trigger finger. Easy for me to get to if my right hand was on the front of the lower. The Troy ambi mag release is very nice. Within easy reach of trigger finger. Just not as close as the standard on the other side for righties. Operates very easy. Of course the safety is the same for both. Can't wait to hit the range tomorrow.
  22. Yes, true. I've been calling it by its name. When I put it together I saw how it works and only releases the bolt. That's the important part for ambi.
  23. I am liking the full ambi build. There was a bit of play between the receivers, but the tension screw took care of that. Can't wait to go break it in.
  24. I'll have to wait for the parts from Mega to install the ambi bolt catch. I am so glad I got the Troy ambi mag release. It is perfect for me. The JP spring cycles very smooth. Of course we'll have to see when I actually shoot it. I think I'm in love...
  25. Que the Angels..... I could not leave well enough alone. Along with the Aimpoint Pro, I picked up a Primary Arms 1-6 and QD mount for a good price. The plan is to sell more stuff and build a 6.8 upper at least.... :)
