  1. The usual. 1 General Deer (I use this for Muleys) 1 Any Whitetail tag 1 Speed Goat tag (My father also put in, so he will be flying out to hunt with the boys and I) 1 General Elk 1 Reduced Cow/Calf for Area 10 (I don't live near the Snowy Range, but my friends do, and we do elk camp two weeks a year there out of tradition). I may buy a turkey tag soon, and as usual, preference points for moose and sheep.
  2. I want to replace my heavy/useless (as far as mounting options go) DPMS FF handguard with a system I can mount a sling adapter, bipod, and maybe NV on in the future. This is going on a Classic 20, with a low profile gas block. The Troy is tempting, because they come from the factory in FDE (not a show stopper since I can cerakote the handguard). I like the SS Series from Midwest Industries (plus the price), and have seen them mounted on DPMS rifles, but they are only listed for Armalite on their website. I do not want a FF Rail (quad rail), but for the right price, especially in FDE, I could be swayed. I would like to stay under $250. What am I missing here? Are there any boutique manufacturers I have not heard of?
  3. Everyone that has ever served has "Hollywood" pictures where they cheese it up for the cameras. Let's see them. I was pissed because I had just done another Land Nav course in preparation for PLDC. Interesting note, my effective Date of Rank for Sergeant is 9-11-2001....my ceremony was delayed a few days.
  4. Kind eyes, a guitar player, a bird dog lover....what is there not to like? Hahahaha! Glad to meet you, kind of, Magwa. Those look good on your wall.
  5. I shoot long range competitively, I am a Freemason, I am an avid outdoorsman (hunting, trapping, camping, fishing, etc.), I am also a cowboy for my in-law's ranch when I am not Coal Mining. I also like railroad stuff...I spent 3 years as a Conductor/Engineer for the Union Pacific after I got out of the Army.
  6. The cheapest scope I would go with for "tactical" applications is an SWFA Super Sniper. I have one in 10x, and they are known as the standard in beginner's tactical scopes. After that I would go Weaver Tactical Series or Vortex, then up toNIghtforce, S&B, USO, Hensholdt. You do get what you pay for. There is a reason the better $300 tactical scope is fixed power.
  7. Nice..where did you get the moose? I still have about 5 years of preference points before I can get a tag. My grandfather-in-law has a 61" bull he took in Alaska in 2005. Beautiful animals.
  8. They wouldn't let me bring home thigh bones or teeth, so I have to stick with antlers and horns on the wall to justify my manhood. ;)
  9. Sage advice. Hahahah! I will not go hunting without one. I want a wolf rug sooooooooo bad. They have been spotted throughout the state, so I may happen across one.
  10. As will I...I am mulling over whether to get a wolf tag or not.
  11. Oh, no...no offense taken at all, I was just expressing my point of view. I grew up on wild game, and it is a treat to put one in a freezer...especially an elk (almost a half beef) or a tasty whitetail. We just have different goals, and I have been a meat hunter before, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. However, having married into a cattle family, I do not really "need" the meat anymore, and really enjoy the pursuit of trophy animals. I also prefer not to eat the coyotes, prairie dogs, porcupines or any of that others stuff we shoot. Here's to a wonderful 2013 season for all of us. ;D
  12. Yes, they seem to be great people on the phone. I will check that out today, and the action is not binding since I took JB and polished the contact area. The G2S.
  13. I use "Shooter", and although not free, my opinion is that it is the best for any phone. You can also use your Kestrel as an input on certain devices with this app, and you can get down to the nit-picky stuff like Coriolis Effect, Bramoetric Pressure (automatically derived from your GPS location, or entered manually). Really good app.
  14. Thanks! I will post a full report once it is functioning 100%. I can feel it breaking in, so I believe the buffer wheel will do it.
  15. Farewell brother, you were a giant among men, and lived a life that would make most men tremble. Prayers out to his family and friends.
