My M1A is a SA "loaded" with the Syn. stock, and has had nothing done to it other that adding a scope. My biggest dislike is the 3 + Lb. 2nd stage trigger pull. My AR-10 has a sweet trigger.Since all of my rifle shooting is off a bench that M1A trigger is a bit anoying, espically after shooting my swap Bbl. Savage with it's 9 oz. trigger. Our club just added a 300 yd. range so that will tell if it goes or stays

NJ, Thanks for the insite on the 173's, I'll load some and test in both an M1A & an AR-10. If they don't show me much, they might become "sweetener" added to selling the M1A.

Title saye it all, just interested in finding out what is your favorite powder to use with the 168 & 175 BTHP as well as the 173 M118 FMJBT.

Jgun, lots of loading info here for loading for the M1A /M14 http://m14forum.com/. My SAI M1A prefers H 4895 to IMR 4064 when duplicating M118 loads

# 1. rule. cast bullets must be a tight fit in the weapons throat, nor bore but throat. With weapons like M1A, M1, AK's ect. that you cannot easly slug the rifles throat go 3 to 4 thousandts over bore ID, ie, 30 Cal. go .310-.312, for the AK / SKS .313-.314. Unless you can buy cast bullets sized larger than the usual .309 you are just going to make noise, might be good for letting children & grand children shoot at close ranges, but nothing more Photo shows a test group out of an M1A shot at 100 yds using a 200 gn. cast bullet sized .311 http://castboolits.gunloads.com/index.php look at the MILITARY RIFLES forum

I suggest you "nay sayers" visit the "cast boolits".com forum. There is a "sticky" on cast in an M1A in the military weapons section, now the growing trend is cast in 223 AR's. It's not brain sugery , just taylor the size of the bullet, and the alloy to the powder charge [pressure] to the specific weapon. I'm getting 1.5" 8 shot groups at 100 yds with my M1A. {always two fliers out of 10 shot groups] AND have test loads ready for my AR-10T

Thanks, one and all, I guess I'm infected with the Mo'power, Mo'Power bug, having used scopes bumped to 18-40 X scopes on my two contenders I use in pistol silhouette standing events.

I'm looking for thougths on a LR scope since my club in adding a 300 Yd. range. What I've found that is in my $$$ limit are; Vortex Viper 6.5 x 20 x 50 Millett LRS 6 x 25 x 56 with a 35 MM tube Sishtron 36 X 42 MM w/ 1" tube Weaver 36 x 40 MM w/ 1" tube

I use FLA. cause I'm "old Corps" , and I use 24 Hr. time and watch in wonderment when someone asks for time and I reply 14:33. I've been shooting mainly LR pistols, XP's T/C's, and a few "wheel guns" I'm about to take delivery on an Armalite AR-10T and figured I'd join to see "what is what" with the 308 AR's.
